If you like history, this is a wonderful place to stay. The house is full of historical detail, and the property brings you back in time. The location is absolutely beautiful. The hosts have adequately stocked the house with confortable bedding and linens as well as the kitchen, and it was very nice to not have to worry about bringing anything but ourselves. I especially loved the old soapstone sink in the kitchen. We had a chance to take a walk around the property, and the natural setting and beauty was just magical. We did experience some issues related to the weather, and our communication with the host was great and she resolved it right away. I would highly recommend this property and it was a pleasure communicating with Catherine.
My only feedback is that the house could use some decluttering of the personal effects like the old books and maybe have some upgrades to the older carpeting and furnishings, especially for anyone that might be allergy sensitive.
However, my kids and I really loved how charming and comfortable the property was.

We had a wonderful week here, in a old quiet house down a quiet road. Plenty to do nearby. The house is dated but that’s obvious in the listing. It could use a serious de-cluttering, but it didn’t affect my experience.

A relaxing getaway!
We enjoyed this area with all the walking trails. The home was cozy and filled with history. It was quiet and peaceful. We would stay again.

A Lovely Week at DeWick Farm
We loved our stay at the DeWick Farm. The house is on a large piece of property near the end of a small country road. Communications with Catherine was easy from beginning to end. The house was clean and well-equipped. A few things to note for those considering:
1. The family has generously placed much of the property in a land trust with trails throughout for the public to use. We love the spirit of sharing the beautiful property but you should be aware that there is a parking area across the street from the house that can be fairly active in the morning.
2. The downstairs bedroom has a toilet and sink in the bedroom (not in a separate room).
3. None of the downstairs windows seem to open so it can get a bit stuffy on a hot day. We opened the front door and kitchen doors to get OK air flow.
4. The barn/studio is attached to the house through a small mudroom off the kitchen. This is an amazing space with a big screened opening looking out towards the street and the field beyond. We spent as much time as we could in this space.
5. Reid State Park is a 30 min drive away. Stunning beach with excellent swimming options.
6. Sewell Pond is between the farm and Reid State Park. Perfect spot for a quick fresh-water dip.
All-in-all a wonderful week. We strongly recommend.

Quiet and refreshing
We enjoyed the slow pace that this location encourages. You get embraced by the history of the house and its history! It was just what we needed.

Charming home
Charming historic home in a quiet area convenient to Bath and Boothbay.

A peaceful throwback
It was lovely being immersed in the slower pace of an earlier time, through this historical home. What needed to work well in a modern way, did! We loved so much of Nature surrounding us, too. Don’t miss the attached dining and resting room, in an exposed beam, barn-like setting. If you need to slow down a spell, this is the place!

The highlight of our stay in Maine
Staying here was like a trip back in time, in the most enjoyable way. A peaceful, relaxing, comfortable stay in an old farmhouse filled with layers of fascinating local history. Exploring the grounds also great. Next time with warmer weather and a little more time, we'll swim down by the rock and take the canoe for a spin. Also great location to explore Bath and the surrounding areas. If you're looking for the most modern conveniences, this property perhaps not for you, but for us it was absolutely wonderful.

True Maine
Our stay of a week could not have been more peaceful and relaxing. A beautiful location if you want to see the sights (Damarascotta, Monhegan Island, Freeport) or just hang with a beautiful view of the bay. Definitely a 5 star vacation!

Imagine staying in a pristine antique museum
We loved this property, especially the art/playroom loft barn. Words cannot accurately describe the natural beauty of the surrounding area. We hope to return one day soon.

Beautiful location ~
We had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday on the farm. The property has so much charm and character. The communication with the host, Catherine, was excellent. It was chilly outside but the house stayed warm. There are some areas that need a little TLC but nothing that impacted our stay. We'd love to come back in the summer!

Lovely period-piece property, in a beautiful quiet area
This is a delightful property. We really enjoyed our stay here - 4 adults, 3 kids. It has plenty of character and lots of wonderful old books and photos around the house. It doesn't have the most modern appliances (wi-fi, washing machine, dishwasher) but if you are looking for a peaceful place to get away from it all, I would highly recommend it. Also it's close to Bath and Reid State Park so lots of exploring is possible.

