What a great week with the whole family! First time since they were kids perfect harmony of rest and exploration. The pool was great for the little one. And everyone enjoyed low tide exploring.
Thank you Kate!

It is important to remember that this is, as stated, a traditional cottage. Otherwise, the exterior of the cottage might seem disappointing upon arrival. It is, however, reasonably updated inside and run by an exceptional host who is responsive, thoughtful and has ensured that the cottage is clean, comfortable and has all expected amenities, and more. Having a private pool in Maine, although a little chilly, was an excellent perk. Moreover, the location was perfect for freely exploring what the coast has to offer, both onsite and an easy day trip to Acadia. We hope to return!

The location provides a short walk down to the ocean and it’s so much fun to walk out to the islands at low tide. The pool was a plus. The kitchen was well stocked (almost like someone lives there). The kitchen needed a good cleaning as did the sofa which smelled like a wet dog. Steps had dog hair as did some floors. I would call it a bit rustic, which was fine. Don’t miss Pugnuts for ice cream!

Our family greatly enjoyed our week in this comfortable cabin. It was well-supplied with everything we needed and had plenty of living space, both indoors and out. Lots of beautiful local walks and reasonable drive to Acadia. Dinner at the Brooklin Inn was fantastic!

We loved the house, spaciousness, and location. The kitchen was wonderfully well supplied, the mattresses were comfortable and in good shape, and the screened porch was a daily delight. The pool furniture was all high quality. Our only suggestion is that the master bedroom deck doors offer more privacy than they do now (curtains or shades). We would happily return.

We had a great week at the Flying Jib. We traveled with 3 young kids and we had a great week. There is plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, the pool was fantastic, and we walked down to the ocean almost every day. I wish we had brought our bikes or a folding beach cart to walk the kids down to the water, but we managed. We've stayed in multiple locations in Brooklin, Stonington, Brooksville. etc. and we REALLY enjoyed the location of the Flying Jib. It's secluded, quiet but yet still relatively close to a variety of things to do (hikes, restaurants, etc.). We would definitely stay here again.

Flye Point in Brooklin, ME is simply stunning. We enjoyed a true Maine experience in this vacation cottage. The pool was a nice to have in August, and Kate is a terrific host. We had a wonderful week.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this lovely cottage which truly captured everything our imaginations had expected from vacationing on the coast of Maine. The cottage was comfortable, clean, and quiet. All of the places we wanted to go were within (at most) an hour’s drive. Kate was a wonderful, responsive hostess, always available to answer questions about the area and provide suggestions of places to go. Wonderful experience!

As a Mainer, I feel it’s important to vacation at “home”, too. Every other year we spend at least a week in Maine so that we can support our Maine community. This was our first time staying at here. Here are some of our favorite things:
1. It’s secluded. Away from the hustle and bustle of Maine’s summer vacationland. However, you are a 15-30 minute drive to everything you might need/want while here.
2. The access to the ocean. A 5-7 minute walk and you can explore, swim, rest, walk, read, etc.,,, We found sea urchins, sea glass, and other sea treasures. We didn’t find as many sea stars, but we wonder if it’s because the water felt warmer (not warm at all) than usual for this time of year. We had several exploration days.
3.The house itself is definitely a Maine sea cottage vibe with lots of History. A grill/patio area, a covered porch, living room area, and a pool patio area were some of the places to escape and relax.
4. The pool. We only used it 1x and it was one of the main reasons we chose the house. (Ocean and pool means my teens would be happy.Less fighting! Ha!) but, the weather did not cooperate.
5. The host was awesome with communication and being helpful. She was lovely. She even helped us find some treasure hunting hot spots.
We also enjoyed visits to Brooklin Inn for dinner, Blaze, and got lobsters off the pier in Stonington….so fun!!!! I would definitely pack some warmer clothes for evening just in case temps drop. We hope to come back! Thank you!

Family Vaca August 2021
This is a nice cozy place, it is off the beaten path so it was very relaxing for our family to disconnect from the outside noise of city life. We were able to source local lobsters, oysters and clams for two meals. We were able to feed and seat 9 people by using two tables. The pool was relaxing and we played some games so we didn't use the TV. The owner of the property responds quickly either by phone or email.

Beautiful Down East Experience
This is a lovely spot on Flye Point. The house is an interesting mixture of old cottage and newer addition and care has been taken to provide a variety of essentials. The deck overlooking the ocean was perfect for morning coffee and most evenings we dined on the enclosed porch. The pool is in good shape and we enjoyed playing cornhole on the deck. This is a great place to get away and experience the Maine coast (and there's even a wild blueberry field up the road!). It isn't necessarily what we would recommend if you're looking for a lively setting with lots of restaurant choices.

