Wonderfully peaceful stay on a stunner of a beach. Great snorkeling right in front of you and super quiet - we basically saw nobody. Very close to Governor's Harbour if you need restaurants or to get some basics for the kitchen. Lunch on your deck is better view than any restaurant. Dreamy place.

The property manager was very helpful.
The vacation rental was very clean.
I was more than happy with the location.
I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.
Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.
Reviewer Comments:
This response is for PINK SANDS COTTAGE ONLY, We unfortunately had a bad experience with this property. If properties are on a water catchment system, they should be check B4 each rental. Especially, during drier times of the year. I feel that our situation could have been avoided. I understand the expense of keeping these properties up, but this was our 1st personal vacation in 7 yrs and it was our 33rd anniversary and we ran out of water 2 times. Fortunately, We were moved to another (better) location and property. If people are going to rent, the property needs to be in a condition to warrants renting. If the water had been checked, they would have known that it was not sufficient for the next weekly rental. Also, at the very least, there should some basic supplies for the new tenant, i.e. 1 roll of papertowels and toilet paper, 1 trashbag, hand soap and dish detergent to tie you over till you can get to the grocery store.

Wonderful. As beautiful as all the descriptions we’d read

peaceful getaway
I was looking for a peaceful beach getaway and this property was absolutely perfect. The house is simple but extremely comfortable and met all my expectations. The view from the deck is spectacular and I spent hours on the lounger reading and enjoying the quiet. The beach was very clean and I practically had it all to myself most days. I never saw more than five or six people during my beach walks.
If you are looking for blissful relaxation, I recommend this property without reservation and I am hoping to return soon.

Perfect Beach House!
The Cayo Loco Beach House was exactly what we were looking for. The house had everything we needed to make our vacation perfect. Maureen was a great host. She provided a wealth of information about the house and the island before the trip and made sure we were well taken care of during our stay. The views from the house are incredible and the beach is beautiful. If you love long beach walks without seeing another person this is the spot for you. There is great sandy access from the beach for swimming and snorkeling as well. The location on the island is very convenient for exploring by car. Being in the central part of Eleuthera we were able to see the sights north or south and still be "home" in time for happy hour on the covered porch. There are plenty of restaurants within a short drive and the stores in Governor's Harbour had everything we needed. For a true "Out Island" experience Eleuthera and Cayo Loco are a combination hard to beat!

This was a beautiful property on a fairly secluded beach. Maureen and Allen provided wonderful accommodations, treats, and were very responsive to anything we needed. Would highly recommend!

An absolute oasis!
Our trip to Eleuthera was nothing short of amazing. It was our first trip to the island and it took only one short day for us to fall in love. Maureen and Alan were spectacular hosts! They are a wealth of information and have everything thought out to the very last detail. Thank you so much for sharing your little slice of paradise with us. We hope to see you guys again soon 😉

Maureen couldn't have been a more wonderful, welcoming host. The house was perfect. The beach was practically private. Would highly recommend for anyone for anyone who truly wants to get away.

Beautiful Beach & Water!
My husband and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary at Cayo Loco for 5 days/4 nights at the end of June 2018, and the weather could not have been more perfect! After a somewhat rugged drive to get to the cottage from the North Eleuthera airport in our rental SUV, our initial worries dissipated when we pulled into the driveway and saw the view of the sand, water and lush landscaping. Maureen greeted us to make sure we had everything we needed in the cottage (the cooler & beach chairs were especially nice surprises!), and provided valuable information about the to-dos on the island. We bought some basic groceries to have a few meals at the cottage, and made sure to catch the Friday night Fish Fry in Governor's Harbour as well as a few visits to Pascal's and the Sky Beach Club pool. We went on one day-excursion to Schooner Cays with was great, but spent the rest of our time relaxing on the beach right outside of the cottage. The beach and water are FANTASTIC, and amazing shallow tide pools form during low tide with crystal clear bath-temperature water. The cottage & its surroundings were all we had hoped for and made for a great first visit to Eleuthera. We would love to come back with another couple to share the experience!

