Everything was great - a large, comfortable room with a great river view and balcony.

Penny and Gabriel not only work so hard for their amazing family they work incredibly hard to provide the best experience for those travelling through Muang Ngoy. Penny was such a fantastic host and talking to her every day was so much fun. She has a lot of knowledge of the area and can help you plan your day and even arrange transport for you. If you want to spend your time soaking up village life there’s no better spot than her restaurant which serves delicious food, especially the sandwiches/suzy/and tom yum. The bungalow was excellent and had hot water, incredible views, and a mosquito net. The bed was comfortable and the room had a fan and a/c. But despite this, you really won’t want to spend much time in your room as the surrounding mountains, scenery, nature, and people are not to be missed. On my final day, they arranged me and several others to join them on a road trip to Vientiane to make the journey a lot quicker and easier. These personal touches are what makes staying here so great. Penny and her family made my stay in Muang Ngoy fantastic. I was sad to leave and will definitely come back. You come to Muang Ngoy for the incredible scenery, but you stay for the people, and you leave with new friends. Thank you Penny, Gabriel, and family. Hopefully see you soon!

View from the balcony, kettle, cheap price

Upon arrival, the owner met us at the boat (nice) but was a little pushy about ordering lunch from her instead of stopping at a restaurant like we’d requested. We might have wanted to if they had a menu so we could see options and prices to know what to expect. We also felt overcharged and convinced to book a boat ride to Muong Khoa, she claimed there’s no way anyone could do it cheaper (after arranging it and paying, multiple people told us we could have gotten it much cheaper). They also put us in a different room than what we’d booked. It may have been technically nicer but didn’t have as good a view.

Penny and Gabriel treated us so well. They prepared a wonderful breakfast with a huge fruit plate. They also organised a boat tour to the next village further along the river; we caught some fish on the way and grilled on the riverbank. Great and authentic experience. Penny and Gabriel also drove us back to Nong Khiaw.

A great little guesthouse with beautiful views over the river and mountains. We really enjoyed our stay in this little town with trekking trails and restaurants nearby. Gabriel and his family is super sweat and very helpful! They made great breakfast and offered to drive us all the way back to Luang Prabang. Would definitely come back here.

The beds were quite hard, but that’s not unusual for Asia in general

Nice river view

We booked the most expensive accommodation in the village and were disappointed to find out that the high price does not reflect high quality. The room was rather small and badly maintained – tap was broken, door hardly closed. It is far from the dock (compare to other accommodation in the village) so you have to walk. Breakfast was served near the dock and not in the GH, was not very good and overpriced.

Nice place to stay in Muang Ngoi - great owners, very helpfull. A lot of nice restaurants nearby (rather go right than left). Perfect breakfasts (but be sure to be early, cause might be difficult to find a sit).

The family was really nice and helpful. The location, the hammocks and the view were simply amazing! Recommend.

The ONLY thing that was missing was an A/C, but we had a fan and a mosquito net in our room so it was ok.

Extremely hearty welcome by host family (special thanks to Gabriel - awesome guy!). They fetch you at the boat pier, show you to your rooms and are very knowledgeable about the place and surroundings. Squeak clean rooms, very good fittings for this price category and well maintained. Hammocking (local national sport) in the afternoon on veranda highly recommended! Location perfect for 'nightlife' aka best happy hour places in 'town' and plenty of good restaurants.

Everything was prerfect. Clean room and bathroom. I slept like a baby on this vite bed ! Wonderfull view from the room (and the hamac). Great infos about where to go for trekking and nice pics. Local food great. AWESOME
