Beautiful house in the jungle with ocean view. Santa Teresa beaches are beautiful and the village has a lot to offer. Great hosts. Rainy season has been kind to us 😊

Check in was fairly easy although we had trouble finding the place exactly until we met caretaker at the entrance. The toaster and blender were broken. The shower had no glass door, so there was a bit of a mess in the bathroom. The showers didn’t drain well , and stayed wet all day .The hammocks were not functional as both had tares in them. A few of the ceiling fans in the main room didn’t work. There was no tile or granite in the whole house and was inexpensively built. For a place that’s in Costa rica that costs that much I’d expect some tile and granite. When we arrived the pool wasn’t clean , but there was a pool skimmer there so my father and I cleaned the pool ourselves. The stove top controls were stripped and didn’t work properly , we told the caretaker and she did her best to file it down and glue it on… it took her about 30 minutes to fix it , and it still didn’t work . So we spent 30 minutes of our time waiting to cook dinner while she attempted to fix the control knobs. The caretaker and cleaners came by to clean the place and my Mom was extremely sick, we told them we didn’t need bedroom cleaned. We had no mess in the place at all as we weren’t even there but for one day so far, we were set to cook dinner on the grill and have some privacy, but they cleaned the whole place and swept and mopped taking 2 hr when we were leaving in the morning and trying to enjoy our dinner and privacy. Even spraying bug poison around house and back sliding doors..should’ve waited to clean in the am. when they finished, the pool guy showed up to clean After we already cleaned it ourselves twice the day before and that morning! Why wasn’t pool clean before we arrived?! He was there for 30min, this was right during sunset . My father and I were sitting at the pool trying to meditate and have privacy. There aren’t any laundry facilities as specified on website. There are machines but it’s for the caretaker and maid only . They stay locked up. The caretaker was out front taking and doing laundry all day long. So we never ever had any privacy at all in the place. It rained at night the first night and we noticed how clogged the gutters were as they were overflowing with water in various areas. The morning of our first and only full day there , I was laying out at the pool trying to relax after I had to clean the pool myself , then the neighbor across the street started playing their drums extremely loud and for hours too, so no relaxation for me!

Serene, peaceful and breathtaking view
We spent 2 weeks at the sunset house, was a bit challenging to find but once you get your bearings you appreciate the location. You will need a car or atv while staying here. The beach is a 9 min drive from the place and there are 2-3 restaurateurs near the beach that we visited. It's about 15 mins to Santa Teresa or about 20 mins to the center of town. Everything you need is on the 4km strip from Santa Teresa to El Carmen. The town is filled with restaurants, bars, groceries stores etc. It can get loud in certain areas which makes the sunset house a great escape but close enough to enjoy the amenities. There were a few issues during our stay which are common in Costa Rica with power or water outages but the property manager Soraya is fantastic and the cleaner Janice who lives on the property is great. The view makes any issues no big deal. We will definitely stay here again.

beautiful place except bugs in bedrooms
The property location was about 15 min from town which we did learn to love! The communication with the property manager was great and the daily cleaner was a treat. However, we showed up for our honeymoon on our first night and the place was infested with bugs. They are attracted to light so it made night time really uncomfortable to be at the place. For as much as we paid to stay for 5 nights, we expected to spend a couple evenings at our place cooking dinner and that did not happen. I understand we’re in the rainforest where bugs are prevalent but they were everywhere inside the bedrooms and it truly made my time less enjoyable.

Can't Wait to Come Back!
Absolutely stunning home with a BEAUTIFUL view! The property manager was incredible. After getting lost (GPS stopped working) Soraya was kind enough to send someone to personally guide us to the home as it was after dark. Janet the housekeeper was amazing. Our two young boys loved her and Tuko the dog! We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing, beautiful home to stay at while in Santa Teresa. Thank you again!

Great stay
Amazing experience. Property manager and groundskeeper went the extra mile to make our stay memorable. Only caveat is the proximity to what I assume is another rental on the property. It might be 10’ away. We had no issues, but could be a problem with loud guests. Great place overall and would/will stay here again.

Get lost in the forest
It’s a bit far from the center but you learn to appreciate it. The jungle in amazing, you just have to plan your daily schedule right and memorize the directions! The house is amazing, the view is just there as and the crew is very nice

Sunset Stay
The home is clean and open. Janet did an awesome job with daily cleaning and answering any questions as did the property manager. Definitely need a 4x4. The beach at Manzanillo is a great beach for running and walking. Santa Theresa has a lot of restaurants and shopping but can be really busy.

