Nice overall, however, outside property needs some cleaning up and deck railings need work. Having small kids we were very leary of them going near them. Inside cabin was beautiful. Well supplied in the kitchen area. We had a great experience on the island.

We had a fantastic long Labor Day Holiday weekend on the Island. I loved the laid-back nature of the Island. The local shops, eateries and bars all have their own wonderful unique charm. I only regret I didn't have time to visit each and every one. Dan and Lory's Home-Away-from-Home is charming and rustic and quirky and comfortable and well equipped. This is not on them but I do wish VRBO would send the check-in information more than 3 days in advance. The Cabin is picturesque, on a nice quite street, near the ferry and near the main street/shops/restaurants. Everything we wanted to do on the Island seemed to only be 8 minutes away by car. *Both coffee shops are only about a mile from the cabin - the perfect morning walk* The cabin is spacious - having more than enough space for our group of 4. There is also plenty of outdoor seating and two separate fire pits. I would happily rent here again.

We rented the property to attend a family reunion. There were 5 of us and we all enjoyed the space and being in the countryside verses a hotel. There was a well stocked kitchen. The home was easy to find and just a short drive from the little town that had a well stocked grocery store . The owners were easy to get a hold of via the messaging each time I had a question. We had recently lost one of our sisters and it was a perfect place to be together. All 5 of us would choose to return to this cabin if we visit our cousins in the future.! Thankyou for sharing

The home its self was ok. We were almost was canceled less then 2 hours before checking due to sewer back up. But that was taken care of, just couldn't check in til after 5pm. The property needs a good cleaning and updating. There is garbage everywhere outside and many projects started but not finished. The cleaning lady needs to do a better job as well. We found clothing and used toothpaste and a few other items from the previous tenants. And I would not recommend this cabin for summer use as there is non air conditioning or screen doors on the patio. It was cooler outside then inside. Overall it wasn't bad but just needs alittle attention and time. Glad we were able to stay but will read the listings and ask more questions before I rent again.

Beautiful home, location and vacation. The house is cozy, well stocked and in a perfect location. We can't wait to book with Dan and Lorie again.

Great location for access to the main town area for restaurants, bars, shops. Also great neighborhood with friendly and helpful folks, particularly Adam and Becky Steffen next door. We will be back! One bathroom was a bit challenging with 6 of us, at times, but we managed and knew that going in.

We enjoyed our stay. I do have a recommendation though. I find it a bit surprising that the rental provides “Linens” but no towels. I would recommend that it be disclosed on the rental page so it is visible rather than sending an email two days before your check-in. This could be a deal-breaker for some especially since towels can take up a lot of room in your luggage. As we all know when flying weight matters. However, I do like to add, that when we called the host, she did share where we can find some towels down in the basement. We ended up buying on our own instead.

This cabin in the woods was a a great escape from the busyness of life. A great way to unplug, explore the island, and get lost in a book or a movie.

We loved our stay here. Plenty of room for privacy, very clean, beautiful setting. Well equipped kitchen for cooking. Would stay again!

We had a nice relaxing time. The cabin was just as listed. We enjoyed the outdoor firepit and indoor wood burner. Lory was easy to communicate with. Thank you so much for opening your home to us!

Had a great time at this property. Check was easy. Property was exactly as described and perfect for our quiet time away. Enjoyed sitting on the deck with a warm fire at night. Perfect setting for a well needed break away from the hustle.

It was hot in the house and I fell down the deck stairs 2 times. I would never recommend this house to anyone unless they made some changes.

Our family of 4 really enjoyed staying at the Porter house. It was spacious and in a nice location. We enjoyed the easy access to all the sights on Washington Island. The house is beautiful and the rooms are spacious. The kitchen has all the utensils you will need. We enjoyed using the fire pit on one of the nights. There is no air conditioning, which wasn’t a problem for us. It seemed like most places on the island didn’t have that. There also was no WiFi, but we knew that coming into it. They have an awesome selection of DVDs to choose from, which was fun for our family! We’d love to come back someday! Thank you Lory and Dan, for sharing your beautiful home!

The cabin was very comfortable and looked exactly like the pictures. Our arrival was a little quirky, door unlocked and lights left on. A call to the owners took until the next morning to hear back. By then we figured it was ok and had settled in , all was good!! The cleaning crew could pick up their game, we found dirty underwear under the bed… gross. Otherwise we got along great and had a wonderful stay!

Ok. Property was clean but outside smelled of septic and kitchen was overrun by ants. Owners need to get an exterminator.

Beautiful and cozy lofted cabin. Perfect place to come back to after sight seeing and hitting the beach.

We stayed here with two families and had an excellent time. The drive way was a nice spot to have our boys play hot wheels. We enjoyed a fire in the fire pit each night. On rainy days we cozied up inside and enjoyed cabin life!

We really enjoyed our stay here and it was the perfect place for a family with two younger children. The kids loved staying in the loft and the family room was spacious and comfortable. The deck was also a really nice place to spend some time. The cabin is also located in a really great spot on the island, just around the corner from the restaurants and stores on the Main rd. The cabin was clean and in great condition and all the communication with the owners was helpful and friendly. We were really happy with our stay at the cabin and on the Island in general.

The check in process was super easy. The cabin definitely has a rustic, homey feeling.

We stayed here last summer and wanted to go back! The cabin meets our family's needs by having plenty of indoor and outdoor space while also being able to use the common areas to relax as a family. Lory and Dan are great with communicating and answering questions. I hope to go back again!

The property is excellently located, you can (and we did) bike to the entire island from this home. Super Clean (and I am a clean freak), and homey place, Just the perfect blend of log cabin in the woods and neat as a pin with all the amenities. I arrived with an arsenal of cleaning supplies and never needed them except to clean up after us. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

Beautiful log cabin. This was a great place to rewind and relax. Cabin was clean and cozy and nice place to get away and not think about Covid.

We did not know there was no WiFi and only TV was PBS channels. Owners were helpful when we asked how we heat the cabin as it was 52 degrees. There were 2 automobiles in the driveway which was a surprise. We left one day early.

House is beautiful. Very clean. We had fun playing games and just spending some much needed time together. Hope to go back next year!

Nice cabin in the woods. Well kept. Was as advertised

I'd been worried that it would be slightly small (so many photos of homes are taken so as to make the spaces look larger), but the pictures did the cabin justice so we had plenty of room for our group of six adults. The loft gave people space and the two bedrooms gave those wanting more privacy just that. It had a workable kitchen (we cooked all of our meals there for 5 days/4 nights) and the indoor and outdoor eating spaces had enough room. Although we hadn't thought to look for a place with a garage, we were glad to have it because we had bicycles that needed to be stored when not being used. The owners were easy to communicate with and gracious in all of those communications. Location-wise, unless you are willing to pay for a place on the water, you can't do much better than this cabin. We were right around the corner from the west harbor and an easy bike ride from many businesses and even School House Beach (2.8 miles away). Despite not being in the best of shape, I was able to ride my bike everywhere I wanted to go. I would gladly and readily stay there again and would recommend it to my family and friends.

Had a great trip with my family of 5 (three kiddos under 10). The house was extremely clean (coming from a clean freak myself); the loft was perfect for the kiddos; the location was close to everything; and it had all the basics you could need for an up north getaway. Only feedback would be to update the screen door (couldn’t leave the patio door open without mosquitoes pouring in). Overall enjoyed our stay, made wonderful new memories, the owners were extremely responsive, and we can’t wait to come back!
