The set breakfast was great, and Japanese style, slightly different each day. The restaurant kindly gave us a vegetarian version after the first day when we realised how much of the breakfast contained seafood of some kind, as one of us is vegetarian. We didnt get the dinner, but if it was anything like the breakfast it would be pretty good. We got given robes (yukatas) to wear which we used to go to and from the onsen. The onsen was small but nice (no cold pool though, only two hot), and really welcome after a day’s hike up and down Mt Misen. Really recommend going up to Mt Misen if you like spectacular panoramic views. You can take the ropeway if you dont like hiking. Would recommend walking up Otomo Course and down Momijidani so as to avoid the crowds, if you are a hiker. There are other hikes on the island but unfortunately we didnt have time.
Room was a good size, and being able to open the windows a bonus. There were hooks to hang towels and robes, a tiny clothes airer, even two fold up chairs. We didnt discover the in-room safe until too late. We got given complementary japanese pastries or biscuits each day, and cold water in a covered jug. Towels were changed every day, but we didnt use the fresh ones as it seemed a waste to launder towels after just one day (we were there for 2 nights).
Dont do what we did and walk from the ferry pier to the hotel, unless you dont mind the wheels of your suitcases almost rattleling off on the rough stones on the walkways and narrow roads, it would ok with backpacks. The hotel provides a shuttle service (you can ring them for a pickup) which we used on check out.
Our bathroom smelt strongly of mould, probably because the bath fixture was not sealed to the walls so it would be damp and mouldy there when water runs down the side while showering. This is something we have found in common with a number of other hotels in Japan with prefab plastic bathrooms. Otherwise the room was clean and well purposed, if a bit dated.

The breakfast was wonderful and filling. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was very comfortable.
Personal bathrooms are small, however that seems universal across Japan so it wasn’t a problem.

Staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful. When our travel plans were altered due to bad weather, they helped us call our next hotel to cancel the reservation and gave exceptional advice on how to proceed. We were so appreciative of their assistance as we would have been stranded otherwise!

We booked a room with a view. Could see the Torii gate from our room.
Free shuttle service between ferry port and hotel worked out well for us.
When we got to the ferry port, we asked the lady at TI to call the hotel for us.
Hotel shuttle arrived within minutes.
We booked dinner (Kaiseki style) at the hotel and that was impressive and Japanese style breakfast did not disappoint.
Hotel very close to Daisho-in and the Daisho-in Course trailhead.

The staff could not have been nicer. They provided a shuttle to and from the train station, gave us a great recommendation for dinner, and were very kind while explaining how to eat the breakfast which was delicious.

Beautiful tatami room with covered balcony and view of the illuminated Itsukushima torii; very kind manager picked me up and delivered me back at the dock for the ferry to Hiroshima.
It was not possible to have dinner as you had to book day in advance, while nearly all restaurants on Miyajima island close at 19:00.

The room was very nice. It was our first time sleeping on mattresses on the floor. The air conditioner worked and we appreciated having it. The breakfast was delicious. A van was offered to take us to the ferry. very nice!

The property is in the heart of Miyajima, and would totally recommend Kikunoya for the location close enough to the shopping district but a little away from it, in a charming side street. We got the room with futon beds and half boarding including an amazing dinner and breakfast with seasonal, traditional dishes, and plenty of seafood. Charming staff, rooms were amazingly clean and well maintained, and restaurant were dinner and breakfast were served was too very charming. Special mention to the private bath for a relaxing moment, after exploring the island by night, so special and quiet when all the tourists are gone.
We absolutely loved it :)

The real Japanese experience. The use of a yukata that you can wear outside the hotel for photos. Very clean. The onsen is wonderful both indoor and outdoor.
Whilst the food was traditional and very high end, it was a step too far for us I'm afraid but it was amazing to have the chance of a real experience.

Western style room. Twin beds not tatami mat room. Standard small modular bath unit. Nice dinner and breakfast presentation but not in room. Great for families.
Not offered traditional tatami mat room.

Gave us an exciting experience of Japanese breakfast.
Wearing the Japanese costumes was another way to understand better the local culture.
Public bath was uneasy to me personally.

The property is about 10-12 minutes away(walking) from ferry terminal! They also have a shuttle but I’d rather walk and check out the waterfront and downtown before getting to the hotel. The staff is so kind and amazing. I arrived late and the front desk gentleman offered to bring me downtown to find an open restaurant for me to eat and so he did. Thanks to him I didn’t go to sleep hungry that night.
I loved everything about this property. I hope I get the chance to return someday!

My husband and I did 1 night on Miyajima Island visiting from Yokosuka. We checked in approximately 3 hours early, hotel offered to hold our bags until the room was ready, and then when we returned to fully check in, they had already brought our bags up to the room. It was an old fashioned key lock, which I was cool with and I also opted for the traditional Japanese style room with the dinner and breakfast option. Highly recommend, although I did feel bad for my husband as he's not too big into fish/squid. On my end, and for the most part his, the food was delicious. I did notice that if you book through the website, you can upgrade to beef for free, but I couldn't figure out how to input our names in Hiragana on the website even using Google. While we were at dinner they made up our beds as well.
Almost forgot, you also get to pick out yukatas that you can wear to your meal, or just around Miyajima while you explore and they offered to hold our bags until we were ready to ferry back to Hiroshima, just had to contact the hotel and they had a driver deliver them to us! I highly highly recommend this hotel. Other things to note, while there is was a male and female onsen, we haven't worked up to using those yet and we opted on having a room with a private bath so I can't speak to that.
The only downside I can think of were the lack of certain key amenities. You get to choose certain ones when you check in, like toothbrush, comb, etc. but there were no washcloths and/or loofahs. There were towels and slippers though. All in all, that was the only negative but still the positives greatly outweighed that one negative.

This was my 3rd stay at the hotel. Just keeps getting better. Right on the edge of the primeval forest, lots of deer, and they have a shuttle to take pick you up and drop you off at the ferry. Relaxing outdoor onsen
Absolutely no complaints

The Kaiseki (Ryokan meal) was exceptional, cooked by Junko Kikugawa the landlady. From when we arrived, the driver, Itou-san, was very friendly and welcoming, making an effort to speak in English with us. The restaurant service staff, Tanaka-san and Mori-san, gave us excellent service, smiling and welcoming throughout our stay. It was like going to a friend's house for a meal. There was also a Nepali lady amongst the service staff who spoke excellent English and Japanese, serving with the same friendliness. Sorry, we forgot her name. The front desk staff were also very helpful. Despite the close distance from Miyajima's attractions, the hotel was in a very quiet neighbourhood, allowing for a peaceful stay. Overall, we really enjoyed our ryokan experience and would love to come back again.
The twin sharing bed was a bit small for two adults.

Friendly, attentive and very accommodating staff. Drove us back to the ferry. Communal bath. Breakfast included and provided a vegetarian breakfast for one of us.
