This is a gem of a place, so unique. Waking you are transformed to another country. The curtains moving with the breeze. Frieda books and decor. The grounds are hard to leave. We stayed here while exploring our next home. We would definitely stay again. The opera is a short 7 minute drive and Lauren is so helpful.

Our daughter lives in a shared house in Santa Fe, so my wife and I were looking for a pleasant place in town or conveniently nearby when we visited her over the holidays. We'd never heard of Tesuque, but found that it's only a few miles north of town. We were charmed by the photos of the lovely small house we signed up to rent, but were totally blown away by how wonderful and authentic it was. It is brimming with southwest folk art... but also extremely peaceful and comfortable. It's located with a few other small places on what appears to have been an old New Mexico hacienda. Despite being only a few miles out of town (in the direction of Santa Fe's lovely Opera House), it's in quiet countryside. It's just a 5 minute drive back into town, but the other way leads to walking trails and Tesuque Pueblo. The house itself - appropriately named the "Folk House" - was adobe style, with a charming living/dining area with a fireplace, bedroom with a big and really comfortable bed, walk-in closet, and connecting bath, a cozy kitchen (old style but fully equipped), and a laundry room with washer, dryer, ironing board, and more. There's a lovely yard out front that will be perfect for hanging out when the weather's warmer, plus another terrace with table and chairs out back. (The alpacas down the drive are an added attraction.) Besides easy access to the central attractions of Santa Fe - restaurants, the plaza, Georgia O'Keefe and New Mexico Art museums, etc. - Santa Fe's mountain parks including ski area are only a few miles away. We'd just been seeking a pleasant place go stay, but this was more... like a resort retreat in its own right. We can't wait to go back in Spring.

This is a wonderful property, filled with folk art, comfortable furniture, and abundant supplies for every kind of comfort. The setting is perfect - a beautiful location for relaxing or hiking, close to restaurants, galleries, a glass studio, and the opera.

Had a wonderful time here. The hosts were very nice and helpful. There’s an adorable little fenced in yard in front of this cottage with a table and chairs and it was a perfect place to have breakfast and start the day. I would definitely return.

This place has everything. The location is wonderful, and the cottage itself is on a large property. Total privacy. The cottage itself has everything that one could need. Just bring your clothes! Plan to stay an extra day just to enjoy the cottages front fenced in yard, and the back covered patio. Eager to stay here again

Beautiful, Peaceful setting!

We really enjoyed our stay at the casita in Tesuque. The location and grounds are ideal, Lauren is very prompt in responding to questions and thorough. The unit is pretty well outfitted. In particular, the back patio and lawn are fabulous. We took all of our meals outside, even in the afternoon rains. On the other hand we found the casita a little difficult to live in for a multi-day stay. The unit is overfurnished and overdecorated to the point of not being easy to walk around. There are also a lot of pillows (a lot) and fabric folk art which seem to gather dust. We had to move a lot of pillows and even a chair into the large storage closets to feel comfortable. With some de-cluttering and de-personalization, the casita would be perfect.

It is a great place to relax, watch birds and close to the opera. Not suitable for people looking for modern hotels. We loved the quiet and peaceful area.

The folk house is wonderful. The decor is representative of the Santa Fe area and is cozy and inviting. Our stay was comfortable and we really enjoyed the entire property. The Alpacas are a delight. Our host was always very responsive and gracious. We will be back and highly recommend staying here.

Thank you for the nice accommodations. The grounds were outstanding with the Chapel and the parklike setting, making our stay very relaxing and renewing.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The house is located in a beautiful, quiet, and woodsy area about 10 minutes drive from Santa Fe. The property was nicely maintained and the house had a beautiful little front yard with sitting area, as well as cute alpacas and other animals for visiting. Although we never met Lauren, she was very responsive and helpful via messages on VRBO and later by text, and check-in and check-out was very smooth and easy with a door code. The house was very well equipped with everything you need for doing laundry, cooking, etc. Unfortunately our stay was a little less comfortable than it could have been because the metal bed frame was extremely squeaky and wobbly, and the squishiness of the mattress magnified even the slightest of movements. Although I know the folk art is advertised as part of the appeal of this house, we also found the amount of decorative objects to be simply too much. With every surface already covered there were few places for guests to put their own things, and it felt a bit cluttered because of this. Some items seemed to be chosen for look at the expense of practicality, and for example the bathroom hooks were unable to hold up the nice big towels provided so they were always falling on the floor.

This property was decorated with many southwestern items that made staying here like a cultural experience. The property has a small church and yoga retreat area. Very special.

The house was comfortable, clean, quiet, and we were very happy staying there. It was Christmas week, I think we were the only guests on the property, and it snowed heavily after we arrived, but Lauren and Jeff were very attentive. Lauren answered any questions we had quickly, and Jeff spent hours keeping the driveways clear of snow so we could get out to the road each day, which was no small feat. The house seems far from the bustle of Santa Fe, yet only a short drive away. We had most meals in the house, and the full-featured kitchen was fine for that. The washer and dryer made it easy to cut down on the amount of clothes we packed. Due to the weather, we didn’t get to enjoy the grounds much, but it was fun feeding carrots to the alpacas.

Great location near quaint town- market restaurant is amazing. Nice patio and lovely grounds. Close to everything in Santa Fe as well as some wonderful hiking spots.

This is quite a find! The village of Tesuque is a gem tucked away, including the property where the Folk House is located. The house is a delightful museum of folk art and whimsical design, but also a well equipped and very comfortable home. We loved it!

We stayed in the folk house. Extremely cute and filled with all kinds of amenities, we truly enjoyed our three nights at this property. Property managers were helpful and friendly, Lauren even let me borrow a yoga mat. The entire property is well maintained, the gardens are beautiful. One note, the fireplace in the folk house was not working, we wish they would have listed this on home away.

We loved our cottage and the property. It was the perfect getaway and will for sure be back. Thanks for providing us a wonderful weekend getaway!

Tierra Alegre is a lovely property and the managers couldn’t be more friendly, helpful and accommodating. The Folk House is charming and comfortable and we look forward to coming back next year. What’s more, the alpacas are even more delightful in person than they are in the pictures.