The perfect Eleutheran retreat!
My husband and I loved our stay at Cayo Loco! The adorable pastel cottage was the perfect compliment to the sea foam green beach below, accessible by stairs next to the residence. Maureen is so sweet and provided everything we needed in the house, and even took some beautiful photos of us on the beach! There are two rental cottages next to each other, but we could NEVER hear the other guests, and due to the angle of the porches and the beautiful palm trees and agave plants between them, you can’t see each other! We hired a local couple, per Maureen’s suggestion, to come cook us a traditional Bahamian meal (conch fritters, spiny lobster, freshly caught wahoo) which I recommend doing! We tried different restaurants each night and loved all of Maureen’s suggestions. We rented a car which was very helpful so that we could get around the island easily and explore (we drove to the farthest south beach on the Caribbean side and it was paradise!), although you never get sick of the view at Cayo Loco! I highly recommend this place as a peaceful and gorgeous getaway!

It was everything we hoped it would be in a private, unique and romantic escape!

It WAS a beautiful secluded beach house!!!
Beach was beautiful - a little mind-boggling - as we walked several miles many days without seeing anyone! When it was crowded there were 4-5 people somewhere down the beach. Maureen was available for any questions & had the place perfectly tended to. Had great dinner from Anna & Jeremy and car/day tour to Lighthouse beach from Chris Darling - several of many great recommendations from Maureen. The cottage was very clean with everything we needed for two weeks. We appreciated the cooler and beach chairs we could use for visiting other beaches-although loved returning to our own secluded paradise. Eleuthera is a unique & beautiful place worth visiting. We'll be back!!

Unbelievable location, friendly caretakers and everything you need close by.
Beach is on the front door step. House is nice, and has everything you need for a relaxing beach holiday. Governors Harbour five minutes drive. And is well located in the middle of Eleuthera for easy access to other parts of the island. Unreal place.

Lovely Cottage on the Most Beautiful Beach
This is a lovely property just steps away from the most beautiful beach. The cottage is cozy and comfortable with all sorts of little extras to make it relaxing and delightful. Maureen clearly puts a lot of work into the interior design, and as a result it feels open and airy and there are beautiful touches like colorful Kantha Quilts, prints on the walls, and pretty beach towels to use. On a practical level, there are plenty of kitchen items (pots, pans, coffee maker, teapot), potable water from a tap, TV with Netflix if you want, and plenty of bath towels. We were also impressed by how extremely clean the house is. The house has a covered front porch with a table and lounge chair (that fits two). It is a very nice place to read or relax if you need to get out of the sun for a bit. Just outside the house is a stairway down to the beach, which is amazing. Pink sand and aqua water, and you can walk a long ways in either direction. You may see a few other people come by occasionally but overall it is very private and calm. The property is about 5 minutes away from Pascal's, a fun beach restaurant at the Sky Club, and the town of Governor's Harbor is about twenty minutes away. There are a few shops and restaurants there if you feel like getting out, but you may want to just spend all your time at the house and on the beach! Maureen takes great care of the place and sincerely wants her guests to have the best possible experience. She provides all sorts of information about attractions and activities on Eleuthera, as well as all the practical information you need for your trip. Maureen, you were the most helpful, accommodating and friendly host we could have hoped to meet! Thank you for an absolutely delightful stay!!!

best beach in eleuthera
Everything was wonderful here. The cottage is adorable, the owners are attentive and caring, the beach is absolutely gorgeous, and the location couldn't be better. We stayed eight days and could have stayed forever. We loved driving into Governor's Harbor to go to the bakery, and also down past Palmetto Point to see the gorgeous Ten Bay Beach... but mostly we loved the long lazy days, on the cottage porch, sitting on the beach-chairs next to the water, or wading in the ocean. Thank you!

Best Place Ever!!!
Cayo Loco was the perfect place for us to begin our honeymoon! Pictures don't begin to do justice to how beautiful this place truly is. Maureen, the owner, has taken time and great care with every detail and is a wealth of helpful information. She knows, understands, and loves this island and can tell you anything about it! She made our short stay just perfect, giving us all the privacy we wanted, yet available anytime we needed her. When we plan another trip to the BEAUTIFUL island of Eleuthera we'll always want to stay at Cayo Loco.

