What a great spot to unwind!

Great location! Just a few steps from the ocean. The house was clean and well equipped. Everything was in working condition. We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Looking forward to returning!

Excellent location and access to the beach, horses almost every day in the yard. John was wonderful in communicating with me to navigate to his location since my nav system on my iphone would have landed me in the ocean! The dogs LOVED being on the porch looking at the horses, easy on and off to the beach. Just a nice homey feel to this "treasure" cabin. Argh!

Great location for nice relaxing stay! House was very clean and comfortable. Good outside spots too! We used the screened porch the most to catch the breeze. We saw horses everyday and dolphins in the ocean in the morning and evenings - it was a great treat! One thing I would do for next time would be to make sure to have food for the first night and next morning before arriving to the house after a long day of travel to avoid having to go out on the beach road again the first night we got there. Hope we can visit again soon!

This home checks all the boxes for a enjoyable yet affordable beach getaway!

We loved our stay here. The house is perfect for family with nice bedrooms, baths, well stocked kitchen, and lower level game room. Perfect location to the beach. On our first day, we had to wait to get in because one of the wild horses was having a bite to eat in the yard! We all agreed it was a great traditional beach house and the owners take great care in making it nice and comfortable. The drive in is no joke but great fun once you get used to it.

The cottage and location exceeded our expectations! The cottage was very clean and well stocked. We saw the horses everyday, either right at the cottage or on the beach!!! The most relaxing vacation we have had in quite a while. Hope to be back again next year!!

Although the weather was not the best, we still enjoyed our vacation, enjoyed walks along the beach. For my wife, the best part is when had visits from the horses, that was the selling point of the house her. The house is cleaned and maintained. The proximity to the ocean was very nice, even my dog liked that. I would recommend the property

The home owner was very friendly and helpful. We had to book and rebook this trip several times because of a hurricane and then personal reasons. We finally made it there last week. The property is almost to the Virginia border. You drive 9 miles up the beach to get to the property. The area is very beautiful. Its secluded. Not many people at all. Its a 30+ minute drive to the town if you want to eat out or grocery shop. We saw the wild horses everyday just about. They came right up to the property. The property itself is nice. Its older. Its quaint. There is a very nice fire pit area for a bonfire. There are a couple of different porch options to sit on. One screened in with a table and barstools and a couch and chair. The living room has a small sofa and a recliner and two rocking chairs. The kitchen is well equipped. There are 3 bedrooms. My daughter loved the room with the bunk beds (4). There was a master suite and another bedroom with a bathroom across the hall from it. The property does have a washer and dryer. All that being said, the property could use a little updating to spruce it up. Also, the porch areas need to be looked at. The porch off the kitchen had nails sticking up out of the flooring. The screened in porch ceiling was dingy. There is another suite at the bottom of the house that we found. That room is very nice too with a bed, bathroom and small living area with a poker table. All in all it is a charming house in a beautiful location. Just needs TLC.

This is such a great place! So close to the beach, has everything you need for your stay and the horses come through the property daily!

We had a great time! It took 30min using 4x4 on the beach to get here-it was so adventurous! We saw a lot of cars stuck that used AWD, so 4x4 is necessary. Because it was so adventurous to get here, it cut the crowds down,, we had the entire beach to ourselves for most days. We saw horses and the seashells were amazing. The house had everything we needed- even the things we forgot. The kids enjoyed playing ‘pirates’ and all the games. They also enjoyed having a TV in their bedroom. There was plenty of space; it was really perfect for what we needed. We hope to be back next year!

This house was clean, cozy and just the right size for our family trip. We wanted a private, non-crowded getaway and that is exactly what we got! We enjoyed the beach drive to get there, being so close to the beach and came just to see wild horses. We were able to see them every day of our stay and they were in the yard for quite a bit one afternoon! We had everything we needed

We were very impressed with the cleanliness and layout of this adorable cottage by the sea! The screened in porch and outdoor sitting and dining areas were perfect for morning coffee and meals, and a great hangout spot for dogs! We enjoyed listening to the waves and seeing the wild horses grazing from the many porches. The home is aesthetically pleasing with a vintage, beachy vibe. Materials and supplies are well organized. It’s just a short walk over the dune to the quiet, peaceful waters of Carova! We will definitely be back!

