Rooms excellent for quality and comfort and the location is great for the town. Staff helpful and accommodating for the room request.

Car Parking clarification and times. Didn’t know it was chargable. Thankfully space available otherwise you have to park at a multi-story 5-6 minutes away.

Room clean, Being a Wetherspoons food was fine and huge portions for incredibly low prices.

Initial access to hotel was difficult as entrance was fob operated and no one on end of intercom. Eventually another guest let us in! Car parking charged at extra money.

The Portland is in a great location yards from the market square ,the town shops and is a great looking building. The hotel has a lift and a small car park at rear (booking and payment required),contact reception by intercom and you may have to wait in car park for someone to allow you in to access lift to to book in. Once booked in room key gave access to hotel from car park and reception. The room we stayed in was at the front of the pub overlooking the street which was quiet on the Sunday night we stayed The staff were helpful and friendly and our room was clean and comfortable with separate shower and toilet room. The food was off the usual wetherspoons menu , served hot and tasty with the tables and whole bar area being clean and tidy . Good selection of real ales were also available

Nothing not to like,

The parking options were very limited in front of the hotel since half of the spaces had been taken over by the bar for outdoor seating. Also a number of people were parked in the car park who were not guests of the hotel. Loud customers in the Wetherspoons until late in the evening and there was light shining in through the bathroom window all night.

Lovely size room, comfortable king size bed, spacious shower, choice of hot drinks, biscuits and water.

The kind owner of the business opposite let us park there as we arrived about 5.30pm. Hotel car park very small. Disturbed by the noise of loading/unloading at Royal Mail situated opposite the front of the hotel at midnight but didn’t last too long.

Good price and local to where I needed to be. Large bed, desk for working. USB plug points. Clean.

The bed was uncomfortable - one side was hard, and the ohter soft, and it felt like the mattresses were old - it was two single beds put together. Despite being away from reception, there were a number of times when the door near y room was used which must have been by staff. Having not slept well, I did not appreciate the 7.30am beer barrel delviery outside the room.

Wow we're to start our room was beautiful location fantastic and staff we're lovely definitely recommend.

The experience was excellent. Only downfall paid £20 2 nights on car park No bays available on second night. So obviously overbooked. Staff were first class. Rooms beautiful. Definitely be back Kind regards Miss g thomas.

Good value, great room with space and adequate soundproofing for a good night's sleep. Huge bed and decent bathroom. Pub and food downstairs, good location and beautiful historic building. Much better than the Ibis hotel (where I stayed last September). Breakfast (purchased in the bar) was outstanding.

I thought that £10 per night for car parking was excessive.

The Valentines meal deal was very poor

Paying extra for parking - but as it was limited on-site it was better than leaving it in a multi-storey. But book early as only a few spaces.

First time I’ve stayed at a Wetherspoons hotel. Really impressed with the room, how clean it was and the little extras such as bottle of water, oat milk sachets. Would definitely stay again. We came up for the football at Chesterfield and the number 50 bus goes from the ground to outside the hotel
