About this house rental

Our home sits on top of a mountain looking out across a natural reserve. There is a constant breeze that cools the home in every direction. There is nothing behind us but a river with a waterfall and lush jungle. Monkeys, toucans, huge iguanas, ant eaters, porcupines, hawks, and other animals and birds of every species visit us frequently. Specially when giving fruit and water. We live in a gated community with neighbors from Switzerland, United States, Canada, Italy and Costa Rica. The home is about 3,500+ square feet on 2 acres of fenced land. All bedrooms have walk-in closets with full bathroom and wonderful views in every room. The kitchen has a restaurant style commercial equipment with a gas oven, griddle, burners and grill. You can barbecue indoors! We have an outdoor gym with professional gym equipment.
The backyard with views of volcanoes and the most amazing breeze, is equipped with a table for ten and jacuzzi.
An outdoor portable fireplace, perfect for roasting marshmallows under the stars.
Outdoor bed for two in the yard with seating area underneath and overlooking the valley and mountains, a beautiful place for the glass of wine and relaxing.
We can walk to the quaint coffee town of Atenas in 15 minutes. Known for having the best weather in the world, with it's year round 80f / 27c degree weather, Atenas was listed as one of the best places to retire in the world by AARP magazine. It is a very expat friendly town with many restaurants and activities. We are located in the mountains on the road from the San Jose airport to the Pacific coast. It's an easy drive of just 30 minutes to be on the coast driving over the Tarcoles bridge to see the crocodiles, and continue on to Punta Leona, Jaco beach, Manuel Antonio, and many more. From our house we can reach just about anywhere in the country and come back in the same day.
You can go to the mall or the movies in just minutes.
We can help you coordinate pick up or drop off for the airport or any trips you want to take.

We are here to guide you and give you advice on trips and restaurants.

* Groups of 6 or less will have access to 3 bedrooms.
* Groups of more than 6 pay $20 extra per person per day and will have the 4th bedroom with King size bed opened and additional beds available.

The neighborhood is very secure with a main gate entrance and the entire property is enclosed with fencing for security. The property itself has its own secure gate you will be able to open with a phone app.
There are exterior security cameras at the main gate, garage, and on the roof looking out over the property.

The pros: this is a gorgeous house in a lovely location. The cons: the house is not great for big groups, and the host is an extremely poor communicator. The bedroom walls do not reach the ceilings, so no bedroom has any real privacy. If someone so much as coughs, you'll hear it. If your group has someone who snores, or a baby who cries, or even people who like to stay up late talking, you'll have trouble sleeping here. As a group of 11, we thought we’d have plenty of sleeping space in this house that said it could fit 20 — instead we found just 6 beds, plus 2 lumpy, dusty futons and 2 bare mattresses leaning up against the wall. There were no sheets or pillowcases for any of these "extra beds," so we tried to contact the host. We got no response for hours (including a phone call to a wrong number), and finally called VRBO support out of desperation. VRBO got the host on the line, who insisted there were sheets in the closet (there weren’t). Once VRBO support hung up, the host called back to say they were embarrassed about their mistake and they were sending someone over to bring us sheets. (As for pillows, they said there were already 13 in the house and we shouldn’t need any more.) By the time someone showed up, it was after 10pm and we were exhausted and extremely frustrated. It was an unfortunate start to our stay, and left us feeling like we’d wasted a night of our trip. I can't recommend that you stay here if you're in a big group.

I can not recommend this property after the stay we had. The beds have been eaten through by bugs. There is no pool. The thing they call a pool is a disposable joke. It’s a mosquito farm from the 80’s. There are water reservoirs and holding spots throughout the expansive property so the bugs have plenty breeding grounds. We were bleeding by day two. The host says “costa rica has bugs” but I live a mile away from this house and NO. The gym pictures has a gigantic dying truck in the middle of it that has leaked chemicals everywhere so you can’t work out there. Oh and the house was FILTHY. I paid to bring my own cleaning lady in for three days before we abandoned the house mid rental and moved to another location.

We thoroughly enjoyed vista volcanes. The size of the place is awesome with its open concept and sliding doors that bring the outside in. It has a lovely hot tub, and is set on a hill overlooking a valley as well paos volcano where we spent our evenings over great meals prepared in the vast kitchen . It is located in a safe gated friendly community of like minded people. The toucans visit in the early morning, and the area is teaming with birds and various wildlife (coati Mundi, capybera, lizards). Would return in a heartbeat!

We stayed in this beautiful home instead of staying at a hotel near airport for a few nights before we left CR. The home is beautiful and the views stunning. The host arranged for us to have a celebration dinner with a local chef. There is a restaurant style kitchen and barbecue—it’s incredible! We really enjoyed our stay and will be back when we are in the area.

We were 2 couples, and stayed for almost 2 months. We had an issue with the fridge a day after we arrived but it was fixed immediately. The owner and his family were gracious and so very friendly. Weather was exceptional, warm during the day and cool at night great to sleep. Not great place for someone who has trouble walking, however we found a driver [Cesar] who did everything for us at a very reasonable cost, he even picked up and delivered restaurant food. Would certainly return.

The view is stunning, I loved the chickens and fresh eggs every morning. The owner was very responsive. The house is very comfortable, beds and kitchen. The faucet came off pretty much first day and that was tricky. I would definately come back again!