A Glorious Week!
My wife and I escaped to Cayo Loco to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary. We enjoyed a wonderful week of R&R -- long walks on the secluded beach, lounging with our books, snorkeling, dinners out at local restaurants, quiet evenings in the charming Cayo Loco bungalow. The pictures do not do justice to the beauty and serenity of this place. Maureen and Allen are wonderful hosts. Weather was the one wild card that we had to contend with on this vacation. When we arrived it was very windy and the ocean quite rough for the first day or so. But no worry...we followed Allen's recommendation and went to a secluded beach on the Caribbean side of the island a 10 minute drive from our place that was tranquil and equally secluded. We ended up going back there several times, even after the wind settled down. All in all we had a great time and highly recommend.

FANTASTIC!
Can’t say enough, this place is fantastic. We had a wonderful time exploring the island, and the house was a perfect base camp. Close to town, but super-remote. Be prepared to relax! The house has everything you need for a once in a lifetime experience.

Beautiful,well maintained slice of heaven!!
Where to begin......My fiancee and I have been engaged for over 6 years,we both had been married before,so this time we just wanted to "run away"somewhere and finally tie the knot! After searching the internet with a few key words Cayo Loco was the first to appear on our screen! When we delved into the pictures and read all the comments we knew this was the place for us!Fortunately there was a block of time available and we booked it immediately! And our journey began!!We were finally going to get married!!So without a real plan we booked our flights and away we went! Not having a solid plan we bought some special wedding clothes, packed our favorite summer attire and were on our way!! When we arrived in Eleuthera we were astounded by it's beauty! Our first stop was getting our rental car!!What a treat because we met a most awesome guy,Chris, who provided us with wheels to tour the island!!We hit it off immediately and away we went!!When we got to Cayo Loco Maureen was there to greet us and show us our beautiful new digs for the next 8 days!!She was warm and friendly, gave us the tour of the cottage and the "do
's and don'ts" of the land and our vacation began! The cottage is beautiful, spotlessly clean and equipped with all your needs for a spectacular time!!No need to bring anything but the clothes you wear!!But the best part was the gorgeous Atlantic ocean within footsteps of the place serenading us with all it's beauty!!This was exactly what we wanted and more!!Tastefully decorated with quality stuff,we were in paradise!!Maureen hooked us up with all the people necessary to make our wedding day complete!!AND she became our photographer on our special day!It was a dream come true!A beautiful arch and walkway decorated with gorgeous flowers and palms on the beach made our day the best it could be!!A true fairy tale!Chris(the car rental guy)and Joan(pastor Dwight's wife)were our witnesses,as we fell in love with them and their true kindness and support of making our day spectacular!!Everyone on this island has a niche, making it so unique and special!Jeremy and Anna cooked us a perfect Bahamian meal on our wedding night, and Pastor Dwight's aunt made us the best German chocolate cake ever, that we enjoyed with everyone after our scrumptious meal!!The food is no joke here, all fresh produce and fish......to die for!And EVERY single person we met were so kind and helpful!!Can't wait to return to Cayo Loco!!!

Perfect in Every Way! Exceeded our Expectation!! I Give it a Six Star Review
Ever say to your self man I really need to get away from it all. Or lets forget about planning this big wedding and go get married on a beach. Well friends my new wife and I did just that and got married on the beach at Cayo Loco! You feel right at home from the minute Maureen meets you and shows you your place. It's hard to focus on what she is saying because your really taken by the setting and natural beauty of this paradise. One thing that we weren't expecting when we went inside of our beach house was...How clean and nice it was! Nicely decorated and had just the right amount of everything you could want.Even the sheets and towels smelled good! Great food is a beach walk away. The people on this island are really friendly and we liked them so much we included them in our wedding.Maureen is super organized and helpful but respects your privacy She filmed and took still pictures of our wedding for us and did an incredible job! Our experience there was like something out of a dream ,the sound of the ocean, the light warm breeze and oh did I mention it was sunny and 80 ! As I write this I'm still riding the high that you get from being there! What ever struggle that you have to go thru to get there will be worth it and soon forgotten the minute you arrive and see and hear the ocean!

Perfect Honeymoon Get Away
My wife and I had an amazing honeymoon at this beachside cottage. The owner lives on the property; she is very organized and the cottages are really well kept. We stayed in February, the weather was perfect and we never had to turn on the air conditioning. The cottage is located on miles of pink sand beach that you have all to yourself. If you see 4 people all day, it's considered a busy day. The house is located in a very secure area on the island. Eleuthera, Bahamas is a beautiful island with delicious food, great people, and tons of activities.

