Great price and location, a small business with great owners and staff doing their best.

Clean, beds comfy, location, parking, lighting, icemaker, refrigerator in room, AC worked fine, staff clearly work hard and care about the business and their duties, ( this is hard to find please keep, develop their skills, pay them, and keep them.) Some small improvements in customer service skills could really do wonders for repeat business. Things like "thank you" whenever possible is so important. Also asking if there are any other needs or assistance when people check in is a great thing to do. little added things like "Ok here is you room key and Wi-Fi information (explaining that as usual) now the ice maker is across the parking lot and there is a refrigerator and ice bucket in your room. The beach is very close and lots of shopping and restaurants nearby if you need any suggestions on where to go let me know" Also offering to tell guests how the beaches and parking work is great, we didn't know you have to pay to park at the beach down the street and or that the beach with parking (Tamarack) was just a minute up the road. We didnt pay the fee the first day so we might get a fine in the mail. It did not show up when I looked online, and mom can't go up and down steps. She is disabled. Other free or cheap things is to have plastic silverware in the room, offer free small cold-water bottles for travelers when they arrive, smile and be engaging, when folks check out say a little more than "ok you're good to go" Add much more like " Was your stay to your liking? We enjoyed having you with us. Thank you so much for staying with us! We appreciate your business, and we hope to see you again! We wish you a safe and quick journey onward!" These little improvements can help keep the rooms full and the prices low. I am a business major, and I have worked in hospitality and customer service for 21 years, so I hope this is of use to you. I would love to come back next year and see Scandia thriving even more!

Water pressure very low except for the sink which was too high and sprays you. drains old and need to be replaced as the shower drain could cut someone's foot. Pillows a little flat and an extra blanket or two would be great. No plastic silverware or plates. Wi-Fi did not work except for small intervals which made watching movies online, gaming, working, or studying not possible. There are people renting the rooms long-term which isn't bad except those folks are constantly outside of their rooms watching everyone and chain smoking. They argue/ yell loudly on the phone daily and due to improper insolation in the walls, every profanity and aggressive/scary thing is heard. They were also observed asking guests for rides and cigarettes. This made mom feel uncomfortable and stressed. We did not feel necessarily unsafe however it was uncomfortable and obnoxious. There was no security nor notice of surveillance. Regardless of whether or not there really is, if notices of it were posted, it would add a feeling of safety at night. I recommend posting these notices as a deterrent to mischief and to prevent issues. Vending machines did not work. Office was cluttered. Customer service was not bad but not great.

Guy running the place super rude when I asked for a different tv remote, he said people like me steal batteries, I’m a Operating engineer , make really good money and have no need to steal batteries, guy should be fired for profiling people !

It needs to be cleaned and a pest control service should be called I wish I would’ve got pictures of the bugs.

Hi I was supposed to stay here in room 130 The floor was black where you can see it needs to be mopped there are bugs flying in the bathroom and two cockroaches came out from underneath the tub it was horrible I had to sleep in my truck it is unlivable

It's a surprisingly nice motel for a good price.

I liked the fast check-in. The room was nice and clean. You're able to park right outside your motel room. The room had 2 queen beds, a fridge, a microwave, plenty of towels, soap, shampoo, and tolietries. The bed linen and towels were very clean. Lastly, you're given a remote when you check in to watch TV. There's cable and HBO to watch.

I didn't like the train sounding his horn throughout the night. This motel is close to train tracks.

There was a woman going around shining her flashlight in cars and a lot of questionable activity throughout the night. the COLD water didn’t work in the sink. The faucet leaked all over the floor. One washcloth for a room that sleeps four?! couldn’t get the TV to work (might’ve been user error). Hair on the towel. Cigarette burn in the comforter. Booked a queen with a kitchenette, I thought. Got a double. When I asked to move, they said they were booked.

Disappointing

I liked the closeness to the beach and the restaurants and shopping in the area.

When I checked in they messed up and charged me in full again for my reservation which was prepaid. I was not given the room I booked, seems like they double booked, then lied to me about why and said the room was out of service, but people were in it. The refrigerator didn't keep things cool, the hairdryer didn't work, the shower curtain kept falling down, and when it rained the roof in the bathroom had a bad leak with paint peeling off and water pooling.

There was absolutely nothing exceptional and not even fair as far as cleanliness goes.

The fact that there are signs posted every 3 ft stating "no smoking within 15 ft of building but yet the person in the room next door parked outside my door was up all night every 2hrs smoking her weed and cigarettes about 4ft from building in her noisy ass car, window down with her car running for 20-30 mins at a time. I asked if she could please turn the car off and she said nobody else had ever complained so I assume she is a regular/ permanent renter there and continued all night long. I finally had to leave at 4am just to maybe get a few hours of sleep in my car away from there.

The picture online did not match the room. No parking near the room we had. No place to hang clothes either.

When something goes south on your stay this place doesn’t know what you are talking about.

Well while I was at work things magically disappeared from my room and after my car was hit in their parking lot none of the 100 cameras on the property caught the footage. There are so many better places to stay in Carlsbad at the same price. Save the headache of dealing with this drug and cockroach infested location.

I stay here often and I booked 2 nights and three day and on the 3rd day I decided to stay another night

The room was clean. I had everything I needed. Although this trip here this time the amount of the deposit went from 50.00 to 100.00 I paid them my deposit of a 100.00. On my debit card when I checked out today they refunded the 100.00 however it will not hit my card for another 3 to5 days. I am a bit disappointed. Although the Scandia is I'm a good part of town I do feel safe here next time I will be bringing cash for the deposit. I did call my card company and because the Scandia refunded my deposit as credit my card company was unable to pay me today. I guess I'll just have to wait... live and learn I hope my mistake will help someone else. Thank youn
