The location was great for our needs. It was close to our friend's home which was within walking distance, and very near the venue for the event we were attending.

There were some minor cleanliness issues. Also, the cleaning team showed up while we were at breakfast (about 2 hours before check-out time).

I was traveling through the Western States for business. All I wanted was an inexpensive place to spend one night. $136 seemed a bit high, but since this was Memorial Day weekend, and the description sounded like a cottage in the mountainous countryside north of Big Bend, I thought it would be worth a bit more than I could have paid at a regular motel. I was so surprised when the total charge came to $211, due to a $50 cleaning charge that Booking obscured in fine print. Then upon arrival I was disappointed to find that I had rented a completely furnished suburban style house. It would be a great place for a family or class reunion lasting several days, but it was completely unsuited to my needs. Also, if I had booked a normal hotel/motel, the person at the front desk could likely have given tips on places to eat, and a bit of information on the history and geology of the Alpine TX region, which are quite interesting. There was none of this information in the guest information booklet. This was a losing experience for everyone involved. I paid more than I could afford and got less than I expected. The owner/manager have been dinged with a bad review for inaccurately representing the property. And Booking.com has further undermined its reputation as a reliable accommodation site. SHAME ON BOOKING.COM FOR TRYING TO GRAB THE AIRBNB-TYPE MARKET, WHILE BEING LESS TRANSPARENT THAN AIRBND ABOUT EXTRA COSTS, SUCH AS CLEANING. Next time I will try to use another reservation service.
