We were told as we arrived a basement bedroom carpet had been shampooed and was not completely dry. Were told the room was usable, the carpet should be dry soon.
As we entered the house, the smell of damp/mildew coming up through the basement stairwell was immediately noticeable. In the main rec. room area of the basement the smell was strong. The damp air was uncomfortable. The bedroom carpet described as “damp” from shampooing was saturated with water and the smell/feel of dampness in that room and the attached bathroom was intolerable. Visible water stains in the ceiling, on the furniture ,along the baseboard of the room. Closet door in that bedroom was too swollen to open/close and was rottting from the bottom up. The saturated rug and damp/mildew smell could NOT have resulted from a shampoo as we'd been told. The smell /dampness permeated the entire basement.
Called Ashley to express my dismay and was told she had just been in the house and thought the basement smelled “clean”. Repeatedly said she had no knowledge of any flood/leak and had nothing to “disclose”. She refused to adjust the rental price to compensate for the unusable basement and told me we could cancel our stay and find another house if we wanted. No chance of that on Labor day weekend! Honorable business people take responsibility when things go wrong and try to make it right. This company was not honest with us and did absolutely nothing to try to make the situation right

We had an amazing stay at the second wind lake house! The views and atmosphere were simply amazing! The house was super clean and well maintained. They even had a ton of cooking supplies, dishes and toiletries that lasted the entire weekend. My only complaint was that none of the bedrooms had televisions which made it difficult if you weren’t sleepy right away! The internet connection wasn’t that great either but overall I would definitely visit again!

Spent the week of July 4th at the house and had a great experience. We had 3 generations and 16 total people including 7 kids. The house was a perfect fit for our needs. The listing is accurate and the house looked just like the pics. The house is very well equipped, especially in the kitchen. The beds were comfortable. It’s the first house we’ve stayed at in the last 5 years that didn’t get bed complaints. The host is very responsive and helpful. AC in house works great as well, even in 95 degree heat. The lake is amazing and the house is so close to the mountains. The water is so clear it feels tropical.
The dock is great. It’s not brand new by any means but it functioned perfectly and our group received zero splinters and zero slips. We’ve had both on docks that have been more recently updated/painted and really appreciate how well this dock worked out. I tied my 27’ boat up all week and had no issues. The slide and diving board were big hits as well. There’s a red switch to turn water on for the slide.
There’s plenty of parking. Our 5 vehicles plus my trailer fit just fine. Turning the trailer around was a bit of a challenge but, in fairness, it always is.
No house is perfect but this was our favorite one of the 5 we’ve stayed at with this group.

Easy access to lake with large deck (not the steep accesses so many have). Our 9th family gathering on SML and the 5th different location - and now the family favorite. While not "luxury" it felt like home and had plenty spaces and comfort.
The "4 bedroom / Sleeps 8" listing is far from accurate. The details show 7 BRms (accurate) and easily slept 16.
Already booked next year's gathering here.

This house was spacious and AMAZING! It was the perfect fit for our family as we enjoyed a mini vacation celebrating our daughter’s graduation from Liberty University! (us plus grandparents and aunt & uncle) There was so much for everyone to do here! Between swimming in the lake right off the private dock, using the slide and diving board, paddleboating, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, and fishing, we had hours of fun and entertainment in the sun. Then ended the day with a campfire along the lake! (house has a fire pit!) The views from every large window in the house is absolutely stunning! We cooked every meal there in the large, spacious, and well equipped kitchen! The large dining area facilitated well for memorable meals as all 14 of us gathered for meals! All of the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean; towels, and bedding were freshly washed. The pool table and foosball table provided additional fun and entertainment when a break was needed from the sunshine! We have stayed at a lot of VRBO places, and this is, by far, one of our favorites!

We were a party of 12 adults each having different cleanliness requirements and expectations. Some of us have higher standards for cleanliness than others but all of us believed that this house needed some TLC , minor maintenance repairs, and an owner who demanded more of her cleaning crew or was more aware of the less than stellar cleaning job currently being done. Having said that, the house is a great home with big rooms for gathering and beautiful views from the home and from the outside decks and docks. A very peaceful environment. The rental binder was never found during our stay and so we had to contact the owner many times for answers to questions that would typically be in that binder. She did respond eventually but not as fast as my past experiences would indicate.

we loved the large house, amenities, swimming off the dock and the paddle boats! We also loved having the second fridge downstairs for snacks/ drinks. We would absolutely book this house for another stay!

Yes, it did have seven bedrooms and five bathrooms. It was listed as a "luxury property". Smith Mountain Lake was wonderful. The neighborhood was great. However, the house had mice and mouse poop everywhere (not evident until Tuesday as the mice got bolder). Ants trailing in and out of the fireplace. The property was soooo run down and poorly maintained. The bedding (especially pillows) old, flat and frankly worn out. The mattresses need to be replaced (putting a 1 inch foam pad on top is not the solution). The decks and particularly the dock needs to be replaced/repaired. The property may have been renewed and refreshed initially, however due to heavy use it requires more than a once in a lifetime investment. Everything is done as cheaply as possible. Even the hand soap in the bathrooms is watered down. The decor is terrible (old air freshener is not decoration!). No furniture matches. Property is in desperate need of power washing, window washing, spider web removal and repairs. VRBO this is NOT a "luxury" property and frankly is hurting your reputation. Total fee for ONE WEEK is over $10,000 and vastly overpriced for what you get!

