We had a wonderful stay at Alfords Getaway. The house was sparkling clean and very comfortable. We appreciated that each bedroom had its own bathroom. The kitchen was well-equipped. Coffee on the porch was a highlight each morning. Everything worked well. The information binder was clear with great explanations. It was a peaceful retreat for us. We will look forward to returning one day.

A pleasure arriving to this lovely, fresh smelling home on the lake! Easy communication with the owners. Views from lakeside rooms were amazing. We loved drinking coffee on the top balcony where chipmunks entertained us below. We rented a pontoon and easily docked it at the property dock. Use of the owner’s crock pot was a nice touch for a home cooked pot roast. All appliances were easy to use and kitchen was well stocked with dishes, flatware, utensils, etc. Our favorite restaurant on the water was Napoli. Several excellent restaurants (Bull Docks, Bella Vita Italian) were a short drive from the property as well as the grocery store and Bridgewater Marina. Stay here if you’re looking for a lovely vacation on SML!!

The house was very comfortable. The only problem was we all are in our 60’s and the hike back to the house was a challenge.

This house has everything needed for a week away from home. It is one of the cleanest vacation houses we have stayed at. The covered back porch was my favorite part. Perfect for morning coffee or an evening cocktail. Our sons loved fishing off the dock every night. We would definitely come back.

Lovely, tranquil setting on the lake. Very accommodating hosts. The house is very comfortable and clean. The kayaks were a nice added bonus.

The 6 of us traveled to SML from Arkansas to have a family reunion. My brother lives across the cove from this property and recommended it to us. It was perfect for our party of 6 adults. Had 3 large bedrooms, each with their own full bath, a well stocked kitchen, laundry room, 2 living areas, 2 beautiful porches, and a dock with kayaks available for our use. We could not have asked for better accommodations, we appreciate how well kept the property is, the ease of check in and out, and the responsiveness of the owners. Thank you Alford’s Getaway for the wonderful memories we made on SML!

My family and I had a great time at this lake house. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could ever want, crockpot, toaster oven, toaster, coffee pot. The owners thought of everything from flashlights to cleaning products. We did bring our Keurig for convenience and an air fryer would have been a bonus but probably hard to keep clean. The grill was fabulous and huge and the owner left us a new grill sponge to clean it with in between uses. The outdoor spaces are great and it’s perfect for a big family. There are a few downsides that others have noted like the very steep driveway and access to the lake which is typical of the lake. I am 60 so only went down to the lake once but younger folks didn’t seem to have an issue. I enjoyed my view from the deck so didn’t miss going down to the dock. The stairs are also steep going down to the lower level where there are 2 bedrooms so mine was upstairs. Again the younger folks didn’t seem to have a problem. In the master upstairs the shower was small and not very powerful and well water makes you hair kinda flat but since we were just family it didn’t really matter much. And the shower head was handheld so I was able to adjust for the low water pressure. The feeling of the house is very comfortable. It felt like I was staying at a relatives house. For the most part it was quiet and serene. The neighbors were nice and let us borrow their air compressor to blow up some floats. I would highly recommend this lake house.

Impeccably clean, very spacious, beautiful dock, and views!! The kitchen is completely stocked with everything needed, and the propane grill was brand new! We have owned two beautiful lakefront homes, so we are pretty picky about frontage, etc. and this home surpassed our expectations. So thoroughly enjoyed our time there!

We had a wonderful time with our adult children. The home is spacious with plenty of room and the porch and dock are also spacious for families to gather. Everything was clean and in great condition for a weekend get away.

Wonderfully kept property....super clean and right near the action...lake central...but remarkably quite cove with mature trees that shade the house. Great dock... swimming and kayaking is a must at the lake! Doesn't feel like a rental....feels like you're borrowing you aunt and uncle's place. Great communication from owners. A+++

Nice getaway.

This was our second year staying at Alford’s Getaway! Many great memories were made! The house was perfect for our family! The house is very clean and Betty is a great host! We enjoyed eating on the porch with the great view. We had 6 people that included two teenagers who enjoyed jumping off the top of the dock and fishing at the dock. My husband and I enjoyed floating in the cove and kayaking. The jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom was a relaxing way to end the day. We also brought our boat and used the State Park to put our boat in which only costs $3 to put in and $3 to take out.

We had a lovely stay with friends at Alfords’ Get-Away, which is located in a quiet cove not far from the marina where we rented a pontoon boat and jet skis, both of which tied up nicely at the dock. The house was great—comfortable, well-stocked, and obviously well cared for. It was nice to have big bedrooms and bathrooms on separate levels both with access to outdoor spaces and views of the lake — just the right amount of privacy for two couples. Thank you to our hosts for sharing their home!