Quaint neighborhood in Santiago
A lovely, well equipped casa. Far enough away from the hustle of the main strip but easily accessible 15 minute drive by car. We loved our time here.

Wonderful place
Loved the modern and open feel to the house. There's a great view and loved the overall design. Soraya provided many helpful references for activities and Janeth (the housekeeper) was super friendly and even lent us some coffee, sugar, salt and pepper which we had forgotten to bring along. I would (and hopefully will!) return without hesitation.

Wonderful escape
Beautiful and very functional property about 15-20 minutes from the center of Santa Teresa. Soraya was extremely accommodating and Jeanette, who cleans, is incredibly nice and does a great job. Soft beds, fully equipped kitchen, clean pool, AC - everything you could ask for in Santa Teresa.

Excellent stay
We stayed here for 6 nights and since it was our first time to Costa Rica we didn’t know what to expect. This place was not easy to find and in the rainy season, we got stuck with our car for a while before we were able to make it, but the adventure was absolutely worth it. The property managers were amazing. Jannette is coming in daily to clean the house and they all did everything to accommodate us. This house is not too far from one of the most beautiful beaches and the view was stunning, check out @jaqueline_bello_
Jannett ended up babysitting our 15 month old daughter and she was super low key about the payments. We ended up paying her about 12 dollars for the sitting so my husband and I could get some time to ourselves.
I think the place is ideal for a couple or a family even though one has to be careful with insects.
We had scorpions in the house twice and we also made friends with a tarantula.
You need to know you will be in nature and you have to relax your mind around that. It’s beautiful and stunning.
The house doesn’t have a TV, ideal for people who like to relax and read in the evening or who are early risers. We found it perfect and would always come back. Thank you for a perfect first stay 🙏

House in Paradise
This house is absolutely beautiful! Everything was kept sparkling clean by Jannette, the housekeeper. The view is stunning especially at sunset! Next to the house you can see howler monkeys and birds everywhere. The garden is well kept and adds to the charm of the place. Yes you will need 4x4 but it's worth it and it's nice to be away from the dust of Santa Theresa. We hope to come back! Thank you for an amazing vacation!

Private Paradise
Everything at this vacation property is perfect!! It’s set up on a hill overlooking the ocean with amazing sunsets from your private pool and the great room which has hammocks for lounging in and comfortable couches to relax on. The villa is modern and super clean. It is well equipped with all the amenities as at home. We cooked most of our suppers there with the use of the BBQ and stovetop. It lacks nothing. The property caretaker is on site and keeps everything extra clean for you. As guests you would never know Janet was there. Janet did an amazing job with anything and everything we needed. She gave us clean pool towels and beach towels daily, bath towels and kitchen linens as needed. Beds were meticulously made every day and the entire villa was cleaned daily. She was very informative about the wildlife on the property and told us about the monkeys. Brush up on your Spanish as she doesn’t speak English. She was very patient with my broken Spanish. Thank you Janet for everything. The property manager, Soraya was also very helpful sending email communication in regards to the location and any other questions we had about the property. She was very good with returning emails quickly. The property owner Pete was very easy to talk to and to help with anything. Both Soraya and Pete are very prompt to answer and discuss any questions you might have. If you are in Santa Teresa, this is a “must stay” vacation property. Thank you for a fantastic visit!!

Everything you could want in a holiday home.
First and foremost, I must say that Sunset House was exactly as advertised. The photos online were accurate. Stunning view, clean, fresh pool, amazing sliding doors to let in the outdoors. Everything is in good, working order.
Lots of hot water with good pressure, all dishes, cooking items and cutlery in excellent condition. I could go on but you catch my drift. Everything, from first booking our stay to our farewell was over and above our expectations. I would give it a 5 star plus if I could.
If planning to go down to the beach and shops, you will definitely require a vehicle. It is a 15-20 min drive along a very dusty and rough (in some spots) road. This may seem like a drawback but it is also a plus since the distance also keeps you up in the hills, away from the congestion of the beach area. The air is fresh and clean and the location is quiet and private, things that are on our "must have" list when searching for a holiday home.
This is our 5th trip to Cost Rica and we find Sunset House to be our favorite spot. We will definitely be returning. We honestly couldn't have been happier with our stay. A big thank you to Pete the owner, Soraya the property manager, and Janet the housekeeper. You are a great team!

Dream vacation
The location was really peaceful. It is a bit far from the main street so you have to rent a car or a ATV to get there but believe me it is all worth it. This was the best placed I stayed in Costa Rica for sure. It was so clean and we were all taken care of by the concierge. I really recommend this house for a peaceful vacation and if you like being surrounded by nature, this is the perfect spot!