Quaint and relaxing get-away
My three teenage children and my husband really enjoyed staying here. We enjoyed time at the water fishing and taking in the scenery. The house was a perfect fit for our family. The kitchen was well stocked and it had everything we needed
We enjoyed time at Popham Beach which was about a 40 minute drive. It was so nice and we enjoyed walking out the sandbar to the island. On our way back we would stop for lobster that we cooked back at the house.
The house was very clean and quaint. It was a nice get away! Our son enjoyed fishing down at the water though the bugs were relentless! Be sure to bring lots of bug repellent even though I do not think it helped much.
Thank you very much for the time at your home! We enjoyed reading and learning the history.

Charming property in a great location.
It's a bit rustic, but a beautiful property. Very peaceful and close to Bath and Wicassett. 30 minutes from an outstanding beach at Popham State Park.
I would certainly recommend it.

Beautiful home, rich in history and so much to offer!
The listing doesn't do this beautiful property justice! This home is wonderfully kept and with such attention to detail as comfortable bedding to create a perfect ambience for a lovely Maine vacation! The beautiful property and trails surrounding the house give you hours of things to do! The rich history adds to the ambience. There are hidden treasures everywhere! The central location is perfect for day trips and we can't say enough about this place. We plan to come back! Thank you for everything!!

Our own little piece of paradise with rich history
Where do I even begin?? I have so many wonderful memories of our stay at the Farm.
My family and I spent Labor Day weekend at the DeWick Farm. It was nothing short of AMAZING! The Phipps Point area was wonderful, lush and full of woods with houses quietly tucked away in their midst. The was no shortage of privacy at all in this amazing area. There was also a great amount to do right outside the house. We spent a few days down by the river fishing while the kids hunted around for "creatures". The kids absolutely loved it! There is so much space surrounding you and not a soul in sight... at night you can see billions of stars (yes, billions!) and hear the animals communicating to each other in the woods. As far as interactions with neighbors or traffic, well, the occasional car driving past the house was considered the Farm's "traffic", lol... and of the few cars that did pass, not one went by without a wave and a friendly smile.
The home itself is a very special place. Full of memories and pictures, being in there you can vividly imagine what it must have been like more than half a century earlier. The home is in great shape, Catherine and her family have maintained it beautifully. We felt lucky to be able to stay in such a beautiful, historic home.
My family and I were very sad to have to leave, for the short time we were there it truly felt like home. We made memories there that will last a lifetime. Before we even arrived Catherine made us feel at home. Once there we were able to meet Catherine and her family. They were all such wonderful, kind spirited people and we feel fortunate to have met them.
If you're looking for privacy and a home located in a pristine setting, this is the home for you!
Thank you to the DeWick/Johnson family.
All the best,
Ellaine
P.S. - Catherine, I've listened to your advice and my entire linen closet reminds me of your home in Maine! :)

Old-timey and serene
The farm was in a beautiful remote location with total privacy, complete with view of the water from the bedrooom and access to the ocean. The house was tastefully decorated, chock-full of old games, historic objects and furniture. This would be a great place to visit with children since it feels like a trip to the museum yet a very comfortable one. Beds were comfortable and linens crisp, clean and of the best quality. Like other reviewers have said, the kitchen has all the implements you need. A more fuctional second bathroom would be great but I understand it's in the works. Looking forward for an opportunity to come back.

A classic coastal Maine retreat
My girlfriend and I stayed for only two days and wished we had stayed longer! we loved the location as its the perfect place to experience coastal Maine the way it should be. The historic home was just the way it should be and we felt at ease instantly there. We highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for peacefulness and beauty in the Maine coastal country side! we will be back to stay for sure!!

Full of charm
This is the most original vacation rental we've ever done. On our way to Maine, we stopped in Portsmouth, NH and visited the Strawberry Banke. Well, we haven't seen more in this museum than in the farm ! Entering the house is a travel in time. There are plenty of treasures there.
If you're looking for modern design, modern comfort, (there is no dishwasher, no washing machine, no wifi although there is sat Tv) you have to go somewhere else. This place is just about relaxing, resting and enjoying the scenery.
Thank you Catherine for sharing your farm.
We really hope we'll have the opportunity to come back here, this time a little longer.

