Great house for our group of 8. Very unique open layout and features. Lots to do between hot tub, ping pong, pool table, many games, excellent dock and swimming in private cove. There are lots of stairs, so just be ware if you have older or less mobile members in your group. Overall, the house was pretty clean, but the dishes / coffee pot were a little less so, and the fridge had a particularly bad odor, but probably just needs a thorough deep cleaning. Likewise, the rotting jet ski at the dock should likely be removed as it does take away from the otherwise beautiful set up down at the water. Communication with the owners was fantastic and they definitely made all the right moves to make us feel very welcome. This was our first visit to SML; didn't know it when we booked, but this south end of the lake is the right end for more privacy and relaxation as the north end of the lake around Moneta is much busier. We will almost certainly look to book at this house again on our next visit to SML...and we will go back...the lake is awesome!! Thanks for a great stay.

Very spacious house with multiple levels and amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the lake and cooking wonderful in the spacious galley kitchen. Owner was quick to respond to any questions or concerns. Highly recommend!

The reviews were right! What a great place. The communal spaces are fabulous-you never feel like you're bumping into other people and everyone found a comfortable spot to call their own. The porch is amazing and we spent a ton of time on it. The kitchen is huge and the entire house is very open. The only disappointing thing was the fishing in the cove! This house is one of a kind!

This home is WILD! The shared spaces are huge, beautifully and thoughtfully appointed so that you can have multiple things going on in the same common area. The porch and view over the lake are spectacular and we enjoyed a little evening cocktail and appetizer there almost every evening. During the day, we were out and about on the lake, paddling, taking a boat ride, or just lounging in floats off the end of the dock. It was peaceful and perfect! The bedrooms are small, but the property owner was super clear about that and who wants to spend time by yourself in your bedroom when you can be with your loved ones! Aside from the house itself, Dale was super responsive to any of our questions or needs. He was attentive and wanted to make sure that our experience was top notch. I couldn't be more grateful for the awesome week that we spent there!

This home has just about everything you could want for a stay at the lake. The house itself is a work of art. Four breathtaking levels with amazing views of the lake. So many amenities such as the hot tub, numerous decks, beverage cooler, ice machine, pool table, ping pong table, great tv/entertainment systems, tons of board games, and so much more. Dale was very responsive to questions and such a gracious host. Highly recommend!

Love this home! We would definitely consider this home on a return SML visit. From the minute the 6 of us arrived, we were intrigued with the architecture. The space seemed like a lot at first, but it felt comfortable in just a couple days -- giving our group of 6 adults/young adults room to play, relax, connect, and even study. The game room (pool and ping pong) invited us to connect as a family during evening hours and spontaneously during the days. The large porch was THE place to relax - the breezes, the view, the comfortable furniture. The large garage doors provided good light. We did not use them a lot, but we appreciated the option. The gourmet kitchen with the gas Wolf range, large built in frig/feezer, wine frig, and ice maker meant we did not need to journey back and forth to grocery stores and restaurants.. (The ice maker is an incredible bonus!). The location was perfect to retrieve our rented boat from the marina. Thank you for the hospitality and the warm welcome!

The pictures do not do this place justice! The home is so large, a week wasn't enough to enjoy all the amazing spaces. The location on the cove is ideal, very quiet, perfect for floating the day away right off the dock, without alot of boat traffic. The internet speed is incredible, half of our party had working days while there, zero connectivity issues despite streaming multiple devices and having 6 additional laptops all running at the same time. Dale is hands down one of the most responsive hosts I've dealt with, any questions were answered quickly and with the utmost care. One thing to note, as mentioned, the house is quite large. There are 4 floors between the bedroom side of the house and the deck overlooking the cove, it was not an issue for us, but if anyone in your party has mobility issues, may be a consideration to inquire about. Overall we loved this house and are already planning to make this an annual tradition! Thanks Dale and Lora for sharing your home and providing such am amazing getaway for our group!

Quiet woodsy location, amazing home with a huge kitchen at the center. Nice sound system and plenty of deck space with fireplaces. Super responsive owner.

Surprised my wife for her birthday with a 2 night stay here. The house and property did not disappoint!! Beautiful house, beautiful views, and all communication with the owner was great! Would highly recommend, ESPECIALLY if you have a larger group, as this house would be PERFECT for entertaining a larger group of people.

