Great place to stay, easy access to the bus and the beach

I booked through VRBO, but it was another company, Vacasa, who owned the property. There were no actual people to talk to about early check in, just a customer service line which wasn’t helpful. One of the window ACs leaked every time it was on but it was too hot to not have it on. There were ants all over the kitchen sink. While we stayed we got a mean note from a neighbor stuck in the door complaining about the radio antenna and about the yard brush pushed onto their property, which obviously have no knowledge of, so then we just felt like the neighbors were watching us and it made the stay uncomfortable. I wrote a complaint to Vacasa, the company who owned the property, and heard nothing back.

The cottage has potential as it’s right in madaket near Millie’s. Unfortunately the decor & furnishings are stuck in 1957. Needs beds, mattresses, towels, new fridge, new kitchen cabinets, shades for lamps, etc. As an owner of rental property on Cape Cod I would never present a place in this poor condition. Very disappointing.

The positives: generally clean; adequately equipped kitchen and bathrooms; on bike path to Madaket Beach and Cliff Rd; not a place you’ll have to be too neat; cable and Netflix active; abundant and interesting books all about; ample parking. The not so positives: dated and worn infrastructure; musty smell on arrival; one decent double bed, while the other double and two twins had saggy mattresses; backyard and patio poorly maintained. All in all probably not bad for the price.

Love the 1957 house! The house is roomy and unique with amazing decor. We walked to the beach and Millie’s every day. Biked into town and to Bartlett farm and Cisco Brewers. Great place to see Nantucket

Obviously this is an older property. That’s not a problem until you walk in and its age punches you in the nose. Literally. There is a musty odor that permeates everywhere and everything. It will ruin your stay. It’s in every room, every pillow and linen, and all the furniture. You’ll want to open windows and let a breeze help you out but the windows and screens are so ancient they are virtually unusable. The bedding was subpar, old mattresses with very little life left in them. Not comfortable. The kitchen, while decent and “clean” and usable, was also loaded with tiny ants which were a constant nuisance. Nantucket is expensive, and this place is no different. But you will not get your money’s worth here under any circumstance. Either spend more on a better property or vacation somewhere else. You’ll spend your entire time here wanting to leave.

This house has so much potential but what is needs first and foremost is a thorough cleaning. There were cobwebs and spiders everywhere! It had a very musty smell as if no one had been there for months/years. It was also incredibly hot. The a/c really only worked in one room. We were so disappointed. It could be a such a charming place once it’s had some serious upkeep.

The house was great. Just as expected. No air conditioning, but you really didn't need it as the nights were very cool. Location is good. Walk to Millies and hop on the bus to town for $3. We loved Nantucket.

The initial listing showed AC but we arrived to find no AC and the listing had been modified which is very suspicious. Also there were mounds of trash left from the previous guest

We had a great time in Madaket. The house was completely sufficient for our needs. We spent most of our time outside but enjoyed our time in and on the back porch as well.

The 1957 House is not fancy, but is has charm and a warm comfortable feeling. The location is tranquil - Right on bus route to get to town (in season). If you want fancy and modern, don’t stay here. The furniture, linens, etc are dated and worn - but clean! We would stay here again.