Rustic, delightful old farmhouse
The Saltwater Farm on Phipps Point, Woolwich, Maine was a great place to get away with our 3 small children, ages 2.5 - 6. The kids loved exploring the house and grounds around it. There are a number of trails around the property. The farm is about a 15 minute drive from Bath which has large supermarket and a number of attractions. Freeport, ME with its outlet stores is about a 30 min drive. Between Bath and the farm is Nequasset park, a town owned swim park and public boat launch on fresh water which the kids enjoyed.
The farmhouse does not have a dishwasher or wifi. This was OK with us as we sought a slower pace, so didn't mind handwashing the dishes, and wanted a chance to get off the grid. The barbecue is an old-style shallow bowl on a stand. Contrary to some of the older reviews, there is now a shower installed.
The house had everything we needed for a great stay. The house was very clean and well maintained. The owners also provided some board games, a croquet set, and even bubble wands for the kids. The towels and linens were all new and of high quality. We also appreciated the good quality pots, pans, and knives. Sometimes rentals have the cheapest crockery and one or two dull knives. It is clear that the owners use the property and so it is very functional. These small things make a difference.
We would definitely come back.
This property is not for everybody. If you are looking for a more modern property with gas grill, dishwasher, wifi, AC, etc that is within walking distance to shops and restaurants, then this is definitely not the place for you. On the other hand if you want a quite location with a number of hiking trails, easy access to swimming and boating, and a short drive to town, then it is a delight.

A step back in time with great views and some modern conveniences
This is an incredible home and I recommend it for a launching pad for exploring the mid coast of Maine. Worlds away from civilization while being close enough (10 minutes) for groceries, restaurants and sightseeing... Stayed here for a wedding weekend and wish I had more time and more of my family with me to enjoy the home, farm and salt water. It's a neatly preserved old Maine home with neat decorations and knick·knacks. Ideal for a romantic get away, family vacation or group of friends getting together to celebrate. It gets 4 out of 5 stars only because it did not have a shower (only a tub). Internet would be a bonus but you may want to get away. It does have satellite TV and movies for rainy day entertainment.

Quaint family farm-house packed with books & games
We stayed at this lovely old home near Bath for a long weekend with family members from Canada (it was a good halfway point for meeting up). The farm has a magical quality to it; staying there felt like going back in time. It seems a rare opportunity to get to stay in a spot that has been in a family for so long, and there is clearly a lot of history and Maine lore to bask in if you so choose! We loved that the house was packed with books and games. There is a nice patio area with umbrella, chairs and chaise, there was a croquet set, a kayak, a grill. We spent a lot of time in the "shed" where we ate meals and played games and chatted in the evenings. The shed is an attached structure with a screened side that looks across a meadow to the water of the bay, and we were continually seeing deer in the meadow. Very tranquil. The evenings were super quiet and peaceful... No lights except for fireflies, no sound except for Route 1 far in the distance. During the day we made excursions in the area--one day to the beach at Reid State Park on Georgetown island (at the owner's suggestion), another day we went to the Bath Farmer's Market followed by the Freeport outlets. The house was a good fit for our needs since we have 2 kids that could use the room with twin beds, plus a couple and two more individuals took up the remaining 3 rooms. The kitchen was well appointed (handwash dishes) and we did a lot of cooking. A large coffee maker was also very welcome! (Bathtub only)

Home away from home.
We had such a great time on the farm. We had a party of six, my husband, myself, our two kids ages 11 & 6 and my parents. The owner was waiting on us as we arrived and made us all feel at home. The house was lovely and everything we expected. We all agreed our favorite room was the wood shed room. It was fun explaining to the kids what a "privy" was. We enjoyed exploring and trying our hand at fishing in the bay. When the owner found out we had no luck he called to tell us where the fish were biting. We hated to leave but hope to return soon.

Weeklong stay late in May 2013
My wife and I stayed here for a week at the end of May. We were met at the house by Steve, the owner, who was very helpful in showing us the ins and outs of the house. We've rented many VRBO properties and Steve is one of the most helpful owners we've encountered.
The house is 200 years old with beautiful wooden floors and it's located in a quiet remote spot with a distant view of the water. The woodshed was, by far, our favorite room in the house and we enjoyed sitting there in rocking chairs watching the landscape and the wildlife, e.g. deer. The lane the house is on is good for walking (and there's a Morgan horse ranch just down the lane where we enjoyed watching the horses).
There is one bedroom downstairs and all the others are upstairs (with some fairly steep stairs to navigate). Since it was just us, we used only the downstairs bedroom. The downstairs toilet was a bit odd, located in the bedroom without any partitions - so we did tend to use the upstairs bathroom which is a full bathroom with a nice tub.
Some of the upholstered furniture needs to be updated. We've conveyed that to the owner and he's indicated that he'll be taking care of that.
We had an enjoyable time there. It was remote enough to be quiet and relaxing and yet was within 8 miles of a large grocery and several restaurants.