A perfect place right on the beach. Very private - the perfect place to get away and unwind. The owner's were very friendly and helpful, full of any information about the island you could possibly need. The accommodations were very clean with everything you might need during your stay. A great breeze all the time - did not need A/C at all. Highly recommend!!!

Cayo Loco was absolutely breathtaking in beauty, tranquility, the sights and sounds were beyond words. We were looking for a beachfront location anywhere in the Caribbean. Our search on VRBO brought Cayo Loco up as a possibility. The reviews and the descriptions helped us in selecting Cayo Loco. It didn't disappoint. If you are looking for a get a way with beaches, sounds of the ocean, gentle breezes, absolute relaxation, look no further. We enjoyed 6 days in this paradise and found it to be beyond our expectations. We had excellent cuisine from local restaurants. We cannot think of one thing we would change. We've recently vacationed in Hawaii and Eleuthera beaches are far more pristine and far less populated, as in rarely seeing another person. We were able to visit 3 different beaches, but the one right in front of Cayo Loco has everything the others offered. There are over 150 beaches on Eleuthera, so if you desire several different beaches per day, that can be an option. We found Cayo Loco's beach to hold all we needed and thoroughly enjoyed it. Every picture we took looks like we stepped into a Caribbean calendar. Maureen and Allen were exceptional hosts, offering an exhaustive packet of information prior to our visit. We were also able to check in via email or in person if we had further questions regarding adventures or restaurant recommendations.
We hope to go back and enjoy the serenity and ability to unplug and enjoy the absolute peace and calm of this beautiful, undiscovered gem.

My wife and I stayed at Cayo Loco from 4/30/16 - 5/7/16, and i'm already looking to go back.
LOCATION: The home is centrally located on the island, which is perfect if you plan to explore the island and enjoy the isolated beaches. It's a 5-10 minute right from GHB airport, easy to get to (turn into Sky Beach Resort and drive towards the ocean and make a left on "Banks Rd", cay loco is 1/4 mile away). It is conveniently located near Gov Harbour which has every grocery, gas, cash and alcohol necessity. Cayo Loco has 3 homes on the property, the beach front bungalows are called Sand Dollar (where we stayed) and Apocolypso, although next to each other, the manicured vegetation makes for nice privacy
HOME: Sand Dollar is neatly appointed with every amenity you need from spices, utensils, pots/pans, oven, dishwasher, ice cube trays/ice packs, wifi, satellite TV (NY stations local). Maureen is a great host and is very informative, listen to her advice; everyone on the island knows her and helps you. The locals are all kind and treat everyone nicely. The beach in front of the home is perfect, a quick walk down a flight of stairs and your on the beautiful beach which has 3 separate reefs great for snorkling.
My advice to anyone is rent a durable 4x4 with sufficient ground clearance, a Jeep Wrangler is perfect. Other than Queens Highway, the roads are rough and difficult to travel but worth it, the nicest beaches are the hardest to get to. Bring strong bug repellent, we had quite a few bites but it was manageable with deet based spray.
My wife and I are 32 from NJ, we wanted to "get off the grid" but have some of the conveniences of home and Cayo Loco is the perfect medium, absolutely perfect home thats well maintained by a gracious host.
RESTAURANTS: Rainbow Inn on pizza night (Monday) is a must (NJ has the best pizza and I was impressed with the food). Pascals is very convenient with great food, close to Cayo Loco and they have great food. Govenours Harbour fish fry on Friday is great, everyone comes out and drinks/parties. LeoRose beachfront restaurant in James Cistern is amazing, stop there if headed north. Hiring Jeremy and Anna is worth it, they come to the home and make an amazing dinner from locally sourced food.