The house was amazing. Very spacious with more areas to hang out and lounge than we were able to take advantage of. Will look to stay here again!

We have stayed at several different properties over the last 5 years at smith mountain lake and this one was by far the most unique. The pictures do not do the size of the house justice. It is huge which gave the 8 of us plenty of room to spread out if we wanted some down time or congregate in the game room to shoot some pool when we wanted to have some fun. The owner Dale is great and was very responsive to any questions we had. He even had a Boston butt on the egg waiting for us when we arrived. The dock could use some maintenance but we still enjoyed our time swimming and fishing and was able to keep our 21 foot boat tied to the floating dock. All in all we had a good time during our stay and appreciated everything Dale did to make our stay even better.

Amazing house and location on the Lake

A joyous post-COVID family reunion at this property. The kitchen is massive, prominent, and the center of our activities. The boat dock was convenient and on the best part of the lake. The property gives room to spread out and enjoy some alone time when wanted. A very memorable, rich, beautiful experience!

This is an incredibly unique home -- the kitchen > great room is one of the best entertaining spaces I have ever seen! From the 50+ foot stacked stone fireplace, to the eating area "overlook", to the three automated garage doors that lead out to the deck overlooking the lake... It was a fantastic choice! The hot tub was ready to go and the owner took our experience to a whole new level when we opened the "Welcome Note" to find out that there was a Boston Butt smoking on the green egg on the deck outside!!! This was a fantastic experience -- I highly recommend it!

Just wow! Two couples just finished a stay at this property for a weekend get-a-way. The pictures honestly don't give this property it's full due. Property was easy to find, there's two different driveways from the street. Checking in, accessing the property was smooth due to the superb communication from the owner. A speedy response time was given to any questions. All aspects fo the property, inside and outside was clean and well kept. Bandwidth speed exceeded expectations. The hot tub was very relaxing and in a private area of the home. The house itself is huge and for those who seek a quiet get away. Will stay again in the future. A total gem of a property along with fantastic owners! I can't say enough!

Stayed here for a week with our family of 6 with our 3 dogs. Loved the location on Smith Mountain Lake. Huge house with comfortable beds and the owners even provided the necessities for the whole stay including paper towel, garbage bags, toilet paper, kleenex, etc. The back deck with the views over the water was our favorite place with lots of seating space and privacy. The house is layed out over several levels and was difficult for our elderly dog to get up and down as I could imagine it would be for anyone who has trouble with steps. There is only one bathroom adjacent to all 4 bedrooms with the next full bath down on the living room level which is some distance away. Our kids loved the pingpong table and the middle level of the house became the game center at night. The house needs many light bulbs replaced and also could use a garbage disposal. Loved the ice machine as we rented a boat and used it daily to fill up the coolers saving us a trip to get ice at a store. There is a wave runner floater permanently attached to the boat floater that we used to tie our rental boat up onto every night. It made it a little challenging securing our boat to not hit the floater and would limit the size of boat that you could tie up. The grounds could use some maintenance although the set up kept our dogs on property. Loved the privacy but the camera above the front door was obtrusive, Felt like we were constantly being watched going in and out. Have never had cameras on property before in any other rental property that we have stayed in across the world. The house is rather pricey but they let us bring all three of our dogs which was deeply appreciated.

Location in a small cove with little to no boat traffic other than the few other docs was great! Very little noise from lake boaters! Very relaxing. So much room for a large group to spread out! Well stocked kitchen. Owner was was easy to get ahold of with any questions. My family and I would stay again!

Enjoyed the house very much. It is a very unique house with an absolutely massive common room/den that looks out over the lake. The dock is at the back of a small cove that makes a great swimming area with no boat traffic. The kitchen is great and fully equipped with new appliances. Nice bar area with wine fridge and ice maker helped a lot. Great communication with the owner. Check in/out was a breeze. Thanks!

This house is incredible! The pictures do not do it justice. The huge great room opens up to a deck with an awesome view of SML. The property is pretty large, good for a relaxing retreat. We rented a pontoon and docked at the house overnight with no issues. Would definitely go back.

