About this apartment rental

The incredible, architecturally designed Stilt House opened in August 2022 and is our most ambitious project to date. Perched on 57 stilts above the woodland floor with a unique elliptical excision, we are so excited to share this project with our new guests.

Internally clad in a pine plywood finish, stained in forest green and with floor to ceiling windows, you have a sense of being wholly enveloped by the surrounding woodland.

The experience within the space is a calming journey of moving from dimly lit to wide open vistas. The elliptical curve invites you to discover what awaits around the corner. Each window with a different aspect, inviting light into the space at different times of the day.

A stay in the Stilt House will soothe the senses of your soul and bring you back to nature. Oh, there's a wood fired Swedish hot tub hidden in the woods, just for your own use!

Being completely isolated in the woods, need not come without the simple luxuries that we offer at all of our Fernwood stays. At 45 square metres, it feels even bigger, and would rival a honeymoon suite in size and experience.

The Stilt House has the same mattress as those used in the Merrion Hotel Dublin whilst furniture has either been locally handmade or sourced from design houses in Scandinavia. There is a Bang and Olufsen portable speaker, which can be brought outside whilst you relax under the birch canopy in the wood-fired hot tub.

The fully equipped kitchenette comes with a microwave oven combi, an induction hob and fridge with freezer compartment. As always, there is tea & coffee along with other breakfast items to get you started.

The bathroom is huge, with a fabulous rain shower and awesome window overlooking the native Irish woodland.

In keeping with our minimal impact ethos at Fernwood, the building is A-rated and features triple glazed windows and an air to water heat pump.

At end of a country road and at the beginning of the Connemara Greenway, Fernwood is a true oasis with the benefit of being 2 minutes from Clifden town.

Our organic farm is on a 140 acre private estate comprising of native woodland and bog, on the shores of the Salt Lake. Walk out your front door to explore, in complete solitude, our 2km of woodland paths, the wonders of the Connemara bogland or relax in our newly constructed lakeside sauna house with plunge pool.

You can chose to stay in our new refurbished Studio conversion which is finished to the highest spec with underfloor heating, wood burning stove, sheepskin rugs and feather down duvets

For the ultimate experience chose our luxury treehouse dome/tent or better again a Stilt House Suite with private wood-fired Swedish Hot Tub.

Everything! From the eggs from coop for breakfast to the sauna in the evening, every aspect of the stay was incredible. Fernwood made for the perfect location to breathe, relax and re-connect with nature.

Magical location in the middle of the trees, great for listening to the birds in the mornings and evenings. The floor to ceiling windows help you take in the unique surroudings and the house is very well thought out - spacious and minimal design yet equipped with everything you would need including nice books to while away the hours. The wood fired hot tub was a really welcome addition, as well as the breathtaking sauna by the lake! Owners were friendly and helpful but not intrusive.

The lodge was such high quality, extremely comfortable, with beautiful surroundings, that had a walk around that felt like you were in a fairytale. i really felt like I had the whole place to myself as there is a lot of thought put into the guests privacy. The sauna was amazing! Meeting Anne and Simon, hearing about their journey was really inspiring and you can see that everything they do comes from a place of love.

The sauna and plunge pool were a major highlight of the stay, and the Swedish bath was amazing. The stilt house itself is so beautiful and every detail has been carefully considered. It was lovely being able to stroll around the grounds too - we encountered some very cute cows. Couldn’t brave the lake swim in March temperatures but I wouldn’t hesitate to return! Thank you for a fabulous stay

Exceptional setting and great accommodation. We loved the design, comfy beds and large windows in the middle of a fern forest. The birds calling in the morning, the rope bridge, the river, and the beach were all great. We could easily spend hours in the lush forest. The amenities were excellent alas we lacked a stove but we still managed.

This is a fantastic place to stay if you want to relax and recharge. We stayed in the stilt house which is stunning. It was spotlessly clean and so comfortable. The sauna and plunge pool are in a gorgeous setting,right next to the lake. We chilled in the living room for the evening watching the shooting stars through the floor to ceiling windows. The town of Clifden is just a few minutes drive away. The owners are very friendly and very fortunate to live in such a beautiful and peaceful place.

We had a most refreshing and relaxing time in Fernwood. Anne was the perfect host and no ask was too big or small. Everything about the place was utterly tranquil, from the green interiors surrounded by trees, to the wood fired outdoor bathtub and the sauna by the lake. We had a weekend away from the chaos of life and felt immediately at peace on arriving at Fernwood. We went for the stilt house and the highlights were the enormous wall to wall windows, and the wood fired hot tub. Perfect for a reset and ideally located just a 20min walk from Clifden.

We liked the Swedish tub with the deck and the sauna. We liked the check in and out style being contactless. The only problem was that we could see people outside our windows occasionally but there were no blinds, even in the bathroom. This was very uncomfortable, maybe it’s better in the summer when the trees are fuller?

We stayed for 2 nights in the Stilt House, it was 2 nights of relaxation, serenity and connecting with nature. The house is like nothing we have ever seen, the architecture and design was incredible. The outdoor hottub was a lovely touch. The sauna was private, the plunge pool refreshing and the views were spectacular. This was truly an amazing experience. Its a hidden gem. We will definitely be returning.