Wonderful stay, lovely cottage!
We had an amazing week at this property. We had a mix of adults, teens and children, and everyone had a blast! I did not expect to have a pool in Maine, but the kids really enjoyed it! The house is an older home, but we were all very comfortable and had plenty of space to spread out. It took a little over an hour to get to Acadia, sometimes traffic was heavy, but it was not a bad drive. We did not get to explore the local area as much as I had wanted (Acadia was incredible and we spent several days there!). There was no lack of things to do locally, but like I said, we just ran out of time! We all felt the house was extremely well equipped, the kitchen was well stocked and so nice to have plenty of towels and bedding! Blue Hill had all we needed for groceries, and the Christmas store had the best prices on lobster!

What more can you ask for?!?!?
Great communication at all points in the rental process. Home was exactly as listed! Our large family fit comfortably. We spent so many hours of quality family time either in the pool or in the ocean exploring. Acadia national park, bar harbor and so many nice little towns to explore within an hour drive. Loved the thoughtfulness of the small things they have in the house you may not always think about while headed on vacation ie. bandages, flashlights, off, pool toys just to name a few. Thank you John for everything you do/did to make everything so wonderful! We will be back!!!

Great Stay
This was our first trip to Maine and we didn’t know what to expect. The home was perfect for our needs and set in a remotely cool area. Amazing views and simply beautiful days. Bar harbor is where we went for shopping and boat rides, but there were truly great things everywhere. We truly loved it!!!

Wonderful experience—wish we were still there
We loved our 10 days at the Flying Jib. Greatly enjoyed the house, pool, trail to the beach and the well appointed kitchen. The only challenge for us was slow Wi-Fi and we still needed to work. That said John and Barry worked with us and we managed to work and more importantly really love our visit. We wish we were there now. It was one of our best family get aways.

MAINE!!!
WE knew we were in Maine when sitting on the deck looking out at the coast. My family loved walking down to the beach and almost to the island at low tide( It got too dark)
Any problems we encountered were handled by Barry in a timely manner.
We spent many hours in the pool
A trip to Arcadia National Park was a big hit with everyone and of course popovers at Jordan Pond House!

Family Vacation Headquarters
If you need a place for the whole extended family this place with its heated pool, glassed porches, and private location will fit the bill. If you cook as we do, the kitchen has all you need. Bring your clothes, thats it. It is all here from soup to nuts. It has the old cottage feel with modern amenities, three bathrooms, and room to spread out. The view of Flye Point from the master bedroom and upstairs porch is lovely and ever changing. There are a lot of places to visit in this area, but you tend to just hang out here and hit the pool.

Wonderful place for an extended family vacation. Charming home in a great location.
We had a great week with our two sons and their families. Seeing the ocean in the distance and walking to nearby islands at low tide each morning will always be memorable.
Everyone enjoyed the heated pool. It was very clean as was the house. It was great to have linens and towels provided as well as paper products. The kitchen was very well equipped. We had everything we needed to cook and eat our lobster feast!
The owner is gracious and quick to respond to any concerns.

Very special place
Ten of us stayed st Flying Jib and loved the entire experience. Beautiful setting, wonderful morning morning walks to observe the beauty of high and low tides. The owners were very helpful with any questions and the caretaker checked in to see if we needed anything. Town of Brooklin as well as nearby Blue Hill and Stonington were lovely. Acadia National Park was easy to get to. We had everything we needed.

Flying Jib in August 2016
Overall, we had an excellent week at Flying Jib. We were three families (12 people total - 6 adults, 6 children). We enjoyed the rustic-ness of the old part of the house! The pictures really show what to expect. The kitchen served well, and was well equipped with dishes, cooking items, etc. We used the propane lobster cooker many times during our stay, as well as the grill. The kids loved the option of a pool (heated too!) after a day of sightseeing in Acadia and surrounding areas. Being able to walk to the beach was great (although the path could use a little maintenance - overgrowth). We also walked through the Outlook property to go to the beach area. Really fun at low tide! We were surprised at how nice the view was from the deck/porch. The pictures with the listing don't do it justice!
Bathrooms were plentiful for our large group, and the house is very well stocked with lots of towels, extra sheets, dishtowels and pool towels. They also have the house stocked with TP, paper towels, dish soap, etc.
John was super helpful in our communications and planning. He responded within just hours every time I sent a question.
I do agree with others that the internet could use some enhancing - usable, but slow. Future renters do need to be aware that this is an older home, by the sea, so there are some mold issues (basement area).