Where to begin on our perfect honeymoon...we heard of Eleuthera and VRBO through a family friend, searched on the web, and both immediately pointed to Cayo Loco.
We arrived on Southern Air in Governor's Harbor, small plane but very quick ride and the airport is only 10 minutes from Cayo Loco. One of Elliot's employees met us at the airport with our car and we were off! Just a heads up..the roads are no joke. Pot holes everywhere..and we're from New Orleans and used to badly paved roads! Maureen and Allen met us at the house and gave us the grand tour as well as great recommendations of what to do/eat. Everything is clearly laid out in the house, they provide everything you could need, and have specific rules which makes things very easy to manage! They had a precious flower display on our honeymoon bed and champagne..a nice personal touch! The house itself is not large but it is everything that you need for a romantic getaway. Maureen and Allen seem to be friends with or know just about every local business owner and everyone will take care of you if you mention their names. Also, we found Eleuthera itself to be a very safe and friendly island. We slept with the windows and doors open (except the 1 night it rained). The Atlantic beach is literally steps away and the Caribbean is only a short drive from the house. Cayo Loco is very centrally located on the island.
Things we did/places we recommend: Pascal's swim up bar as well as eating their grouper burger, we walked there from the house along the beach and went many times. Da Perk is where we ate breakfast 3 times that week as well as the Governor's Harbor Bakery for tasty treats. Jeremy and Anna came and cooked for us our second night..highly recommend! (And schedule early in your stay..lots of leftovers.) We never got a charter fishing trip set up with them which disappointed my husband but we treated ourselves to horseback riding at Oceanview Farms instead! Cocodimama was the most beautiful beach by far and only 5 minutes from Cayo Loco, and secluded. We ate a snack at Rainbow Inn one day on our way in from the North part of the island..wish we had gone for a whole meal! We had a sunset dinner at 1648..delicious and a BEAUTIFUL view of the water. Friday night is the Fish Fry..I recommend going and trying the fresh conch salad.
We enjoyed our unique, quiet, relaxing, romantic, adventuresome honeymoon so much!! If that is what you're looking for..Eleuthera and Cayo Loco are the right choices!

We stayed at the Starfish Cayo Loco house for our honeymoon at the end of June and had such an amazing time. First of all, Cayo Loco is as described! As in, YES, the views from the house are that amazing, YES, the place is that clean and tastefully decorated, YES, you are just steps from an AMAZING atlantic beach and five minute drive from a PERFECT Caribbean beach! Maureen goes out of her way to make sure you are comfortable in the house upon arrival, gives you some tips and ideas for places to go, and then she leaves you to it! The perfect host!
The house had plenty of towels, beach chairs, dishes, etc. There was shampoo and soap in the shower. Everything was clean. The screens work really well to keep bugs out and although there is A/C, we never had to use it (in the middle of summer) because the breeze through the screens is constant and cooling. We even got to witness a spectacular Caribbean storm on the first night which was very cool. The beach out front is stunning. There are some slightly rocky parts right in front of the house but go 30 yards in either direction and the sand is smooth and swimming pristine. The water is completely see through. Plus the rock formations and coral are great for snorkeling and seeing fish! If you want absolutely still and clear water, drive 5 minutes to the old Coco di Mama resort on the Caribbean side and hang out in perfect Caribbean water with no one around.
Another huge pull of the house is LOCATION. It is only a 5 minute drive to Governor's Harbour and 5 minutes to the airport. You can walk to the Sky Beach Club and chill in the infinite pool swim up bar, though I'd recommend driving there along the access road. The fresh sand can be a chore to walk all that way through. GH is a nice town and it has groceries, a coffee shop, and our favorite restaurant, 1648. All you need really. But even better, if you want to explore north or south, it doesn't matter because you're right in the middle! We drove all the way to the Harbour Town dock in about an hour and all the way south to Cape Eleuthera in a little over an hour. That's pretty much the length of Eleuthera so for whatever you want to see, Cayo Loco is a good base. Just make sure you have the cell phone with you that Maureen provides in case of car trouble. On that note, you will definitely want a 4 wheel drive for your stay and try to get a reliable one.
Thank you Maureen and Alan for a great trip. We hope to be back in Eleuthera soon!

We have just returned from a fabulous vacation at Cayo Loco. The house is lovely and couldn't have been in a better location. It was heavenly to relax on the porch and overlook the sea, take long walks on the deserted beaches, and stargaze in the evening. The house was spotless and well equipped and Al and Maureen were wonderful and accommodating. We loved our time there and are already dreaming about returning!

My wife and I just returned from the best vacation of our lives! Cayo Loco far exceeded the online photos and our expectations! Maureen and Alan turned out a spotless home with everything as advertised. It is the first vacation rental where everything worked...down to the blender (gotta love those frozen Pina Coladas!). Maureen had an island reference notebook with absolutely everything you needed in the way of restaurants, local events and popular beaches. Cayo Loco as home or vacation rental on the beach is simply stunning! We have already recommended it to our friends in Northern Virginia.
