This home in Custer was the perfect home base for exploring the Black Hills area. At the end of a long day, this was a great place to come back and relax. The game room kept the kids occupied while we kicked back on the front porch.

We came with 2 other couples who have never been to the Black Hills. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and all its unique characteristics. Great location! Will recommend this host!

Such a great property for a girls weekend in Custer. Perfect location to Custer National Park for hiking during the day and for grabbing a nice dinner in town at night. Julie was very responsive to any questions and have great recommendations for dinner. The house was clean and spacious.

This house was the perfect location for our visit to the Black Hills. Custer is in the middle of everything we wanted to do, so it was an excellent home base. Our party of 8 was comfortable without being crowded. The kids loved the arcade room especially! The street out front is a little busy, but back in the bedrooms we couldn't really hear the traffic noise. Overall, an excellent and memorable stay in a unique property!

Bedroom layout upstairs provides little privacy when it’s hot and AC on. Downstairs bedroom small. But all beds were very comfortable. Side door to patio would not lock. Front room should be made more usable (filled with stuff). Living room furniture uncomfortable. Great kitchen. Nice patio but cigarette butts left. Very convenient location. The place provided what we needed but nothing extra.

80th family birthday! Climbed Crazy Horse and did all the other Black Hiils vacation activities! Kids loved the game room. Comfortable visit!

The bedrooms were rather small and we might have been better with three bathrooms but we made it work.

The property was everything we expected, comfortable and secure. The only suggestion that I would have for the property owner is to maybe do a little re-hab on the gas grill. It functioned just fine but could use a little re-hab such as replacing a couple of worn components above the burners.

We all absolutely loved the Dakota house. So old and so much history. Loved the older pictures of the Custer area way back when. Custer is a must to visit and close to everything you want to explore. Property manager is very helpful and prompt. 5 star stay 👍👍

Great for families!
This location is great! Right on the main street.
House is big and has many areas for connecting with family. Coffee and wine on the front porch was my favorite.
Video games and jukebox where so much fun.
Highly recommend for families.

Great central location!
This property was as advertised. The living area was spacious and the kitchen well appointed. The kids had lots of fun with the games. Location was very near Crazy Horse, Custer Park and Mt Rushmore as well as walking distance to a great coffee shop, bakery, brew pub and other fun shops.

Family Roadtrip
Custer was a great central location for our family road-trip. This property offered plenty of space and comfort as our home away from home. It was in a great location and within walking distance to everything in downtown Custer. Would definitely stay here again!

So much Fun!
We loved this house, the game room was a hoot as well as the juke box, we played that all the time. The house was very roomy, big dining room table for all of to eat at, kitchen was large enough for a few of us to prepare our meals easily. This is just a great place for a family or a group of friends. Love it

Interesting historical home
Enjoyed staying in such an historic location which means some things show their age. On the main strip of Custer. City has hard water and high mineral content w/sulfur if you are not used to it, it is safe.

Best Spot in Custer
My friends and I had such a great time I don't even know where to start. It is difficult to book a VRBO in a town you haven't been to and know little about and this house was absolutely perfect! I came to Custer with 4 other girl friends to go to the buffalo round up and we stayed from Wed-Sun. This house was located in the center of town and we could walk anywhere which was a huge perk. The house itself was historic, cute, had plenty of entertainment and amenities, and was more spacious than we could have asked for. I actually think the house was even better in person than shown in the photos. Julie made payment, check in and check out very easy, which is greatly appreciated. The house is about a 5-10 min drive from the Crazy Horse memorial, maybe 40 mins to Rushmore, on the edge of Custer State Park, and in the heart of the town. We were also close to Rockin R Trail rides and you can see Crazy Horse from those stables. Out of everything the house offered I think we enjoyed the juke box the most. Highly recommend visiting Custer if you haven't yet and this house is the best spot to stay in town!

