Wonderful week! Pool for the kids, hot tub, one house from beach, quiet neighborhood and the owner was in frequent communication to make sure all was well.

We had a lovely, relaxing time at What the Shell! This house had everything we could possibly need. It was very clean and comfortable. We loved the easy access to beach. The pool and the hot tub were great when we didn’t want to get sandy. Lots of great places to eat with a short drive. I would love to stay here again. The only thing I missed were bike paths.

Our week was excellent, Anne was very easy to communicate with and the home was clean and as advertised. The location was excellent, a short walk to the beach. Many eateries and markets around to keep us well fed and stocked with necessities. We want to come back in the future. Frisco and Hatteras Village are uncrowded and that added to our wonderful trip.

Our family loved this property! Having 3 kids of varying ages the pool was a huge hit. Amenities were the best I have seen in a rental property...EVERYTHING we needed and then some. The home was super clean upon arrival and Anne, the owner, had left us an amazing gift bag including a kite, makings for s'mores and a nice bottle of wine. The dune over to the ocean is a little steep and I only mention that for folks with toddlers as our 3 year old struggled a little. We highly recommend What The Shell...amazing family vacation! Perfect just says it all. The location is perfect. The house has a wonderful layout and is clean and well stocked. Anne is the best host/owner I've ever dealt with. She's so responsive and helpful. This is our second stay in this home and will for sure be back!

In the middle of the week my sister in law and brother in law and their 3 young kids also joined us for a few days. The house was well accommodating and we ended up packing more than we needed, as the house already had it supplied. We loved how close it was to walk over the dune to the beach. The Frisco beach was serene and we enjoyed the warm ocean waters in early October. My husband also enjoyed surf fishing out on the beach. We enjoyed our morning breakfast views out on the deck and we loved relaxing in the hot tub at night. We were also able to easily get in touch with Anne regarding any questions we had. We had such a great time and we definitely plan on returning.

We are so lucky to have found What the Shell. The property feels like a home, not just a rental. We love to cook and this is the first rental we’ve had that was fully stocked with kitchen gadgets. It was also great for our group with four young children — there was a high chair and plenty of games. Anne is a wonderful host — she reached out early on and was available for any questions, big or small. The location was awesome too—close enough to the beach to run back to the house when needed. The area is quiet and peaceful — just what we needed as we are still being very careful with social distancing. We are already planning to go back!

It was our First time in Frisco and loved this quaint little town. “What the Shell” is a beautiful cozy beach house that had every amenity that you would need. The kitchen was equipped to to handle all our food and beverage preparation needs! The house was spotless. The pool and hot tub was used almost everyday! The view and the breeze was so relaxing. Our host indulged is with complimentary ingredients to make s’mores on the beach! She made feel comfortable as though we were family staying at her house and was readily available to answer our questions. There were 7 of us that were very comfortable in this spacious beach house. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this beautiful rental!

Our group of 8 wanted for absolutely nothing in this incredible home. It had all the touches of comfort and convenience that we could ever hope for, and all in a welcoming environment just steps from the ocean. Some beach houses are overly kitschy or chintzy with the accommodations and decor, but What the Shell felt warm and cozy while having all of the modern details of an updated home-including a beautiful master bath, comfortable beds (and we are picky about our beds), a perfect sized pool and a hot tub. The owner was amazing with her communication, both long before the arrival date and throughout the week of our stay. The entire house was well stocked to the point that we really only had to bring food and beach towels-which is entirely unheard of in a rental. We were reluctant to leave this home and look forward to returning again.

While we were quite disappointed to not get to stay thanks to the mandatory evacuation, Anne did all she possibly could to have her home ready for us. She made a trip from her home to check for damages and have the house ready for us. She kept us informed every step of the way. We would definitely considering renting with Anne again. I’m sure What the Shell is a great vacation home!

Everything was perfect. The location, the house, the pool were just as described. It was especially nice that the kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, spices, trash bags....

Dont hesitate to book this house! The location was great, pool was awesome, house was perfect. Most well stocked kitchen I've ever experienced in a vrbo rental. Communication directly with owner was prompt and friendly. I think you get such better service than going through a rental that uses a management company. There were so many little extra things and touches here and there. It was the perfect rental for our multi family trip!

We really enjoyed our stay at what the shell. The house was exactly like it was described on the web. Anne was wonderful to work with. She always responded very promptly when we had a question. We hope to stay there again soon.

My family stayed at What The Shell in September 2018. We vacation on the Outer Banks every year, typically on Hatteras and have stayed in various beach houses throughout the years. What The Shell was by far the best house we’ve visited. It is incredibly clean, well appointed and comfortable. We enjoyed the ocean views and close proximity to the beach. The owner, Anne, was incredibly helpful and a wealth of information about the area. We’re very hopeful that we can make it back next summer!

Property is exactly as described, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We were two familes of four with young kids and there was ample space for all. The property is very well maintained, the location is a perfect distance from the beach, and the house has all the ammenities and equipment needed to enjoy a week in the sun. The kids had so much fun in the pool, it offered a great way to end each day at the beach and provided a nice alternative to the ocean on the day it was a bit too windy on the beach to swim. The hot tub is very nice and is well situated on the second level patio with close proximity to the bedrooms. The upper level patio offers a great view of the ocean, has very comfy furniture, and even has a sheltered eating area that was perfect for sitting and having an early morning coffee or an outside meal. We loved the location, the beach was beautiful, the property was excellent, the rental process seamless, and the owner was responsive and easy to correspond with. Thanks Anne for providing us your lovely home for our week at the Outerbanks!

Our 1st time at the beach house, we have been staying at the canal house for better than ten years!! I am loving this house and the convenience of the beach being just over the dune. The house is fabulous, could not ask for anything more beautiful!!

We stayed in What The Shell a few years ago, loved it then and loved it even more this time. The owner thinks of everything you could possibly want in a vacation home. Clean, well stocked kitchen, very comfortable beds, fantastic view of the ocean and a pool that is one of nicest we have seen. Very short walk to the beach where we fished every day. One of the nicest things is the gift bag that is there upon your arrival. There was wine, fudge and even a little bag of beach toys for our grandson. So thoughtful! Can not wait to stay again next year.