Three families, a lot of fun
We had an excellent time at the Flying Jib. Everyone involved in the rental process is extremely accommodating, and Richard ensured our stay was comfortable by maintaining the property as needed. Our party had three families - two from Maine and one from Turkey including three small children. Nobody was bored throughout the entire week. We took full advantage of the walking trails through the woods and on the coast, trips to Bar Harbor, a lobster meal from the local store, and of course the wonderful pool. I would say we spent 75% of our time in the pool, as the weather was gorgeous and the children wouldn't have it any other way. The location is private and the locals are extremely friendly. Personally, my favorite part was the view we had at night of the ocean - very peaceful. We will definitely return for another visit. I encourage those who visit to venture out to the island with two trees, it is a great place at low tide.

Great stay
This was the first time my family and I have rented a house and we loved it! We usually spend less time in Maine because we tend to rent a hotel instead, but it was an amazing experience being able to stay somewhere that felt like home. Even though there weren't too many of us, we were all able to have our own rooms and were still able to have a great time. Everything was extremely handy as well. We enjoyed the patio so much, we prepared dinner almost every night on there. As a family who doesn't normally swim, it was nice to be able to go out and spend time in the pool practically every day. As much as we loved being there, there were only a few hangups that we encountered. The pathway to the beach was a great walk, but was hindered by the large amount of branches that were in the way, so they could use a bit of cleaning up. It was nice to have internet in the house, but seeing as how people consume media through it more often now, it would be of better interests if the internet was faster than dsl. Overall, we had such a positive experience with the house that we plan on coming back next July! If we could refer people who want a Maine vacation, we would definitely tell them about here. We thank you for having such a great property for us to rent so we could have a great stay!

Disappointing stay
My wife and I and some of our family stayed at this house in early July. Seeing the excellent reviews online and the wonderful pictures, we were very excited about this trip. What we found during our stay was nothing but disappointing however. Upon getting to this house, it appears to be clean. This is only at first glance though. Dead moths and live roaches surrounded the place nearly to the point of the infestation. The windowsills were particularly disturbing. We found literally dozens of dead moths piled up between the windows and the screens. Cobwebs were literally everywhere. The flowers and bushes surrounding the pool were infested with ticks. To tell you how little care they put it in, they propped up the curtains with safety pins! The corn hole game was eaten out by mice and squirrels. We were very happy to see wonderful bikes that could have been ridden. It was of course inevitable that they had flat tires. The bathrooms were especially dirty with mold found everywhere in both the tubs and the shower curtains. My wife and her sister spent four days cleaning the house top to bottom as we could not stand to spend time in a place that was in that condition. It genuinely made the week not feel like a vacation. I emailed the owner of the home multiple times to fortify him of the condition of this place. We even left two days early because it was so bad. Very, very disappointing.

Northern family vacation!
This house is truly loved and well taken care of! It is obvious the amount of time and concern the owners put into making their guests happy! Everything we needed was there, from freshly made beds and towels, to all the cleaning and cooking supplies we could need! We had a fantastic time and enjoyed all of the amenities of the home. We traveled from the hot and humid south in the summer for a true Maine experience. The swimming pool was fantastic for kids, adults and especially grandma. We are used to warm water and having the heated pool was a bonus. Brooklin is a fabulous little boat building town that my boat building husband spent hours exploring and was treated with great hospitality at the Brooklin Boatyard and from Doug at the Wooden Boat School. We spent many hours looking out on the great view, hiking down the path and along the coast and especially loved the new trail at Hammick Point. The family dog may have had the greatest time hiking and exploring the beautiful surroundings and being able to include her on the trip was also a bonus! Acadia and Bar Harbor were two great day trips of hiking and boating for us and we only wish we had more time to explore the nearby Isle au Haut! We will definitely be returning!

My family had a fantastic time at the Flying Jib. I would highly recommend it. Make sure to take the trail down to the ocean when the tide is low - an absolute amazing experience.

The Flying Jib was a great place for our family reunion! Bringing teenagers the pool was an absolute must have! We were surprised on how large it was and heated too! We made evening fires in the beautiful stone fire place. We were also pleased that all the soaps, cleaning products and paper products were included. That is a rare thing in house rentals. Thanks for a great stay.
