Nice hosts, beautiful location but needs some updating and TLC

Location was beautiful. Owners were so kind.

Old facility needs updating. I know it's Alaska but everything was so musty (carpet, towels, linens). We had to take allergy pills to be able to sleep. Would have liked more choices for breakfast.

Perfect getaway for tourists and locals

The inn and it's owners are very warm and welcoming. The accommodations are very tastefully decorated and anything that you could think of is provided including items for a quick breakfast and snacks. Hanging on the wall near your private entrance is a set of binoculars to watch the local wildlife such as whales in the channel or bears on the beach across the channel. The bathroom has a soaking tub (it was wonderful!) and an abundance of towels. The beds and pillows are incredibly comfortable so it was easy to fall asleep. My favorite part of the room was the antique style gas fireplace that heats the room. I highly recommend the Black Bear Inn to travelers and to locals who want to get away from it all without leaving the island.

This is the best B&B style we have stayed at, Nicole & Jim are very good at making you feel comfortable, at home & feel welcome. It's like they open up their home to you, then make sure your satisfied with everything. We will definitely be back, as this appears to be the best around.

Black Bear Inn is very well maintained by caring hosts.

Black Bear Inn is a gem. Nicole and Jim Church are hospitable hosts. The place is spotlessly clean and in beautiful surroundings. It is landscaped outdoors with lots of little places to sit. There are so many little touches to the rooms and the whole area--highly recommend it!

The perfect place for a reset

The location was top notch, the breakfast always yummy and the room was beyond comfortable. But the best part of the experience was getting to meet Nicole and Jim and so many others in this beautiful town. We are already planning our next trip.

Lovely Memorable Stay

Everything was exceptional! The hosts are so kind and helpful! The location and facilities are beautiful. My room was super cozy and comfortable, I slept like a baby and enjoyed the spectacular sea view in the morning and evening. Perfect for travelers who are in Ketchikan to relax and enjoy nature.

I loved the rural location so there is nothing to complain about - though I'm mentioning it because some travelers might find it a bit far from downtown. There is a bus that comes nearby.

Perfect!

Nicole and Her husband Jim were very friendly and helpful. She helped me book a fishing trip through salmon falls resort. Jim came to pick us up from the ferry after our plane came in. Very knowledgeable of the area and recommended all the best local places. We stayed in the bunkhouse and we were the only people staying at the INN because season hasn’t quite opened up yet. Cabin was perfect for my husband and I.

Nicole and Jim maintain an excellent property and will make you feel most welcome upon your arrival.

The property was beyond what I imagined. Inside, you will be swept away by the decor. It combines history, culture and a fairy tale- like setting that is pleasing to the eye and radiates comfort and coziness. The exterior in the rear of the property places you in touch with nature. The room I stayed in was very appealing to the senses and I slept like a baby. There is plenty of room to stretch out and you are provided all the accommodations of home.

There was nothing about this property that I didn’t like.

Very good

Location was excellent. Accommodations were very nice and clean. Extra items provided (binoculars, umbrellas, ect.) went beyond my expectations and included anything one might need during their stay.

Upon arrival the hostess seemed very pleasant. However, by the time I checked out three days later, I found her to be rude and condescending. I am unsure if this change came about because tend to keep to myself and did not partake in breakfast each morning, or if it was due to using a different (less expensive) rental car agency than she had recommended, or if perhaps it was my comment about preferring to not watch news. Whatever it was, my stay in this beautiful location was tainted by her unpleasant personality.
