About this villa rental
Villa Gina is a historic villa located on the border of Argegno, in one of the most beautiful and well-kept valleys in the province of Como, the Valle Intelvi, which connects Lake Como with Lake Lugano in Switzerland.
The villa was built in 1766 by an aristocratic Austrian family and was named after the owner, Countess Gina, who later became the main character in Stendhal's novel 'La Certosa di Parma'.
At the end of the 9th century, the villa passed to the family of the famous Italian artist Baldassare Longoni. His works are preserved in the villa.
In 2011, Villa Gina was completely restored; the original stuccoes and ceilings were reconstructed, the floors were replaced with handmade tiles and rare types of marble, which no longer exist. The walls are decorated with frescoes using the old Italian graffito technique; the work was commissioned to a professional exclusively engaged in the restoration of architectural monuments. The hall and small living room are decorated with handmade tapestries dating back to the beginning of the 17th century.
The fireplace room and all 3 bedrooms are decorated with natural silk panels from the best family manufactures on Lake Como, each with a unique view of the lake and mountains. The 18th century Murano glass chandelier that decorated the Chinese Embassy in Paris now adorns Villa Gina with its splendour.
The 800-square-metre villa is in a quiet location in the Intelvi Valley, surrounded by an all-season flower garden with rare old trees, and offers a breathtaking view of Lake Como. On the ground floor of the villa there is a spacious terrace with a view of Lake Como, a large living room, a living room with fireplace, a dining room, a kitchen with fireplace, dishwasher and washing machine. The spacious kitchen with an antique fireplace (ATTENTION: the fireplace is only decorative and CANNOT BE USED!) is equipped with all modern appliances. The rooms are air-conditioned to ensure comfort in all seasons.
There are three bathrooms: one with shower, one with toilet and one with bathtub.
The current owners are passionate about Italian history, and this is reflected in every detail of the villa, which is full of authentic art objects: paintings by Italian artists, silk tapestries, antique furniture with the coats of arms of the oldest Italian families. Villa Gina is surrounded by a luxurious garden with two ancient fountains and rare, well-preserved sculptures dating back to the 18th century and a barbecue area.