Love to come back again
If you are looking for an off the beaten track get away with all the comforts of home, this place cracks all the boxes. Very spectacular spot with views of the Pacific, birds, beach, waves and great food. I can’t ask for anything more. And all the reviews about the roads are NOT exaggerated. We chickened our bad used the long way to get here. Feel very privileged.

Simply luxurious
This house is beautiful and on a larger scale than it appears in the photos. It’s quite a drive from Sta. Theresa, but the road is decent by Costa Rican standards. The beds are super comfortable, the pool perfect for cooling down - but we were reminded we were in the jungle when a splash washed a tarantula out from it’s hiding spot! The only negative to this house is the closeness of the house next door, which is only separated by a few plants, and we had some noisy neighbours! A wall between the two would help. Other than that, we loved it.

Confort, peace, cows.
Loved staying here, away from the hustle and bustle of Santa Teresa, while close enough to Playa Hermosa to enjoy the beach. Comfortable beds, great AC, perfect for 2 couples as the house has a common area, and 2 identical rooms and bathrooms on either side. Really peaceful. Note: It says it sleeps up to 6, though that would likely require 2 people to sleep on the couch without AC and have to wade through others' rooms to get to the bathroom.

Small Town
We moved the property and could have spent a few more days there. The town was a little too small for us with not a ton of food options or things to do. Everyone there was extremely friendly and helpful.

Pacific paradise
Our 5-day stay was incredible - such a lovely house with everything we needed. Howler monkeys, beautiful flora, abundant fauna and incredible Pacific views. Certainly one of the nicest houses I’ve ever stayed in. It was quite the trip up dirt roads to get there - but no problems with the rented 4-wheel drive Suzuki or the 4x4 ATV rented for a day of fun. Santa Teresa/Mal Pais was a great spot to make day trips to Montezuma Falls, Mal Pais canopy tour, horse riding on the beach etc. Thank you for your gracious hospitality!!

Peaceful and beautiful spot
- The house is simply and beautifully designed; everything you need, very relaxing, airy/open (kitchen, grill and pool worked perfectly for us, with 3 young kids)
- Janette was super nice and helpful
- We enjoyed the howler monkeys and the birds; beautiful trees
- If you plan on getting into Santa Teresa everyday, the drive on dirt road gets a bit long...
- Overall, we had a wonderful stay

Namaste!
Beautiful property and wonderful surroundings! We loved the house! Simply take note that the ride to the house is a little journey as the road is not paved with lots of bumps and holes. You absolutely need a 4X4! Count a good 20 minutes to get to the Village of Santa Teresa, a super little surf town buzzing with little shops, great restaurants, beautiful beaches and simply just a great young vibe!

Fabulous retreat!
We had an amazing time at the house during our stay. The house was a Tropical Modern design dream. It was beautiful, clean and airy with daily house keeping. We spent the morning and the evening in the pool and cooking breakfast and dinners on the grill . We would highly recommend this for people that want an escape for Sant Teresa. Perfect location for the Playa Hermosa Surf beach.

Ideal relaxing home.
This was my 3rd trip to Santa Teresa/Playa Hermosa and I've made a point of trying different locations to get a feel for the area. Sunset house is by far my favourite property. It's out of town so you would need a car but for me the house is so special that its worth the effort and regardless of where you are in Santa Teresa, a car is a good idea.
Two of my favourite beaches from surfing in Santa Teresa are Rocamar and Playa Hermosa and both are less than 15 minutes drive from the house.
I couldn't recommend this property any more. I travel 3 months a year and frequently use home and away, and Airbnb and Sunset house is in my top 3 properties.

