Private vacation cabin near Pinecrest Lake and Dodge Ridge Ski Area, in the central California Sierras. If you are looking for a cabin experience in a peaceful forest setting, here it is. Our Winter Way cabin in Strawberry is set in a peaceful forest surrounded by trees, the S. Fork Stanislaus river and Strawberry meadow, with a cabin neighbor on only one side (neighboring vacant land provides seclusion but is privately owned and trespassing is prohibited). While the cabin has most of the comforts of home, it is "unplugged" with no WiFi or landline telephone and limited cell service (depends on carrier) and television reception. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the amazing nature and scenery, sit and relax on the large deck overlooking the river, throw a line in the river for a morning of fishing, or just sit and soak in the Hot Tub (operating condition not guaranteed).

Great kitchen, beautiful screened windows, lovely knotty pine walls and ceilings. Big deck - great for outdoor meals, games and reading. Private location. We had a wonderful time!

Quiet location, comfortable beds! Would recommend bringing kitchen items you depend on: foil, Saran Wrap, sugar, cooking spray, napkins, ziplocks, Clorox wipes, sponge. No laundry, so extra bath towels a must. Ran out of dish soap, TP, and paper towels the first day and the owner was quick to resupply! Would stay again!

We enjoyed to proximity to Pinecrest, being unplugged in a beautiful setting, and the hot tub with the fire going. The furniture could be updated to be more comfortable and would say it’s more like 6 adults and two children, but not 8 adults…but otherwise it had everything we needed for me and my husband and my son and his wife. It felt like going back in time which we loved.

The trip started off stressful. Chk in instructions stated how to access property. We arrived 20min after chk in time & could not get in. Phone service is poor in the area. Attempted to contact owner & only reached vm. There was no other contact number or person. Called vrbo. We kept getting disconnected from one another. I had to drive several miles down the road to get a better connection. I had elderly family members & we had already driven 3.5 hrs to arrive. Vrbo worked to find us a solution. 3hrs later vrbo found someone to help. Apparently the owner was out of the country and didnt provide the courtesy of a contact person in his place. In total, it was nearly 3.5 additional hours after we arrived that we got in. Once in, we set to making dinner being it had been over 8hrs since we last ate. I didn't go upstairs until after dinner. What I found was a dirty bathroom sink with what appeared to hair clippings & an unflushed dirty toilet. So, now I had to clean the bathroom. When it was time for bed, I worried that might not be clean, too, but was simply too tired to care. Next day we found puzzle pieces behind tv we couldn't get to. During the stay, people were driving up to property to view, apparently it's for sale. We made the best of the rest of the trip, but had lost our entire first day. The cabin is nice and has nice views. Just the common courtesy of a back up contact would have made a big difference, and a better cleaning job!

We had a just right stay in Strawberry with our sweet dog and young teenage sons! A break from the Internet with lots of different DVD's, games/puzzles (though we just ended up playing the ones we brought) and easy drives to our outdoor play areas were appreciated. We had a beautiful April snow with saucers available and built a couple of snow people. Though some upgrades to the cottage have been completed, I preferred the hominess and ease that the cottage brought to our stay. The cottage had great cooking tools and the beds were plentiful. Thank you for opening your home to our family, including our fur baby!

To take advantage of our son’s last week of paternity leave, with his 5 year and 5 month old kids, we chose the Winter Way Cabin, knowing next to nothing about Pinecrest, Dodge Ridge, or Strawberry beyond what we’ve seen driving through on 108. This is a special landscape, with the beautiful S. Fork of the Stanislaus flowing nearby and a wonderful collection of homes and cabins, both new and historic making up this rustic, wooded community. The cabin is nicely appointed with indoor and outdoor spaces, generous enough for all of us to play and relax.

Check in was a breeze, cabin was in excellent location (near Dodge Ridge, river, and Strawberry Inn/store), hot tub was a nice addition, kitchen was well stocked. Only downside we’re the upstairs beds that were a bit uncomfortable and old.

We have stayed at this property 4 times over the last 8 years and there is a reason we keep coming back. Note that there is very bad cell service and no wifi but it’s refreshing to be disconnected!

Great place for a quiet retreat before the holidays! The cabin is cozy and in a very beautiful location. Marvin is a great host and was very responsive to any questions we had. We will definitely be back again.

We love this place. This is our 4th time returning because it’s so great. Great location- close to Pinecrest and Dodge Ridge. There is a great hike down the river just steps from the cabin with rock climbing and fishing. The hot tub is a huge plus in all the seasons. The cabin is clean and warm and the kitchen has everything to fit your cooking needs.

We just ended another great stay/fishing trip at the Winter Way Cabin. As always, it was clean, had all the amenities, and was nice and quiet. We primarily visit Pinecrest to fish so it's nice to be able to cook and take a hot shower everyday. We've been staying at the Winter Way cabin for a few years now and we've always had a great time. I highly recommend it.

We liked the cabin quite a lot. Beautiful location, the hot tub is great. Only downsides were that the dishwasher smells terrible and we couldn't use it or solve it by running it empty, and there's no door on one of the bathrooms. It wasn't really a problem for us, but in case it's not noted on the description, it could be an issue for some. But overall a very good experience.

This little cabin was perfect for our stay. The host was very responsive with the little extra things we needed. We really emjoyed our stay here. The back porch was a nice addition to the cabin with a view of the river. The cabin was tucked away at the end of strawberry making our stay very secluded and quiet...which was perfect.

We had a wonderful time at the Winter Way cabin. It was a good size, very comfortable for the four of us and our dog, and on a quiet street surrounded by the forest. Even though we've been going to the area for over 25 years, we'd never been on this side of the river, and it was beautiful and peaceful. We hope to come back!

Oh my goodness! We love this cabin! It was perfect for our family, and it was so easy to get to Pinecrest! We would stay here multiple times a year! We had such a great time! Thank you for allowing us to use your cabin!

Quaint mountain cabin, very cizy and rustic. Just a short drive to Pinecrest lake made it very convenient. My only suggestion would be to let guests know to bring trash bags and extra paper towels and toilet paper. We also bought dishwasher soap as bottle was nearly empty. We left that and extra toilet paper for the next guests. Oven could use a cleaning, but it's hard to do that with what I am sure is a quick turnaround between guests. All in all a very peaceful and good time.

Celebrating my 40th with friends and family. Great views, great house, and great times. A very roomy space, wonderful wood burning fireplace. Spent lots of time on the porch with the dog listening to the river. Before the heat turned up we made use of the hot tub to top off our stay. Would highly recommend and we’ll be back! We had a great week at the cabin. Beds were comfortable, cabin was clean, we did a lot of cooking so the fully stocked kitchen was great. Hot tub was a great perk as well. We would stay here again.

The cabin was perfect! We filled all 8 beds one night with family from as far as New Zealand, Chicago, Colorado and as close as San Francisco. Yosemite was close enough to drive to for the day, while Lake Pinecrest offered a challenging “ramble “ as well as boating and fishing and camping for our overflow. The views were as hoped for. The cabin was fully furnished as promised. It is spacious inside and has a deck overlooking the Stanislaus River as well as the hot tub. We would rent it again if we are ever back in the area.

Such a great vacation. Beautiful cabin and awesome for sledding. The hot tub was hot and perfect to relax in after a fun day. Came equipped with everything you would need for a perfect stay.