This was a beautiful get away. Very quiet. Calm cove waters perfect for swimming, paddling and floating. The house was spotless and as described. Plenty of space, well appointed kitchen.

This house was extremely clean, well kept, and well stocked. The kitchen is the best stocked kitchen on the lake for supplies !! The house is absolutely beautiful ! Wonderful neighbors and in a great area. The cove is quiet, we had an excellent time swimming off the dock. The incline to the dock is very steep. Driveway not trailer friendly. Take boat to Hales Ford Public Boat ramp and put in first ! You will be much happier ! The wildlife in the area was awesome to see ,especially the baby otters that would come out in the mornings to play, which you could see well from deck. Loved having a bathroom for each bedroom . Would definately stay here again . Hosts were very responsive to any questions we had and very welcoming.

This was an almost perfect vacation rental for two 60+ couples- except for the hill to the house. By SML standards, I'd say it is a moderate hill with a nicely paved path, but it's hard on aging knees going down and a real cardio workout coming back up! That's really the only negative about Alford's Getaway. The house is wonderful, as is the neighborhood! We loved starting and ending our days on the upstairs deck. The view of the cove is beautiful, and there is usually a bit of a breeze. Bugs were not a problem, so my husband slept on the porch one night! On our way in to look at the property before we checked in, we met Harold as he was tending his marigold beds. He obviously takes great pride in maintaining a beautiful lawn! Betty was very helpful whenever we had questions, responding promptly to our texts. You couldn't ask for better hosts! The house is designed and equipped for vacation comfort. Unloading directly into the kitchen made stocking the refrigerator a breeze! There is a great selection of cookware, if you choose to dine at the house. The furniture and beds are wonderfully comfortable. On top of all that, the place was spotless!

We spent a week at Alford's Getaway. It is a great location on the lake. We rented a boat and jet ski and there was ample room for both at the dock. The house is exactly as advertised and was perfect for our family and some visiting friends. It was great to relax after a day on the water on the back deck while grilling some dinner. The hosts communicated what we needed to bring and checked on us during our visit. We will definately be back!

We liked it a lot. We are coming back in July.

Wonderful property with wonderful host! Highly recommended!

We have never have been to Smith Mountain Lake before and found it so beautiful. We were celebrating our Virginia Tech graduate so made several trips back and forth to Blacksburg (although hour and half away) well worth coming back and forth to such a lovely area and accommodations. Wonderful time fishing and kayaking. Explored the wineries up the road and took advantage of the many porches and dock deck. Would go back in a heartbeat!

The Alford Getaway was absolutely beautiful, very clean with a perfect waterfront location.

This was our first vacation after the year and a half of Covid restrictions and it was just what we needed. No stress, very relaxing. The water was wonderful for swimming and my favorite spot for reading was a chaise on the upper porch. It was all just right for two retired couples.

Our family of 6 enjoyed our week at SML while staying at Betty & Harold’s house. When we got a little over zealous with air fryers and overloaded a circuit, they were quick to respond and came to help us find the tripped breaker. Betty was very helpful before we ever arrived by locating a good place to park our boat trailer and advice with extension cord to charge batteries on our boat (FYI, 50’ was perfect). The incline to the water was a little steeper than we thought it would be, not so perfect with knee injuries or healing from a joint replacement, but we all survived it and enjoyed our stay.

This house is PERFECT! The location on the lake is close to several great places to eat by boat. We put our boat in at the State Park which was easy and convenient. We enjoyed everything the house offered from the view from the deck to kayaking and air hockey! We ate every meal on the deck and cooked on the grill several nights. The jacuzzi tub in the master bath was perfect after a day on the lake! We already booked a week for 2022!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Smith Mountain Lake. This house was a perfect layout with the separate bedrooms and bathrooms for three couples. The property and the house is clean and definitely treated with TLC from the owners. It is well maintained and equipped for our week stay. The added bonus is that the neighbors were very welcoming. It was a convenient location for us. It's a great place to stay in Smith Mountain Lake!

We really enjoyed the house, dock and lake. It was two families and we had our kids for half the week. The house has some good space but needs updating and the dock is really nice. We did have an issue in the downstairs bedroom/bathroom with an infestation of flies. We notified the owner and they took care of it that day. Everything went well until the owners notified us they were charging us an additional cleaning fee. They said there was a chocolate hand print on the door, some chalk on the driveway from the kids drawing, and the tubs were dirty. I know none of them know us but we would never leave a house a mess. We picked up everything and made sure to go through their check list and did everything on the list. There was zero trash left, beds were made, dishes were done, everything was put back where we found it. We paid a cleaning fee so I’m not going to clean the bathrooms and vacuum and mop floors. The owners never sent us any proof of “the mess” that we apparently left. It’s sad that this is how we had to end a great week of vacation.
