The house was located in a great spot for our trip. We were at a family reunion and everything was just a short drive. Shopping and site seeing were just minutes in every direction. Only bad thing was all the stairs and lack of television in the room where we all spent most of our time.

We were in Newport for our first time on the Oregon coast to meet up and vacation with family members that just moved to Eugene/Salem. Our group included two grandparents (top floor primary bedroom suite with the best view suited us perfectly!!), and our two adult kids with their partners, along with one 3 year old grandchild. Having all the kids on the first floor, with the common living space on the middle level is the ideal layout and one that has always worked best for our vacation rentals. The large walk-in closet off one of the bedrooms was even an ideal set up for a toddler to sleep in, as it provided a dark and quiet space for a travel crib setup for mid-day naps and an early bedtime away from the game room. That, along with the great kiddie park right across the street meant that there is always a place to easily have one adult engage any kiddies in the family, while others can watch their playtime while fixing a meal in the large well-equipped kitchen, dining and living space. Add to that the charming coastal decor, three full bathrooms and washer/dryers on two levels, proximity to restaurants and shops, and I can't imagine any group that wouldn't find this rental space a perfect fit!

We had a great time staying here with family. It’s close to everything. Laurie was an awesome host. Loved the secret room!

This is a great place for a family get away to the beach!

The property was nothing like the advertisement. No where in the advertisement did it say that there was no air conditioning and four levels with four flights of stairs, with the master bedroom on the fourth level. My daughter and 3-year old granddaughter stayed on the fourth level where the temperature got to 83 degrees. My daughter had to put cold cloths on my granddaughter all night to keep her body temperature down. There was no TV on the main level by the kitchen and dining area. The main space was very small. The dishwasher did not work, nor did I get any response from the owner when I asked about it during our stay. In fact, she has ignored all of my emails, texts, and phone calls ever since our check in date. Not one response to answer any questions. The windows in the master bedroom were down to the floor. My daughter was so worried for my granddaughter's safety, so as a result, she felt she couldn't open them for fear my granddaughter may fall out four stories up. We did not see some of the prior guests reviews until after we returned. There were many earlier reviews about the dishwasher not working and about the safety of the windows. There were also, there were a lot of reviews calling out the stark contrast between the condition of the house and the stark contrast with the selected, partial pictures and complementary, but not at all accurate descriptions of the property. I hope this review can save some of you potential guests from making the mistake we did. The conditions were so bad, we had to leave a day early from this property and stay in a hotel.

Arrived exhausted following 2 long driving days, and heard sounds from upstairs, wound up being soft jazz radio music, instantly setting the tone to relax and enjoy! Beautiful view. LOVED the walkability to beach, Yaquina lighthouse, Nye Beach shops, restaurants. Home was clean and owner kind and responsive. Master bedroom / top floor space is a sweet spot to be, pics don't do it justice. 4 of us in our family, all adults now and there was plenty of room to be together or have time alone. Would easily accommodate more. Highly recommend this property.

You should get a sense of this place based on my last communication with owner and her reply at the end. I hope others don't get fooled by the slicking marketing of an old unusable relic. My statement: Good day Lauri, After getting back home yesterday and actual getting some rest I wanted to send you an email about our experience at Captain's Quarters. This was the first vacation that we took in over a year and a half and were really looking forward to it. One of the things that I was really seeking was lounge in peace in a hot tub, so when I did my searches I specifically filter that item in. Upon arriving we discovered the hot tub and checked the temperature to see if it needed to be heated more. The meter indicated that it was only at 78 degrees, so I immediately turned up the temperature gauge so we could use it later in the evening. As later in the evening arrived, the temperature was only 88 degrees. Very sad face incurred. Since there was a total of six of us, after having dinner there was a lot of dirty dishes, I did the initial cleaning and put everything in the dishwasher to discover that the dishwasher wasn't working. Sad to say, hand washing dishes (total of four loads) during the entire stay wasn't quite the vacation I was looking forward to. Since there was nothing to do because the hot tub wasn't working, the kids wanted to watch a movie in the main bedroom. After turning on the TV with one of the four remotes, the screen said another one of the remotes had "batteries were extremely low to use," so we had to scramble for batteries in replacing them with another remote to make it function. Then the next adventure began. Almost everything wasn't accessible because it required a PIN. Finally, got to something that you could watch. Fun times... Getting up the next morning I checked the hot tub, which was only at 90 degrees, so I let it run all day while we were out doing activities with the hopes that it would come to temperature. Finally, a break. When we got back to the house around 3 PM, it was up to 100 degrees. Small victory. Second time making dinner, less than half way into grilling the food, the propane take goes out. As usual we do a work around and have to finish the cooking in the oven. Hopefully, the next "suckers" won't have to worry at least during their stay. Her reply: "Sounds like you should stay in a hotel from now on."