This is our second stay at Teaches Retreat and we loved it even more this time than last time (and last time we loved it A LOT!)! The newest baby horse and it's family spent quite a lot of time in the yard nursing and napping. Plus we saw deer, rabbits, frogs, dolphins, all kinds of birds. We also saw the most beautiful sun rises and sunsets and several solar phenomenon (circumzenith arcs, sun dogs, solar halos, solar pillars). On top of that, we watched Falcon 9 launch from Florida! And dark skies were an absolute treat! Hurricane Ian struck the last weekend we were there and the owners were very gracious in helping us understand all our options for safety, including offering to extend our stay if needed. I highly recommend this property and hope to return again in the future!

We loved everything about Teaches Retreat: the location, the vibe, the fully stock kitchen, the screened porch, etc. etc. Pictures don’t do it justice: it is definitely exceeded our expectations when we first walked in and throughout our stay. The house is simple, but very welcoming and clean, and also has lots of thoughtful touches, which made it comfortable for our family with small children and a dog. We appreciated clean water for drinking and cooking and all the essential items in the kitchen and otherwise. You can feel that the owners understand that it is not a short drive to get the supplies and have everything one needs (or may have forgotten to bring) to enjoy vacation worry free. Quick and easy walk to the beach even if you are carrying a one year old baby and all the beach gear. We opted to walking most of the days even though beach parking pass was provided. Without a doubt this is one of the best vacation homes we ever rented.

Location was fantastic which allowed us to fully enjoy our time.

This was a great experience, at a great property. Its location is super convenient to the beach, a 2 second drive or a 1 minute walk, which ever you choose. The screened in porch was a daily start and end for both my wife and I - Great place to enjoy your coffee, as well as your evening cocktails. The wild horses were regular visitors to the yard, often standing right below you on the deck. We came over packed due to the distance back to civilization and stores (which was our main draw to Carova), but the house was extremely well stocked, even condiments and dry goods if needed. We wouldn’t hesitate to rent this house or from John again, in fact we are picking dates for next year already. Thanks again for the great stay!

Gorgeous spot and so homey. Loved it!

My family stayed at this house for 2 weeks in July. The house was extremely clean and comfortable. It was so nice to have TVs that actually worked in every room. The water quality was great. This house has clean water to drink. So many other houses in the 4x4 have water quality issues. The location was perfect. A very easy 2 minute walk to the beach. Overall, great house and location! We all had a wonderful time.

We so enjoyed our time at Teaches!! The home was close to the beach and was well equipped with everything we needed. We had one small issue with the outside shower not working but it was quickly resolved!

This property was great for our OBX vacation. Perfect location. John was very helpful with answering questions prior to stay. We will definitely be back.

We really enjoyed our stay at Teaches Retreat. Seeing wild horses everyday and driving on the sand was a first for us. We loved it! The house is amazing too. It has plenty of room and is equipped with everything you need.

We have always gone to Hatteras Island but decided to try something different and go North where the horses are. Once I seen Teaches Retreat I did not look any further. We got there Saturday around 5 and seen probably 10 horses on the way to the house. The 10 mile Beach ride to the house was pretty cool. House was exactly how I expected it to be. Daine, myself and our two dogs had an incredible week with beautiful weather every day and several days had horses in the yard. The house felt very homey and we hope to come back again.

Although Mother Nature was extremely unkind to us on our vacation, John and Kim’s house was perfect for our family. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were comfortable, and John was quick to reply with answers to any questions. We would’ve loved to enjoy the fire pit, hang out on the enclosed porch, and lounge on the beautiful beach. The weather did not cooperate at all. Thank you, Davis’s for sharing your home with us!

Enjoyed our stay, the house the is great, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with plates, utensils and cookware, we cooked a few meals. The house is a in a great location practically on the beach! John was nice enough to call us before we arrived to alert us about the weather and tides since it was raining pretty heavily. Make sure you air down your tires at the lighthouse park before you hit the beach!

Fire pit and accommodations were just what we were looking for. Special thanks for the fire wood the owner left for us. Great get away!

This is a great family vacation spot. Especially with small children and a dog. We lived the closeness to the ocean, the screened in porch and lighting the campfire while listening to the waves.

The house is wonderful. It is in an isolated part of the OBX, takes about 30 minutes to get to pavement and driving on the beach is fun. We had horses in our front yard every day, the beach was a stones throw away and walking the dogs throughout the area almost felt like you were in a wilderness at times. The house was clean and fresh, everything was provided and the owner, John was available had we needed him for anything. We spent hours on the beach and hours on the screened in porch. Was a little too windy to light up the fire pit but we were pleasantly surprised John left plenty of wood for us. Can’t wait to come back!

This is the second time we have come here and will definitely be booking again. Can't recommend this place enough and the hosts are awesome.