We had our family and extended family here for a week. The house and location were great. There were a few small issues, however none of those would cause us to not stay again in the future or not recommend it for others to stay. We had people from 55 to 2 and all had a good time.

We had our family of 12 there for a week. The house was very spacious (lots of areas to hang out) and very well equipped. The dock was huge and the outdoor amenities (slide, diving board, swing set) were great for the kids. We had a wonderful time. Thanks!

We had a group of 13 ranging in age from 2 mos to 62 years. Everyone enjoyed the stay. There was plenty of room for the kids to play and even though we stayed in the winter, there was plenty to do and no one got bored. We are hoping to return in the summer to take full advantage of all this property has to offer.

The property was great! Very relaxing and homey. The bedrooms were private in their own way - being down 2 different halls on the main floor and then the ones in the basement. Plenty of space for various vehicles. The view was amazing!

Great property for our annual couples gathering. Great layout - lots of space. Ample parking. Responsive Host. What's not to like? We like trying different geographic areas - but we would definitely stay here again if going to SML.

Great home for a large group
Overall the place was great and had everything we needed. The house is showing some wear and tear, but that is too be expected of a rental to that caters to large groups. The game room kept everyone entertained, the dock was amazing and there was ample space for everyone to hang out. One thing I wish the home had was more cutlery, seemed we had to wash forks and knives after every meal. Outside of that we had what was needed for a great stay.

Beautiful Lake Rental
Often times adjustments are required if property sleeps 20, but don't know too many that enjoy sleeping on a pull out for a week. This beautiful home rental for our family get-together, had beds for everyone and plenty of living space for 20 ranging in age from 70's to 8 months. we had a great time but much too short. Hope to be back in 2023.

First Time Family Gathering
This property is wonderful, plenty of space, things to do and lots of bedrooms and baths. Kitchen is awesome, enjoyed football on Sunday on Directv. Everyone loved it and stayed busy. This property offer inside and outside games. We are a ping pong family, so we loved the table. Thank you for having such a lovely place and sharing with us. Well worth it. Might be back next year.

Great House for Large Family!
Overall we had a wonderful stay here, and would definitely come back. The dock was so big and had plenty of space for our group of 15!
Inside, there was plenty of space for everyone with the exception of the living room - for such a large house I would expect to have more seating options. The living room was large, but could only comfortably seat 5-6 adults.
We had a great trip, the lake is beautiful. The cove where the house sits is peaceful and not too busy. Our kids loved the slide and diving board.

Great stay
The house was spotlessly clean and the location on a relatively quiet cove was great. The dock with its large covered area was our home base most days. We recommend that you bring camp chairs if you’re going to hang out on the dock since the only seating are 2 picnic tables (which we definitely used). The 11 of us ranged in ages from 1 to 83, and access to the dock area was easy for everyone. The kids loved the slide and we successfully fished from the dock and the canoe provided. The kitchen is relatively well stocked, and has top-notch appliances, but as with all rentals, you should bring your own knives if you’re going to seriously prep food. Also, the silverware is inadequate; only 12 forks for a house that sleeps 18. Further, there are no large serving bowls and only 1 large platter, which made it awkward to feed a crowd. Final nit: there is no interior space on the main level (where the kitchen is) to store garbage between trips to the dump. But these points are minor. Overall, we loved the house and it’s convenient location. The White House store is only 5 minutes away and had most things we needed (as we had brought in most of our own food), including awesome fried chicken. We all agreed that a return trip is in order. Thanks, Ashley, for sharing your home with us!

This home is spacious and decorated beautifully. We rented as a family but we think it would be a beautiful setting for either a small business or church retreat.

Excellent
We thoroughly enjoyed this property. The grandchildren spent most of their time on the slide and at the dock. Couldn’t have had a better place to stay. There were two problems and they were the tv and the dogs next door tearing out the garbage

My group loved this house - its amenities and its closeness to the water. While there are finishes that aren't our style, this is a great place to stay.

Great Family Trip
We had such a great time in Smith Mountain Lake! We went for the wine festival and to spend time with family that we don't get to see enough. It was a perfect house for us. Plenty of rooms for 14 people. We had 10 adults and 4 children and everyone had plenty of space.
The kids loved the lake (so did the big kids).
We cooked out Saturday night and the kitchen had everything we needed to handle the sides and to cook breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings. Plenty of table space so we all could sit together like we used to at our grandparents many years ago!
We had a great time, the area and house is very nice. Would recommend the location and house to anyone and we will use again for any future visits to the area!

Amazing week at SML!
Our family has been vacationing at Smith Mountain Lake for the last 5 years, and this year's experience was the best yet! This home is perfect for families, and the moderate slope to the dock was especially nice for our parents who both walk with canes. There is so much to do at the house there is really no reason to leave. The kids enjoyed the slide and diving board at the dock, as well as the paddle boards and kayak! Game room provided lots of entertainment as well. This home is beautiful and in a great location, relatively quiet cove near no wake zone. We had great view of July 4th fireworks festivities right from the dock, and the following night with a short boat ride to Mitchell's Point. Experienced an issue on our 2nd day with the upstairs A/C, which was resolved in less than 24 hours after we notified the owner.
Our family was so pleased with the stay we are already looking to reserve for next year!! Highly recommend this property !!

It was so beautiful, clean and spacious.
There were 8 of us staying in this beautiful home. Each of us having our own bedroom. You could view the lake from almost every window. The game room was great with a full size pool table, ping pong table and games for every age. It was winter so we didn't get to walk around outside but was so relaxing to just visit with the family and slow down for a little while. I would highly recommend this house.
