5 families stayed here and enjoyed every minute of our vacation. We had 12 kids, ages 3-10 and the house had plenty of space & appliance’s to meet their needs (high chairs, packNplays, games, puzzles, etc). The bedrooms are all spacious & well furnished. The pool was perfect and well positioned for our group. Short easy walk to the beach as well. Loved the small town located just 1.5 miles away with the best coffee shop & beer garden. 10/10 for our group!

The house was really good in that it had an elevator and 8 master suites. Plenty of room for all 15 of us. The grill outside was in very rough and dirty shape. We had a lot of issues with ants in the kitchen and some plumbing issues. Several of the doors leading outside either didn't lock or were difficult to open.

Reviewer Comments: The main problem we had with this property was that the stove worked VERY POORLY. Took over an hour to boil water. Needed to allow over two hours to prepare dinner as only one of the gas burners provided much heat. We called about this issue early in our stay and then again after several days. A maintenance person was sent out only to inform us that he did not repair appliances. No further action taken by rental company. Also, the ice maker in the kitchen freezer did not work, requiring us to buy ice from the store which then melted slightly on way home and froze in a block. Again, we reported this issue to the rental company but were informed by maintenance that they did not work on appliances.(A recurring theme!) We did buy some ice trays to make some ice, but this could not keep up with the demand. This is a large and beautiful beach house which is made for many visitors - unfortunately, it was difficult to feed those visitors in a timely manner!

The bathrooms were not cleaned well, the pool was dirty, the grill was rancid and there were broken chairs and pool floats thrown over the fence, the sewage pipe was backed up for 3 days - we couldn't use downstairs bathrooms! The property manager was hard to contact and just made excuses. The cleaning fee was returned, but not enough for the trouble we endured. I wouldn't rent off these people again! Keep looking!

The most positive was the response time to service issues by the rental company. They were quick to respond when needed. The most negative would be the house needed service throughout the week. We had numerous toilet issues, the house came with no beach chairs (never even occurred to me to confirm this when reviewing the website. It's the beach!) the house is too large not to have dual ovens, dishwashers, and laundry. The location is great as we go to the drive on beach daily. I would use the rental agency again but would not rent summer winds another time. The last negative would be finding hair in the brand new clean sheets after turning down the bed.

The owners have thought of everything especially in the kitchen. This property is spacious and had plenty of room for us all to spread out. The elevator was a welcome amenity as we used it to transport our luggage and other things to the 3rd floor. Sure beat carrying everything up the stairs! And speaking of the 3rd floor, you are in for a treat in regards to the master suite on this level! The pool and hot tub were clean and we enjoyed them both nearly every day. Thankfully, we had the pool heated because the weather during our stay wasn't as beautiful as we had hoped, but that didn't stop us from enjoying our time at Summer Winds. The beach is just a short walk away and was easily accessed. Parking was more than ample. I would definitely recommend this property to families looking for a place that is clean, spacious and full of amenities.

We had a wonderful week at summer winds! We had 10 adults and 10 kids ages 1-5. Plenty of space- bathroom for each bedroom was so nice, and the additional playroom/media room was a great spot for the kids to play and hang out. The pool and hot tub were used daily and the elevator made trips with groceries/multiple babies super easy! The short walk to the beach was super nice as well! Our kiddos never complained about the walk. Only “negatives”: check in process. Our house was done being cleaned by 3pm. We were local prior to check in so we saw the cleaners as they were leaving. We never heard from the property manager that we could check in- which pushes back out check in until 6pm. With so many tired little kids it would have been much nicer if we were contacted once the property was cleaned. That was a waste of 3 hours for us. I even tried to reach out to the company and never received communication back. The house was relatively clean when we checked in. I don’t think the cleaners did a great job with vacuuming or cleaning the walls. We know OBX is buggy but there was dead spiders/bugs on the walls which weren’t even attempted to be wiped down. We also vacuumed the downstairs level as soon as we checked in. Additionally the cleanliness of the sheets- we found towels (clearly from a child peeing in the bed) under mattress pads. So I guess they don’t change mattress pads which is gross. Overall the house was great, I would suggest better communication with check in time and better cleaning between parties.
