I stayed at this property with some friends last weekend. In the days leading up to our stay, Yi was very responsive, and more than happy to answer any questions I had. Our check in process could not have been easier, and upon arrival the home was just as clean and spacious as it looks in the photos. We greatly appreciated the small touches such as coffee and a snack bowl. The backyard is huge and the perfect place to share a meal or just relax. I would stay here again anytime I am in the area!

Great communication and is a very understanding host.

Our stay at the Topanga Retreat was enjoyable enough. However, we were surprised at the clutter in the house - especially in the garage. Looked like a hoarder's house as you couldn't even get into the garage for the "stuff" that was in it. The washer wasn't working and the owner did not notify us of this issue before we arrived. The kitchen was dirty and we had to run utensils, dinnerware, cookware, etc., through the dishwasher before we could use them. Needless to say, the kitchen was cleaner when we left than it was when we arrived. Also, there is no cable or satellite television. A cheap digital antenna was in the main living room, but the TVs in the bedrooms had no reception. Fortunately, I had a Fire Stick that allowed my family to watch television. This could be a very enjoyable place to stay if the owner will invest a little time and money into cleaning and updating it.

This house was such a beautiful and spacious place for me and my large group of friends. There were plenty of comfortable surfaces to sleep on for the entire group of 15 people! The kitchen was cute and functional, the backyard was spacious and gorgeous, and the bedrooms were cozy. The only issue with this rental was the neighbors. There was a basketball hoop in the backyard so we decided to shoot around. The ball went over the neighbors fence and my friends went to ring the neighbors doorbell to see if we could get it back. The neighbors were unreasonably intimidated by my friends request for the ball back, so they complained to the host and threatened to call the police. The host was very understanding that the reaction was unreasonable and I really appreciated the way the host communicated with me about the situation. The host also explained that usually those neighbors don't have any issues with people staying in the rental. Guess we caught them at a bad time! In the end, we still had a wonderful stay for our New Years celebration and no police were called :). I would recommend this rental for everyone!

Great place! Perfect the owner even made some touches such a leaving breakfast cereal and chips to munch on. Lots of room. It gets hot being in the valley especially. The owner had fans on top of the air conditioning but it was still hot during certain time of the day. We had a nice time and it was perfect for our family!

Overall impression of the property is that it is NOT what the pictures show. The front yard had a lot of weeds, the back yard not well kept. Yard furniture old and dirty, cobwebs everywhere. The yard is NOT beautiful, lush yard as pictures showed. AC not functioning upon arrival, however the listing stated it had AC. Portable AC units are not enough to cool the whole house during summer. Owner said parts were coming in and should be fixed, same story every day. Tried to negotiate with owner for a partial refund she would not work toward a resolution. Most board games empty, some electrical hazards, linens needed washing based on poor upkeep of home, no front porch light and 3 car garage not usable due to hoarding. False advertising, and possibly fraud, not honest business practices. Submitted a formal complaint to VRBO.

The pictures do not reflect the home at all. Kitchen counter crumbling in places held together with tape in another spot. AC was not working when we arrived it was 90 degrees outside. We were told that the AC freezes up if used more than a couple of hours a day. The number of box fans in the house suggests this is an ongoing problem. Not worth the price.

We all have a very good time! The place is gorgeous and a lot of entertaining things to do for me and my friends. We have a blast here! Thank you!

The house and yard were great! the backyard patio lights were vary beautiful and the noise from neighbors is not terrible. and and a few of my old college buddies has a blast catching up here... sitting in the living room... and watching some basketball before we went to a nice and close by dinner!

Stayed one night, the property was clean and spacious - accomadated 10 people throughout the day with ease since the backyard is pretty well-sized, 4 of us stayed the night. Beds were easy to sleep in, and the natural light in the house made the morning feel fresh.

The place was dirty. The dishes in the cabinets were dirty. The house was musty. Communication on how to get in was poor. I wouldn’t recommend.

We arrived and found the front yard to be mostly dead plants and dead weeds. The yard ended at old rusted furniture no one would ever sit on. There was metal ducting tossed to one side. Pictures DEFINITELY don't represent the house. Kitchen counter tiles were missing. Some cupboards stuffed with items, I'm not sure what for or why. There was a large hole in the living room wall partially covered with blue painters tape. This tape was also used on the screen door at eye level to show the screen when closed. Both sides of the house were filled with old objects such as broken furniture and ladder storage. These had been here so long the cobwebs were well established. One of the outdoor tables set up for use was broken. STYLE WISE: this house has been decorated with many mismatched items such as end tables, lamps, counter stools and linens. Thrift store shopping! We only stayed our one night because we couldn't find another location, not even a hotel. Please read the agreement carefully. We were also charged for visitors who only spent a few hours with us. Sadly. The house has good bones but its presentation is awful.

As college students who are used to frat houses, this property worked just fine, but for anyone else, I think it would have been a disappointment. Not the cleanest and the photos are not necessarily the most representative of the actual state of the property.

Wish the property would have been a little cleaner. A few dead bugs around the house and lots of dust. Other than that it was great!

