Easter weekend family gathering!

My family and I stayed here for state wrestling. My husband and I have 5 children. Two are married and each couple has had their first child. So we had a total of 11 humans staying at the lodge. The best part was the amount of privacy each couple and family unit could have. Each room had its own private bath with the exception of a 2 bedroom unit upstairs that shared a bathroom. The property was very large and could accommodate many people in rooms and baths, but it left a lot to be desired for social time and fellowship. The kitchen is not very large and the dining rooms are split between one side of the house and the other. The living room area only had enough seats for 4 people. Not a good thing when the home can hold upwards of 14 people. The home also had a lot of unfinished projects and felt choppy with a dining room table in front of a beautiful interior fireplace with an additional fridge in what I would consider a living room area. Maybe if they flipped the dining room table where the living room furniture is, they could add a lot more living room furniture around the beautiful interior fireplace. It also had a very nice exterior fireplace, which we used even though it was pretty cold.

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with most of our children and grandchildren. The lodge was an excellent place to do so. We had plenty of room, lots of bathrooms and the manager was helpful and fun. We recommend the lodge to everyone!

Hiking, biking, fishing, bison auction, and family time. PERFECT!

For all kinds of reasons it's hard to get together for holidays, or through out the year, so once a year we pick a weekend. We really enjoyed our time together as a family, and the lodge was big enough for all of us!! Comfortable, relaxing, fun, quiet, warm, just everything about it was great!! The manager Mathew was so friendly and easy to work with.

We had such an amazing time. The lodge was everything and more than we had hoped for. We each had our own rooms most with attached bathrooms. Matthew was such an awesome host. He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and if we had any questions. The setting was so beautiful an peaceful - we came to relax, unwind and have fun -which is exactly what we got. It is close to so many attractions - there just wasn't enough hours in a day. If we end up in the Hills again for another girls getaway - we will most definitely book here again.

This was our 2023 Girls' Hiking Trip - 13 women stayed and with one or two blow-up mattresses, most had a queen bed to themselves. Glorious. 6.5 bathrooms eliminated waiting lines - even better. The roof top hot tub was packed each evening and the fact that management changes the water between visiting groups was much appreciated. Our host met us upon arrival to explain everything and was very quick to respond to the request for more kitchen towels. The only problem we encountered - Fall brings cool weather and, looking for warmth, some yellow jackets found their way in. Fly swatters and bug spray addressed the issue. We declined the offer to have the lodge "bombed" due to all the food we had in the area of concern (dining room). Our host agreed to delay that option until we departed. Mickelson Trail Lodge is so nicely located - no city lights to lessen the majesty fo the night skies, convenient to Hill City, Custer SP, Jewel Cave, Mt Rushmore and the trails that we enjoyed in conjunction with each of these locations. Internet is a bit sketchy, especially with so many guests at once, but one could usually locate a spot for reception. Overall - wonderful.

I can not brag enough about the management company. Matthew went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. He answered our every need and even gave us great sight seeing ideas. We would definitely consider booking this house again in the future.

The pros to this house is the location number one. Matthew is very accommodating, the hot tub and the pool were perfect temperatures always kept filled with water. The outside fireplace was something we all enjoyed. The cons for us were some of the shelving in the refrigerator is gone. The kitchen is very small and there was no space to put food for a week for 12 people. The hot tub lid was disintegrating, and overall cleanliness was just not what we have been used to, and when they say there is limited Wi-Fi and phone service believe it The only phone that worked in our party was a flip phone. What I think this place needs is just a little bit of TLC and again I cannot tell you how absolutely a beautiful location it is in.

Great location when staying in South Dakota. We had a group of 16 and there was plenty of space for all of us. The heated pool and hot tub were awesome, the kids loved it. Nice and close to Hill City. Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse less then 30 minutes away. Great place!! Friendly owners. Never had any issues.

The house was amazing and was the favorite part of our trip for many of our kids. They loved the pool and the hot tub!! It is in a beautiful area! We Hope to return someday and stay in the same place!

We had a great family reunion at this lodge with ages ranging from 5 to 75. Rooms were comfortable and we had everything we needed for our stay. Matthew and his staff were attentive and their communication was great. The big surprise was the pool heated! That was such a nice addition for the cool nights. I highly recommend.

Awesome place to stay! Lots of room and lots of bathrooms, the pool and hot tub were big hits! No washer/dryer to use… Amenities were great! Fireplace was another big hit! Will definitely be staying here again! Matt was amazing!

We had a wonderful week at the property. 13 total stayed and it was very comfortable - 6 adults and 7 kiddos. Would highly recommend! Laundry at the facility would have made it even better. Internet is spotty just an FYI. We appreciated being disconnected but if your needing to check in to work,school or anything it’s not a strong connection.

Great location - secluded but close enough to Hill City etc. Hot tub view was amazing. Pool is smaller than it looks, but it's heated and the kids enjoyed it. The house worked great for multiple families and kids of various ages. Would stay there again!

It was an easy experience from the start. We arrived at the property and met by the host. He answered questions and gave us guidelines and ideas. The lodge was as promised and we had a great stay.

We had our entire family here for Christmas and there was plenty of room. We loved each having our bedroom and bathrooms. The hot tub was amazing. It was very clean and inviting. There were two coffee makers and plenty of pots and pans.

This cabin was so fun! We were always finding something new that just amazed us! It was perfect for our friends getaway now that some have started their own families. From the little kids play nook to the view from that hot tub! They were very great to book with too! Great all around!