Perfect home for a family vacation. Beautiful ocean views and access to Nye Beach community. The home, hot-tub and porches were perfect for keeping everyone happy. I would highly recommend this spot.

Our stay was overall good. The house was great, there was just a few things that did not work. The hot tub was not working properly. The dishwasher did not work. The fireplace on the kitchen floor did not work.

Great house in a perfect spot to enjoy Nye Beach District and the sandy beach. Set up with everything you need for a great vacation...just bring food! Game room would be perfect for kids to have their own space to play.

love the place! Great house with really interesting furniture and furnishings all over the place. Multiple terraces, great gas grill, good kitchen....and all a short stroll over to the beach or town.

Last minute trip to the coast spent in a quaint home....just steps from the ocean!

This was a great place for my family to relax and feel safe and happy in a fun and convenient location! My daughter loved the secret game room and the views were spectacular!!

Place is great! Game room is fun, open living space with a view of the water was great for the whole family. Loved the eclectic decor. Close to downtown and the beach so you can walk most places. Lots of thoughtful touches all through, like tons of towels (that you have to wash before leaving so save enough time for that!), hose outside to wash off sand, some basic items in the pantry (coffee!!!).

We had a wonderful time. Highly recommend. House is unique, comfortable, and in a great location. We hope to stay here again!

Enjoyed our stay, unique property close to shops and restaurants in Nye Beach. Dishwasher was broken, and second floor shower had a bad drip. But overall a good place to stay.

What a wonderful property to relax, entertain, and enjoy the finer parts of Newport, OR. We stayed through the weekend and enjoyed family, the beach, local attractions, and most of all, relaxed! The property is amazing and highly recommended to all who are looking for a great time.

That is just what this place is, go to sleep to the sounds of the ocean . Awaken to gulls! The beds here were Bette r than mine. Bar the twins, they would have been I am sure but there were no support slats to keep them from being a teeter totter. But worked when we cull take them off the frame . This place is wonderful , group of 5 women stayed to get a weekend outta the office . Clean , close to everything. Good restaurants walking distance. This unit has everything for staying entertained, the bonus room was a blast though we did not use it on this trip. We well stay here again if available! Donna .s

Families from three different places met at this beautiful spot to enjoy the Oregon coast we loved it from the moment we walked in the door so much warm. Clean. Just the right touches we will be back thank you for a wonderful experience

We very much enjoyed our stay in Lauri's home! They home had all the comforts of your own home, which made the stay very easy. The layout of the home was perfect for our group, as my husband and I were traveling with our toddler and my parents. We were able to utilize the first floor and have our own "space" with easy access to the community spaces. My parents enjoyed having the entire third floor to themselves. The beds were all very comfortable and extra blankets/sheets/pillows were lovely to have, in case. In short, this home was a great space for our group and made our quick weekend trip the coast easy. The few times that I had a question for Lauri I was able to text her and get an immediate response, which was greatly appreciated. The location of the home is ideal, as well!

Great layout for family getaways!

This was our first time at Captain's Quarters, but we will definitely be back. Beautiful home with excellent access to the beach and any of the sights in Newport. Thanks for sharing your home.

Lauri was quick to reply to any questions and was great! She helped us get a high chair and pack n play so we did not need to bring them. The park across the street is a home run and we loved it! The heating in the house took a few minutes to figure out but once we did the house was very comfortable. There are plenty of stairs as the house is vertical which some might find an issue but we did not. Beds were comfortable and the house decor was nice! The kitchen had more than you would expect from a rental, definitely set up nicely. My only complaint(which is minor) was the I was not able to watch the NCAA Mens or Womens Tournament because the cable package did not include those channels which shocked me since one was ESPN. There was plenty of viewing options just not what I wanted this particular weekend : ) Overall the house was exactly what we needed!

This was a great place we really enjoyed the stay here. The location is perfect. Its located on nye beach and if you are a walker you can walk all the way down to the bay. My family and I had a great time. We were here to celebrate my mother in-law's birthday. There is a ample space for everyone. We enjoyed the hot tub in the evenings and was able to gather around the table for family dinner. There is a park right across the street with a great slide. The kids really enjoyed it. We stayed in the winter but I would love to come back in the summer. Thanks for the stay it was very nice.

This house is everything it’s advertised to be, with excellent ocean views from every floor, private space and spaces for gathering, perfect location near the path to the beach, and comfy beds. The game room is incredible once you find it. Don’t give up, make a game out of it! We enjoyed everything in every room. We played board games in the kitchen, used the hot tub and bathtub, watched movies and played more games in the game room, and ate in every night using the well appointed kitchen. We have found our home away from home for our annual two family Christmas trip. Only suggestion would be to make the dining room chairs more comfy (like I said...hours of board games in that spot) and add a couple cozy chairs to the game room along the projector wall.