Annoying to talk to the property manager the entire time about 2 guests visiting.Then I had to pay for someone to visit? That's a joke

There were so many problems with this rental, all I can do is urge anyone looking to stay here to NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. First off, I received no check in instructions at all. I had to call and text the number provided multiple times in order to finally get a hold of the owner. When she finally answered, she said she was at the house dealing with a water issue. This was 30 minutes before check in. She still did not give me any check in instructions, only asked when I would like to arrive. I let her know that I would've liked to arrive at check-in but would wait for the issue to resolve. Fast forward to 4 hours after check in, and she is still at the house. The water issue is dealt with, but now I walk into a house that feels like a hot box. She now decides to tell me that the air conditioning is broken. It is July in Los Angeles so that is just absolutely unacceptable. She has bought the standing air units but we need to leave all the doors open so the exhaust goes outside. So they do not do much to cool, especially in 90+ degree heat in the afternoon. She proceeds to act like this is no problem when I am already dripping sweat having been there for 5 mins. The upstairs only has one AC unit so the other two bedrooms just had to deal with a fan pushing hot air around. It was impossible to sleep at night. On top of that, she required us to empty the trays underneath the AC units since they leaked and would probably fill up with water. This was an insane ask and something that we had to deal with and clean up the entire weekend. I told her then and there that I would expect a credit, since not only was check in late but this AC issue was not at all what was promised and I wasn't alerted about it at all until I actually checked in. I spent far too much on this rental and it came with no central air and she thought a measly amount would cover the inconveniences. Lastly, a week after the rental period she contacts me and says she found a dark spot under one of the AC units and wants the damage to be repaired by VRBO so she is going to put it on my booking but tells me "not to worry" since I have damage protection. I had nothing to do with this dark spot on the wood, if anything it's from her AC units leaking water constantly. She is trying to rip off not only the renters, but VRBO as well and she shouldn't be able to rent at all

When we arrived at the property, there was a random maintenance guy there, the owner had not told us there was going to be a maintenance person there upon arrival. He had all the doors open and it was very sketchy. When we entered the house, it was about 90 degrees inside. And the maintenance guy told me the AC was not working. The house was scorching hot and it was not pleasant. I texted the owner because she had not told me this was going to be a problem. The house listed that there was Central AC, and it didn't work. She offered to bring 2 portable AC's but they didn't even work. I would NOT stay at this property. Please save your money and don't be fooled by the spacing of the house. It was very old and didn't even seem clean. Very upset. I'm contacting VRBO to see if there's anything they can do for me since the owner lied about the AC conditions and some of my guests didn't stay because they couldn't handle the heat.

The home made you feel welcome. Although furniture is old and backyard needs work it is still a great place and I would stay again.

It was perfect for my friends and I, and the owner was so nice and had great communication.

The property has a great backyard I was able to enjoy an outdoor meal with my family. We enjoyed the spaciousness of the home as well as the quiet neighborhood. The home did smell of cigarettes when we arrived, and so we needed to open all the windows and air it out. The smell did go away quickly and we did enjoy our stay very much!

Had a nice stay with friends at the house. Docking stars mostly because 1) house is a bit more run down than photos appear 2) poor host communication. Requested in advance to be able to check in early with the host, but she was slow to respond and unable to give me an update until about 1 hour before our reservation started, which made it a moot point.

I hate to give a less than stellar review, but I believe future guest should be warned of anything less than an excellent stay. To begin, check in time was supposed to be at 4:00pm. We asked but weren’t granted early check in, which is fine since that was never guaranteed. However we didn’t even receive a response with check in instructions until we arrived at 4:00pm from host in person, who was still there cleaning until about 4:30pm.Upon arrival we discovered a shattered sliding glass door, that went to the backyard, that had been boarded up with plywood on one side and had some sort of sheet attempting to hide it on the other. There was absolutely no prior indication that the property was damaged before discovering it ourselves. When questioned, host claimed someone bumped it and brushed it off as if it was insignificant. We hosted a small dinner reception, that we got approved by host, and this was quite embarrassing to say the least. Also the master bedroom balcony is unsafe and a hazard to put it lightly. Three women stepped out on the balcony and it sounded like it was about to come down. When inspected, its support beam underneath is clearly cracked all the way through, and it’s only a matter of time until a guest takes a two story fall. Making a major selling point off limits the whole trip.The final complaint is that the two garbage bins were completely packed and in the street when we arrived, so we had absolutely nowhere to put trash for our 3 day stay. There wasn’t even extra kitchen trash bags to fill up.These are things you wouldn’t think you’d be dealing with when renting, or at least given fair warning prior. Despite all this we still had the decency to clean and leave the house as we came, if not a little better(besides said trash bags that we had nowhere to put).Other than that the stay was fine as we made the best of the situation, it was just extremely hard to look past all of the faults we encountered. Again, I hate to leave a bad review, house could be great with everything fixed and useable.

It was a really great overnight stay we enjoyed having a friend gathering nice and peaceful :)

Everything was perfect

We were happy to be in such a spacious house, we all had our own bedroom and bathrooms. The living room was large and spread out, the dining room accommodated us perfectly and the kitchen was easy to cook in. The backyard was awesome, so tranquil, green and with large trees that sheltered us from neighbors. We also enjoyed the drive through Topanga Canyon, and that you come out of the canyon right at the beach! We would stay here again.
