Nice hotel very central, have stayed here a couple of times before good value for money, only problem we had this weekend the breakfast buffet had rang out and lots of people were waiting for food to come out of the kitchen, due to the restaurant staff probably not keeping the kitchen informed? On the whole though this is a good comfortable hotel .

Location for the princess theatre was really good. Staff very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was warm and clean. Sadly the window wasn't double glazed so I could hear traffic and chatter as I was on the road side of the building.

Very dated needs a major freshening up. Disappointing.

Very run down property. Bed uncomfortable and no option to have kingsize bed. Had to clean the bath before using to remove the scumline. Brick wall views out both windows . Asked to move rooms but the one offered was even worse and was only one night. Bonus was it vry close to princess theatre .

Our room was clean and tidy, decor a little dated though. More beds than we thought, TV, kettle etc in there.
Staff were very friendly, approachable and helpful.
Hotel is right in the heart of Torquay.
Only fault lift is slow ha ha too lazy for stairs.

The staff all very friendly.
The hotel itself is a little tired looking, but clean and reasonably comfortable.
Breakfast was reasonable.

Very outdated. Not very clean. Definitely needs some work doing to whole hotel. It’s very much a hotel populated by the elderly. Entertainment every night we were there which was nice. Breakfast was poor. Staff were lovely.

duvet and pillows had large stains on them - need replacing, should have mentioned it to reception when leaving but was chatting and forgot, did not harm our stay, as covers were immaculately clean

The only good thing about this hotel was the location right on the sea front which was close to an event we were attending and the reason we chose this. Everything other than that, was poor. The hotel is dated, but more than that, is grubby and tired. The floors are uneven, the carpets are covered in stains, there is an overall musty smell in the corridors and rooms and the bed was awful! The mattress was a few inches lower on one side than the other. With no springs left in one side. We were on 4th floor and there is no air con or ventilation in the rooms. The window only opens slightly and is covered in mould. The temperature in the room was horrific. A small fan was provided but was in poor condition so rattled all night long but it was a choice between this and melting! Seeing as we weren’t getting any sleep on the old mattress anyway, we chose the rattle of the fan! The staff weren’t too bothered in general. Our welcome at check in was “oh you can’t stay here with tattoos on your arms! Haha only joking” followed by …. “Room 421. Breakfast until 9:30. Enjoy!”
Overall not the best experience at all.

Hotel is lovely, Staff are friendly and location was great, a bit disappointing that the car park is at a local Ncp discounted at £6 was not available even though we arrived early. We had to pay full price for an overnight stay at £10 to local ncp but not bad for 24hrs.. will be happy to stay again at hotel if rates are reasonable, Torquay is a great night without city prices

It’s a great hotel in a location near everywhere. Sad we won’t be able to book any more as it’s gone to coach only.

The hotel and room it’s self were out dated, but I guess that’s what you get for £55 a night.
There was no AC that i could see so I had to open the window. As soon as it was opened in walked a seagull and jumped from the window on to the bed where I was sleeping. After about 2 mins we managed to get him to leave.
Now I tried to block the window up with some items to allow air through but to deter the seagulls trying to enter. I kinda worked but gulls are cleaver

We arrived early for checkin and asked if we could leave our bag which was no problem. Only stayed one night but found it very good value, nice room with a sea view, comfortable bed and a good breakfast in the morning. Cant really ask for more. Thank you, we will be back!

We've stayed at The Torbay many times before and has been our go to hotel in Torquay. I think it's been sold to a coach company since I booked. It's nice to see some of the familiar people still working there.
The good points:
The location is perfect. Right by the marina, bars and shops. It's 4 minutes walk from the Princes Theatre.
The bad points :
There is only one temperamental lift.
The only egg choice at breakfast is scrambled. It was quite liquid. There used to be fried eggs too.
The rooms are hot, although there was a fan.
The rooms at the front can be noisy throughout the night from street revellers.
We booked a room with beach view. Sadly our view was mainly trees.
Our bed wasn't very comfortable. I asked on 2nd day for a mattress topper or to move room. They popped on a mattress topper. It was a bit better, but the mattress didn't have any structure.
We stayed in room 424. If you are over 5ft 3 refuse this room. The bathroom is rediculously small and badly planned. Whilst trying to use the toilet you have the toilet roll holder just about sticking in you and the heated towel rail in the way of your knee.
The shower has no power. It's also quite hard to set the temperature of the water.
I'm not sure if it will be available to book in the future, but it may be they are keeping the best rooms for their coach guests. We've had lovely rooms before.
Will be more specific when booking in future.
Can't seem to get photos to attach.

Our booking was not what we booked . This is after a phone call and an email . Flooring throughout the hotel so noisy everywhere. Walls thin as could hear snoring , mattress older and worn more than me , breakfast just dreadful. Staff good cleanliness good position good
8.0 / 10.0
An older character property in a very convenient position overlooking sea. Good value for money, but some attention needed to old rotting window frames. Noisy room overlooking road, and our room was not serviced after our first night of two. Entertainment in evening an unexpected bonus. Breakast buffet fine. No parking but reduced rate available at nearby multistorey by purchasing a pass. Major roadworks causing traffic jam outside hotel making difficult to drop guests off for check-in. Generally a satisfactory stay for our purpose of going to Princess Theatre.

Lovely big room with sea views
