Wonderful property, more beautiful in person than in the pictures. Pool, backyard and views were awesome.

We had a really great stay here! The view is even better than the pictures, we had everything we needed, and had no troubles with the check-in process. We would definitely stay here again if we ever get back to this island!

This is our second stay, but certainly not our last. We have some very specific "wants" for our Hawaiian holiday. Single story, private pool, oceanfront, doesn't cost us an arm and a leg...and Hilo Shangri La provides all of this. It is a funky, Hawaiian beach house and we love it. Due to airline schedule changes we had to make numerous changes to our reservation and every interaction was positive and fun.

Our stay at Hilo Shangrila was everything we were hoping for and then some. The view out back is one that never gets old, and it left us awe-struck every day. Communication was thorough and timely. The home itself was extremely clean and as listed. The pool and hot tub combination was also great and both extremely clean. If you're looking for a peaceful slice of paradise, you won't be disappointed. While I'm not sure if our travels will bring us back to Hilo, I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else after our experience here - we're still talking about it even after returning home! Many thanks for making this available for our family to enjoy as a very memorable experience.

Reviewer Comments: The following maintenance issues were sent to the Concierge on Wednesday 7/19/2023: The door and window in the dining room were "frozen shut". (Confirmed by Gary) With no circulating air and no AC in that room we could not dine there comfortably.The oven was very dirty and some pans underneath weredirty/rusted and unusable (Confirmed by Gary with photos.) Some knives and utensils had rust on them. One of the microwave oven lights is out. Gas from the grill lite once but wouldn’t light again. The second tank is rusted all over and does not look safe. The metal grill cover is loose and falling off. (No one came to assist in repairs). We had to fry our fish rather than grill it. The hot water knob in the main shower is loose and ready to fall off. The LG remote control for the AC in the master bedroom does not work. We were expecting a 5 star experience but our experience was far less than that. It would be appropriate to receive a partial refund as we did not get what we paid for.

Excellent ocean front property- quiet location great place to relax. Whales made an appearance a few times

The house is on an amazing ocean front lot and we loved spending time by the pool. At the end of the street is an amazing area where the water meets the rocks. The neighbors on either side have a lot of deferred maintenance on their properties so you have to be able to line of put blinders on and look straight out to the rocks and ocean. It is quite a drive from the airport so be prepared and stop for groceries as you drive through Hilo. It’s a long way back.

Quiet, peaceful surroundings. Outstanding views. Wonderful house with all the amenities. Pool next to the ocean is perfect. Great kitchen and a very relaxing house. Neighborhood is very quiet and safe. Worth every penny! One of the best houses we have rented. Highly recommended!! Five stars!!

This place has a feel of old Hawaii- a drop dead gorgeous piece of property. You look out the windows and see the pool and beyond it is the Pacific Ocean with its nonstop waves. We ate outside at the patio table every evening. I swam in the pool once or twice a day. The house is architecturally interesting and so lovely. It had everything we needed. I am totally flummoxed by the negative review. This place is wonderful. It makes the condo we are now in on the other side of the Big Island disappointing. Thank-you so much.

Reviewer Comments: Stayed in this location 4-years ago, and things have definitely gone downhill. Maintenance of home doesn't seem to be a top priority. Cleaning fee, but when we arrived we found litter outside(used bandaid, straws, etc). Inside the toilet had obviously not been cleaned. Refrigerator died in the first 24-hrs after we arrived. We notified the management team, but it took more than 24-hrs for a replacement, causing the loss of food that we had purchased. We were reimbursed for the loss of food and given $18 for the inconvenience, but not reimbursed for having to eat out during this time. Vrbo was of no use at all with the issue. Not the best way to start a vacation. Location is beautiful and as described.

It is located around 30 minutes from Hilo, 40 minutes from Volcano National Park, and under 2 hours from Kona. The grounds are well kept and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We would go back 100 times over! It honestly kind of ruined our stay on Oahu after we left Big Island just because of how amazing the house and island were!

This house was everything we could need while on the Hilo side of Hawaii. We have stayed before COVID and house was down the street from here, but not near as nice. Would stay again in a heartbeat! Easy to find in the dark and comfortable for everyone with the guest house included.

Anyone who books this house is booking it for the pool and view, and this aspect of the house did not disappoint! The private pool with the expansive view is a treat. There are 4 loungers. We had very unfortunate weather, but the hot tub helped because we would just into the pool and then warm up in the hot tub. There are no lights in the pool for night time. The house itself is very functional. It is old but cozy and the Hawaiian decor gives it a vacay vibe. The location of the house is quite far from any sort of action.. but that is just being on the Hilo side of the island. We had one major issue with this rental- the beds. The ‘mattresses’ are so so bad. They (all 3) are so soft. They reminded us of blow up air mattresses you use camping where you sink 1/2 a foot into the ‘bed’, and each night your back gets more and more sore. We couldn’t understand why a rental would choose SUCH a soft mattress? Why not something more neural. It’s 3 days later and my husband and I are still talking each day about how sore our backs are, and we are in our mid 30s. Those are the worst beds of any rental I’ve ever experienced.

The Hilo Shangrila is an amazing vacation rental. The house is located in a quiet neighbourhood about a 30 minutes drive from Hilo. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The labelling of light switches and kitchen cupboards made it very easy to find the right one. The property manager was very helpful and quick to respond with questions or problems we had. The waterfront pool combined with the ocean view was fantastic. From the pool we could observe turtles in the ocean coming up for air. Only the bedrooms are equipped with AC but the rest of the rooms have ceiling fans. I will always remember this place, because I got engaged here.

We absolutely loved our stay at Hilo ShangriLa. Everything was as described. The home is very comfortable and well stocked. The weather was cooler and rainy for part of our stay, so we didn't make a lot of use of the pool, but the hot tub was perfect. Watching the waves by the pool was incredible. We saw several sea turtles riding the waves and the sunrises/sunsets are breathtaking. Communication was excellent. We saw some amazing things on the island, but justsitting on the patio watching the waves was a highlight of our vacation. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if we had the opportunity to return.

Everything was as-advertised and the ocean front views were amazing! Check in was easy and the house was easy to navigate. The hot tub got alot of use! The only negative was that the pool light didn’t work, so effectively made the pool useless after sunset. Other than that, great experience!

If your objective is to "get away from it all" in comfort and Aloha, this is your place on the Big Island. The detail of the house is on another level: the personal artifacts and house arrangement was extremely thoughtful and complete: you were sharing someone's personal home. The cleanliness was also "on another level"; everything was nicely organized and labeled......everything you think you might need is there (and more !). Complete information on hand: a very detailed and well orgnaized binder offering tons of information in regards to places to dine, things to do etc..