Stayed for a week with my wife and 4 children. The owner, Dale, is an extraordinarily warm and gracious family-oriented person, and even left us nice note and welcoming gift (a delicious slow Carolina roasted pork bbq) to celebrate my oldest daughter’s pending freshman year in college. As other reviewers have noted, the photos do not do the house or grounds justice — it was jaw droppingly huge, modern, with a state of the art kitchen, beautiful dock and utter privacy. We rented a pontoon boat for the week and docked it out front — we had an amazing time floating around the lake, finding secluded coves, swimming off the boat, and watching some epic subsets. The home is on the best part of the lake, a short boat ride to the mountains and the dam, where there are no homes and it is pristine. All and all, a 10 out of 10 vacation for us, made better by the owner’s kind hospitality!

Memorable trip! The house itself is stunning, plenty of common area space for everyone to spread out as desired! Our group was 2 families of 4 (to include 4 kids) and there’s something for everyone - Games the kids, beautiful kitchen for the cooks or indoor and outdoor seating for the ones who wanted to relax. The back deck with chairs and loungers was our favorite evening hang out. The oscillating fans keep the heat down and the bugs away all night. Great views of the lake as the sun sets. The dock area is perfect as well - speakers, a swing, chairs and plenty of dock space for fishing and lounging. Has cleats so you can tie up anything you rent- Mitchell’s Marina is close and super easy to rent from. Several outdoor fire pits - one down on the dock and one on back deck for roasting s’mores - a favorite for the kids!

We really enjoyed our time at SML and the house was really cool. Great kitchen - the deck was our favorite - we had dogs and a 1 1/2 year old and they were contained on the deck when we would hang out. Even put our corn hole boards on the deck and played there, the outside grounds are hilly. Loved sitting on the deck in the morning having coffee and looking at the mountain. All the bedrooms are on the upper floor and they are small but that really wasn't a problem for us. We enjoyed the game room - played ping pong and pool.

This place was incredible! I am so glad that I listened to other reviewers who pointed out that the photos do not in any way do justice to the house. The house is on four floors and the living spaces are huge and stunning. The style of the home is masculine/industrial – all of the furniture is oversized and sturdy with lots of leather mixed in but also very comfortable and beautiful. If you are looking for a house filled with pastels, wicker, and “Live Laugh Lake” signs, this isn’t the one for you – the art and décor were very unique and we absolutely loved it. The great room and kitchen are amazing with plenty of room for everyone to spread out and relax or gather together in the kitchen to make a meal – there are also so many fun kitchen supplies to make every meal feel special. The outdoor spaces were awesome with comfortable seating and beautiful views of the lake and of course the hottub is a fun bonus – it was large and clean. The house is very thoughtfully stocked so there is no need to worry about the basics – condiments, spices, paper goods, and even some toiletries were provided which is a huge plus, especially in an area where the closest stores are a few miles away. As far as the drawbacks, they aren’t big factors but I will mention here for the consideration of others – 1 – The bedrooms are small. There are three decent sized ones and one that is very small (the bed is the only thing that fits). This was completely fine for our group as but wanted to mention. Beds were top notch! Very comfy mattresses and bedding. 2 – The house is on four floors so there are a lot of steps. In addition, there are three decks and the deck with the grill is not the same as the one with the eating area so you have to cook, bring everything inside and shuffle over to the other deck on a different floor if you plan to eat outside. Also, the slope down to the dock is a bit steep and rocky. Definitely manageable and absolutely not a deal breaker for us but maybe a consideration if anyone in the group has mobility issues – there is a lot of walking up and down steps and on the slope. Final note - we were new to SML and decided to rent a pontoon boat and we are so glad we did! The house sits at the end of a cove and great fishing and swimming off the dock but you need a boat to really explore. Thank you for a fabulous vacation!

If you want an amazing, unique experience on SML, this is your house. The photos do not do it justice. The great room, which may be the greatest great room I've ever been in, in incredible. Truly an experience. We had 3 couples together for the weekend and it was fantastic! We're a cooking crew and the kitchen is spectacular, so huge, and we'll equipped. The game room level, which special hot tub patio is a great hang out space, with a nice pool table and TV. The outside deck, off the great room was a favorite hang out space for us, with lots of seating and a nice view down the quiet cove and dock. The bedroom floor is a little small, with only one bathroom, but it wasn't an issue for us Would totally stay again. And again. Loved it.

The photos of the house really do not due justice to the property. Lots of large, open spaces and places for the family to hang out together and/or find some quiet down-time. We had great meals in the kitchen and wonderful nights out on the deck. Very private and serene, our dogs loved the woods and easy access to the lake. The house is well equipped and well maintained.
