The house was perfect for a family retreat; four bedrooms spread across 3 wings. With the leaves down in November, the views from the porch were outstanding. Both sunsets and sunrises were spectacular (Southern View). The house is situated on the top of Big Bear Pen Mountain which has a circular road around the top, so 360 degree panoramic views were enjoyed by all during a short walk. Highlands is at the bottom of the mountain, so a quick drive into town was quite easy. We were very satisfied with the owners customer service. Definitely on our radar for a return visit.

We came for a weekend getaway from Florida with our kids. Ben was great and met us at check-in. The home was beautiful and had more than enough room for our family. The deck in front of the home is massive and a great place to enjoy the cool mountain air! Shops and restaurants are only a quick drive down the mountain away. There were lots of fun things to do and see close by, like hiking trails and waterfalls.

Spacious house which allowed the family to have their own space. Very scenic views of the highlands. With the cool nights it was great to be able to have an evening fire. It is convenient to town even though it was on top of the mountain. The owners were very accommodating with the arrangements.

This vacation spot is centrally located for our family members to road trip in from various states for a summer reunion. It was absolutely perfect. The location was relaxing and picturesque. The house had all the comforts of home and had a great layout so that we could both easily come together and have our own space. We had a group of nine from ages 1 to 72, and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The town of Highlands was very quaint and friendly, and we had easy access to many sites and things to do in the area. This trip was exactly what we all needed in this crazy summer of 2020. Thank you to the owners.

Ben was very helpful and responsive! The house has a fabulous deck where we spent 90% of our time! So quiet and peaceful.

The house was perfect for our family. It is a long-ish walk to town or an easy drive (we walked several times). The views are beautiful. The yard is big enough for kids to run around in. The living room is big enough for the whole crew to play games in front of the fire. The home is clean, well appointed and comfortable. The host could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We would stay again.

The week we spent in Highlands was a wonderful family vacation !!! The house is a perfect place for a large family and small children. We enjoyed walk around the top Big Bear Pen morning and evening... The Murrays were so helpful !!! My first VRBO experience ! We will return.

Our family stayed in this beautifully decorated, well equipped home duing Thanksgiving week. The views from this home on top of Big Bear Pen Mountain are spectacular. There is so much room in the dining room, we were all able to eat together comfortably. The Murray's were so helpful and pleasant to work with in making this a very memorable holiday family vacation. The location is very conveniently located, close to town and easy driving up to the top of the mountain. Driving up and down the mountain was even easy with the 1" snowfall we woke up to on Thanksgiving morning! The Grands loved it! Hiking or long easy walks were right out the door. The wood burning fire place warmed the living room every night. It was so roomy and cozy too! Thank you Ben and Melissa for sharing your piece of heaven. We loved it.

Attractive, well laid out, and well equipped house on top of Big Bear Pen mountain. Go down the mountain and you are in downtown Highlands with excellent shopping, restaurants, etc. Great hikes, zip lines and inner tube sledding enjoyed by the more adventurous members of our family. Garage bedroom/bath offers complete privacy and quiet as well. House excellent for entertaining if you have friends in the area.

We have stayed at this property several times and always had a great time. There is a huge yard for the kids to play and the house is updated and very comfortable. The house is 2 minutes to town and has great mountain views. This is the perfect house for families.

We stayed for a weekend this fall with our family and dogs. The house is spacious and immaculate. The fron tlawn is great for kids to play and the views of the sunrise/sunset are unbelievable. We have stayed in several homes in the highlands and this one is a great find.

The pictures do not do this property justice. It is in excellent condition and very roomy. The large fireplace is perfect on cold winter nights. Our 3 young children (and lab) loved the fact that we were on the very top of the mountain and had incredible views of the sorrounding area. The downtown area is very close, but because the house is up the mountain on a gravel road (well maintained, but 4 wheel drive recommended in the winter, but not necessary as we got by without it), you feel as though you are miles from civilization. We came for New Years and snow tubed at Scaly Mountain, hiked numerous trails, sat by the fireplace and ate in town almost every night. The shopping and dining in town is excellent. The 3 bedrooms in the main house are upscale, but the one over the garage is a little dated. Not recommneded for younger children as it is seperated from the main house. Firewood was supplied for an additional fee, but it was very green and did not burn well. Other than that, our stay was perfect. It snowed 3 of the 7 days we were there and that made the experience unforgettable. I highly recommend this home and will choose it again when we return.

What a great place to hold a family reunion. We had 9 family members stay at the house very comfortably for one week. When we arrived, the house was immaculately cleaned. We had 3 cooks in the kitchen and served dinner for 11 very easily. I really enjoyed the steam sauna in the master bathroom shower. This is a very peaceful and restful vacation house atop Big Bear Pen Mountain. We will most definetly be spending our next vacation in Highlands here!