Charming space with room for friends to gather
Great location in Custer, 140 year old house is charming, great rooms for friends to gather, eat together, but remember with old houses it means small bathrooms and bedrooms, but we had 3 couples and found it charming

Excellent stay!
The house was perfect for the 10 of us! We all loved the jukebox, the kids loved the video games. The house was laid out perfectly for our needs. I don't think I've ever stayed in a house that was better stocked. The location was really nice for all of us...a few blocks to town with everything we need within walking distance (even if we chose to drive more than we should have). Communication to and from Julie was so simple, and she was extremely responsive. If I ever travel out to that area again, I'd try and get the same property. It was exactly what we wanted and more!

Excellent location
Very charming house with plenty of space. The kids loved the game room. Patio was nice for family dinners. House was an excellent location, so nice to be able to walk to shops and restaurants. Very close and convenient to Custer state, Mt. Rushmore, etc. Was even an easy day trip to Badlands. We loved our time in Custer and this was a perfect place to rest at the end of an active day.

Great location and lots of character!
We loved this rental and we were able to walk just about anywhere we wanted to go, and spent plenty of time at the house playing the pinball machine, sitting out by the gas firepit, or playing cards. There were a few minor things that just come with the character/age of the house, such as warmer upstairs (cools down with windows and fans in the evening, and I can't sleep if it's hot and did just fine) or older style windows - but it was in no way an inconvenience and added to the charm of staying in this home. I Would go back again!

perfect location for a fun family trip
We were very happy in this historic house. It has a fun layout and our kids loved the pinball machines. The kitchen was fully equipped (including oil and spices). We all slept comfortably and had plenty of room to spread out. We had three family units, my parents, our married daughter and her husband, and my husband and I and our children and we all had plenty of space. The bathrooms are very small, especially the showers, but the location was perfect for everything we wanted to do, including Mount Rushmore, Custer National Park, Black Hills Caverns, and Rapid City. The town is super fun, the grocery store was close, as well as restaurants and a historic ice cream parlor. We enjoyed the outside and inside eating areas. We had one small issue with the downstairs television and the owners were very prompt with getting back to us and resolving it immediately. We loved our stay here and would definitely rent this house again in South Dakota. Perfect house for a perfect stay with plenty of memories in a fun historic house.

Custer is a fun town
We enjoyed that the house was within walking distance of everything in Custer. My only complaint would be the house was dusty and had flies under the twin bed and in the window sills. I let the owner know and she was gracious and wanted to make things better. We would stay here again.

This property was a great home base to explore nearby sites like Mt Rushmore and Wind Cave NP.
We enjoyed our 6 day stay in this unique property with a fun origin story. We were comfortable spreading out in the sleeping areas in the converted attic space which had two end rooms with queen beds and a middle room (pass through to one bedroom) that also had a queen bed and a double bed. Downstairs we enjoyed several rounds on the Galaga and pinball machine, and playing songs on the jukebox, what a hoot! The Buffalo head was a nice touch. The living room was comfortable and large dining area ajoined where we could eat meals together. The kitchen was well stocked with the dishes, pots, pans and utensils, with labels on cabinets and drawers a nice touch making things easier to find. Outside we enjoyed the patio table area when we brough home ice cream treats from the Dairy Queen just down the street. We appreciated the laundry area that allowed us to get everyone's gear clean for another week.
We had one issue when we arrived a window had been left open without a screen during the cleaning / turn over and flies had setup shop upstairs. Our hosts were very responsive, they sent someone out within the hour to clean out the flies and the next day arranged for a spraying. It was fly season, so we did continue to have some get inside, but much more manageable (keep doors and windows closed or screened) after the clean up.
This was a comfortable home base for our family of 2 adults and 4 children (age 4-11), conveniently located to a number of area sites including Mt Rushmore, Wind Cave NP, Custer State Park, 1880 Train, Crazy Horse and many hikes. We saw lots of wildlife in the area, both in the parks and along the roads near Customer. October was post-season and several of the restaurants and museums were closed for the season, but there were several good restaurants we could walk to easily from the property (Custer Wolf, Bugling Bull, Skogen Kitchen, etc) and there was a grocery store across the street.