Modern luxurious getaway in paradise (off the beaten path)
We just returned after a wonderful 6 day first ever trip to Costa Rica. Met by management in Santa Teresa and escorted up to the house. The house was stunning; modern, clean, well appointed with an unobstructed amazing view to the ocean (yes, you can hear the waves..) Note - we were there at the beginning of the rainy season (May 1st-6th) - the temperatures were in the 90's with high humidity. The bedrooms have wonderful AC units but the remainder of the house does not and is open to the elements (bug screens on all windows). We retreated to the bedroom after enjoying a dip in the pool, watching the sunset with a glass of wine and dinner (kitchen has everything you need) to stay comfortable as the temperature doesn't really change once the sun goes down.
Soraya and Janet took great care of us - Soraya was always quick to respond with any questions we had, recommendations for activities and restaurant bookings. Janet kept the house immaculate and did our laundry for a small fee (wonderful perk mid trip). The only issue was hot water in the shower - lack of water pressure and hot water made for a quick cool shower each morning - small inconvenience all things considered (Soraya mentioned the install of a pump soon to fix the pressure issue). The screens make for some interesting house guests - small lizard, very large frog and a scorpion. All ushered outside..
A few tips and impressions from our first ever trip to the area.
Rent a 4x4 vehicle - the paved roads are very smooth, the unpaved are ridged, steep, pot-holed, slow and dusty. Get GPS
Santa Teresa - great restaurants (Mary's, Chicken Joe's, The Bakery, Koji's) the Super Rony #2 grocery has everything you need, the Green Store has great produce.
The beaches are beautiful and easy to access. Drinks at Pranamar for happy hour, Daily yoga ($15 drop in fee) with Amy hearing the waves, not to be missed.
The town itself was challenging as traffic (ATV's, motorbikes, pedestrians) weave along an unpaved road - be patient.
Great trip to Curu Wildlife refuge for Isla Tortuga boat trip, snorkeling and secluded beach (very reasonable price) the white faced monkeys near the parking were a highlight
Waterfalls in Montezuma were also a must.
Liberia airport is 4+ hour drive, starts on smooth paved roads, but deteriorates quickly to unpaved dirt roads of various conditions, The return leg was more direct but involved 2 river crossings (remember the 4x4 vehicle advice).

Looks are NOT deceiving!
When you see the photos, you're like "Wow!" Then you look at the price per night and you're like "hmmm." Well, I don't know how else to put it, but the Sunset House is one of those rare gems in life that seems too good to be true, and yet it is. The house is beautiful. The view, stunning (almost as stunning as the people in Santa Teresa). The town, charming. The restaurants, amazing! The people, apart from stunning, friendly. My wife and I are already talking about returning (assuming they fix the showers - more on that below).
So why not 5 stars you ask? Our one gripe, which is a pretty major one, is that the rain showers really don't have hot water. The sinks do, but in both showers the hot water pressure is so weak, that it's like trying to take a shower with the condensation on the side of a glass of water. So, after a week of cold showers I would say docking just one star is pretty fair.
Oh, and just to confirm, as others have, All-Wheel drive is essential.

Great Hideaway
Beautiful, newly constructed private home with pool. Off the beaten path with gorgeous views! Felt so fortunate to be able to spend a few days here. Janet is a wonderful Caretaker and Soraya is an amazing Concierge. Soraya went above and beyond to assist our needs (had a flat tire with our rental car - the agency would do nothing to help). Highly recommend! Thanks you!!

We stayed at Sunset House for four nights and the only complaint is we were not able to book for a longer stay. The house is amazing. We were traveling to get away from everything, so we barely left the house.

What a beautiful property with a gorgeous view. Just love the open architecture of this house. Jeannette and Soraya were very attentive and responsive. The pool is always a perfect temperature, and the bumpy ride to the property just added to the adventure. Playa Hermosa is down the hill about 0.7 of a mile and a gorgeous beach. Surfing lessons from Fernando were terrific. My husband is hooked. Santa Teresa has such a cool vibe. Would have liked large beach towels and a beach umbrella provided as these items are hard to lug from the US. Other than that, loved everything about this vacation! Pura Vida!
5.0 / 10.0
We absolutely loved our stay. From the customer service to the cleanliness and the view.
Things to Know:
The property is somewhat shared but still very private. (there is a massive hedge but you can still see and somewhat hear the house next to you. it definitely felt very private)
It has a fully equipped kitchen to make nearly anything you want (no microwave but that might be a CR thing)
The house is about 15 minutes up the road, but they show you how to get there, and it actually becomes part of the adventure.
It is a great romantic getaway or fun family house that seals off completely the two bedrooms (we were worried about bugs but had absolutely none) and has two giant sliding screen doors to seal off the family room if needed.
The two giant hammocks absolutely made my trip.
It's extremely relaxing and is located close enough to town to go out at night, eat great food, and enjoy the surf.
The welcome kit gives great suggestions on things to do, places to eat, and great tourist experiences (like sunset horseback riding or massages on the beach - both of which we did and loved!).

First of all, we love Costa Rica and this house topped it off for us. You can read and believe all previous comments made about this place. After spending the day on the beaches, this was such a peaceful place to enjoy the quiet with a beautiful sunset every night. The housekeeper, Janet, was so sweet and did an awesome job keeping the place spotless. She was helpful when we had questions about various things. This is a perfect get away place that I wasn’t ready to leave.
