Clean comfy basic room in friendly hostel, good kitchen facilities so could cook if we wanted to, useful as there are few places to eat out. Laundry facilities and an outdoor space where we could sit with a drink and a book in the evening. The hostel isn’t pretty but none of the buildings in the Uists are.

Second time here. It’s perfect! Uist is part of the reason, it is utilitarian, simple, functional unpretentious and like stepping off the merry go round for a sanity check. UTA is a place your beers stay in the communal fridge until you retrieve one
What’s not to like, take friends, be glad to be back after exploring the Hebrides north or south, shop, doctors, restaurant and Chippy a short walk away, no traffic. Fresh air! Enjoy the company and peace!

We loved our stay here- ideal location, rooms are very clean, with everything you need and the kitchen/dining area is a great addition. The kitchen has everything you need- microwave, hob oven and lots of utensils. Would definitely stay again. Communication was also brilliant.

Though not looking like much from the outside, on the inside this made for a very cosy and comfortable stay. The room was well equipped and the bed very comfortable. The location was very good, being just a short drive from the ferry terminal and a short walk to the local hotel/ bar. Good to have wifi provided, and a communal kitchen/ dining area with the ability to store food in the fridge.
The room I was put in originally was next to the dining room, meaning the chat from other guests bled through. I asked for an alterntaive room further away whih was given without any problems.

Fantastic check in, beautiful facilities, all new and fresh, hotel style rooms with bath/shower plus the flexibility of a hostel. Perfect for walkers, cyclists and anyone who loves the Hebrides way of doing things

Fantastic place to stay.
We were met with a great welcome and assistance with our broken glass bottle in our bike pannier.
The beds were so comfortable and communal kitchen was clean and tidy and was really well equipped.
There was even someone playing a fiddle which was a lovely accompaniment tp pur evening meal.

Only up for 2 days for a small job.

Facilities were great and the place was warm (we were there in February)
The bed was quite hard. Not a huge issue but it would have been unpleasant for more than 5nights.

Truly a gem on the island. Highly Recommend. The owners were kind and always available. Clean and very central to tourist sites and transport hubs.

The accommodation was immaculate. I had a comfortable sleep and the showers were good. It was great to have a shared kitchen space, but each to have our own lockable rooms with en-suite. Perfect for a work visit.
There was no tea or coffee, but luckily we brought our own

Friendly and comfortable. Great value. Liked the fact that three local people are trying to make a success of this venture and that our money will be contributing to the local economy. Very organised with slips of paper with room codes and wifi codes. Secure door to the accommodation.
That we couldn't get a booking for a longer period! We loved it.

Top notch passing through accomodation. Lovely hosts who took the time to check whether I was happy despite a very efficient electronic entry system meaning the place can probably run on autopilot. Everything including common areas was spotless and clearly cared for. The room I stayed in had clearly been recently refurbished or finished to a quality functional standard. Heat, lights, hot water, comfort was all exactly what I needed as I worked my way through the Outer Hebrides.
All exactly as expected and desired.

We loved Archie! He helped us with our luggage transfer and even called me to see how we were doing and when he could expect us 😀

Very comfortable accommodation and the shared kitchen is well equipped. The Co op is within walking distance as is the Borodale hotel which serves dinner if you decide not to self cater.

Great location. Peter was a really welcoming and helpful host. The bike shed is a real bonus for those cycling through. The kitchen is a fab facility and kept clean and tidy. Would recommend Uist Travel accommodation.

The hotel was clean and comfortable, with access to the premises and to individual rooms by (different) four-digit numerical codes (plus a letter at the end for the room). It was generally very peaceful, but for the rumbling of the wind (it was always windy, but the noise can be mitigated by closing the window and, at windier times, closing the trickle-vents at the top of the window) and the light traffic from the main road (traffic is much lighter than a comparable A-road on the mainland).
The hotel was equipped with a communal kitchen containing two electric cookers (four hobs plus oven on each cooker), kettle, toaster (with four slots arranged as two pairs), microwave, two refrigerators, freezer, ample cutlery and crockery, and even a washing machine (if only I had known about the washing machine in advance, I could have travelled a bit lighter... maybe next time), but no dishwasher. There was a communal dining-room just across the corridor with space for six people to sit at table comfortably (or eight if people squeeze in) -- during my stay, the kitchen and dining-room were busy enough to be companionable (I spoke with several other guests), but with plenty of time and room to mind one's own business if one preferred (which is, of course, the whole point of going to somewhere like South Uist). I am pleased to say that my food and drink was not stolen at any point during my 5-night stay, despite my not having bothered to label most of my stuff.
In terms of location, the hotel is on the main road in Daliburgh (a short way east of the junction), a short walk from the Co-op grocery store, which is open until 10pm and has a reasonable range of food and drink on offer (but does not do soft-plastic recycling, unlike Co-op stores on the mainland). This meant that it was very easy for me to go and buy ingredients for a late dinner upon returning from a long day out.
I would happily stay at this hotel again on any future visit to South Uist.
A substantial amount of artificial light leaked into the room from the corridor and the streetlights on the main road (i.e.: curtains not very effective at keeping the room dark). Bathroom did not have anywhere convenient to put toiletries (although it did have an excellent heated towel-rack). There were a few free bits of food and drink provided in the kitchen (labelled “free”, to avoid any risk of confusion with the property of other guests), but no cooking oil (which would have been useful, since it is difficult to buy cooking oil in small quantities).
More generally (about the area), it should be remarked that one has to be organised about arranging travel to and from Daliburgh, especially if travelling without a car -- it is perfectly possible, provided that one checks the various bus, train, and ferry timetables (NB: bus timetables for South Uist on many online journey planners are out of date by several years; to check bus times on the island, download the current timetables from the council (Comhairle nan Eilean Siar) website) and interchange options carefully. Depending on the day of the week, the train-ferry connection at Mallaig is tight, and the ferry company is rather vague about what happens in the fairly likely event of train delays, so I decided to get a Citylink coach and a Shiel bus from Glasgow to Mallaig via Fort William to avoid the risk of missing the ferry from Mallaig to Lochboisdale.

This property was exceptionally clean and functional. It probably represents the best value for money across the Islands.
There was nothing that we did not like.
