My brother and I stayed at the Dorint as our base to tour Napoleonic battlefields in Jena, Auerstadt and Lutzen. Jena is a pretty and lovely town with many restaurant choices. Great food, great hiking and friendly people.

I was disappointed that this hotel lists in its amenities that it is air conditioned. It is not. I will say that the staff was accommodating. When we checked in, we were given a room in a very odd location of the hotel—you must take one lift to get to the second lobby, from there you take a second lift to get to floors 4 and above. We were given a room on fourth floor, we had difficulty finding our room—we had to go through a service door to a small lower entrance that appeared in between floors three and four in a very dark and depressing hallway. The hotel staff did allow us to change rooms. When I asked about how the A/C works in the room, the staff did admit that it wasn’t A/C exactly and attempted to describe what it was exactly. It just air circulation vents that circulate air into the rooms from interior, non-air conditioned common space. Olathe room was clean and comfortable—however having to take the elevators each day I noticed how the outside and inside stainless steel doors and interior walls were filthy! After two full days of seeing the same filth (one of the lifts had something spilled all over), I uncomfortably mentioned it to the hotel staff as nicely as I could, indicating that I’d want to know if I were the manager of the property. The person I spoke with to thanked me and said yes, not acceptable, and immediately called housekeeping. THE ELEVATORS (outside/inside/buttons) WERE NEVER TOUCHED ALL FOUR DAYS WE WERE THERE. I have pictures too.

We got a downgrade from Junior Suite to normal room without notice and were expected to pay full price for suite. After complaining we were offered a refund of 35 Euros, even though the difference was 70.

Good location and quiet despite in the central city

This used to be Steigenberger Esplanade and they were top notch in all areas which is why I booked my stay here again for the umpteenth time. We stayed for 2 nights in a beautiful suite overlooking the city center of Jena on the 7th floor. The restaurant staff, which was still Steigenberger staff, is amazing, attentive, polite, and kind. However, the new staff needs training on customer service.The first night we were there the hotel had a fire drill (necessary i get it.) However, there was not one Dorint employee anywhere to tell us where to go. I was there with my mom who is 86 who just had hip replacement surgery. In the amount of time that it took my mom and i to descend the seven flights of stairs, trying to find our way out if there had been a real fire, we would never had made it out. Still no Dorint employee in sight! I must mention that there was a whole family that joined us on our journey to find the escape route so it wasn't just my mom and I that were having these issues. When we finally saw a Dorint employee, he told us we needed to climb all the stairs back up to the seventh floor although the elevators were functioning again! (We took the elevator.) The next morning we had to get up in time for the breakfast buffet. There was no apology for the terrible nights rest. The room was never cleaned although we requested it be cleaned. When we talked to the front desk about this he couldn't have cared less. Nothing was done by Dorint except collect payment.
