One night stay while vacationing in the area. The grounds and mini golf were an fun added bonus, breakfast had a good variety. The biggest down side was the value for the room rate. Rooms are very dated and need major attention. Our room had an exposed crack in the dry wall and a deep mild dew smell. Over all pretty clean, but over priced.

I messaged ahead of time that we have mobility issues so needed first floor and accessable. The room that we were first booked into was on the side of a hill. The parking space that went with it was very tight and on a steep slope. I called the front office and was moved to a different room in a lower building. The parking lot was flat but full of frost heaves and cement curbs going nowhere but presenting a real risk of falling. I booked the reservation with us bringing our dog but was told that was not reflected in our reservation and it would be an additional per night substantial cha. I nearly panicked and asked about cancelling but was told I would lose everything. The room was dated. It smelled. When I opened the little frig, it fell out of its cubby. The coat hanger rings were rusty, no coffee maker, no microwave. It felt old. The screen door would not open so a very nice repair man came and told us that they are all bent, broken and need replacement. The overall feeling and appearance of the property is run down. When I saw our room, I called the front desk. I said this is not the room I booked. She said that the pictures on the website are of how the rooms will look post renovation. WHAT? I am booking a room that does not exist? That is just not ok. The listing says that there is a restaurant on site. There is not. There is a buffet of greasy bacon, sausages, overcooked eggs and pretty good pancakes. We went to Hannafords bought food and ate in our truck.

We had an amazing stay at Ocean Gate and would highly recommend it to others!

We booked one night at this property on our way up to Canada and were excited for the fun amenities for kids—kayaking, mini golf, pool, which we all enjoyed. The scenery is beautiful, especially being out on the water. The property, however, has seen better days. It appears to be under new ownership that is planning to remodel, which should improve the experience. But in its current condition it was not worth the cost for 1 night in peak season.

It was a good stay. Beds were amazingly comfortable! Staff was very nice.

The view from the room was spectacular. Clean linens and comfortable bed. General cleanliness was good. Facilities wonderful. Breakfast delicious. Friendly and efficient staff. The only drawback to the whole experience was the strong mildew/moldy smell of the carpeting that hit you when you first open the door to the room.

This was a great find! Loved the minigolf, kayaks, laundry facilities, and beautiful view. Like being at camp, only getting your own room. Thank you!

The hotel is old and needs renovations. The breakfast is only served from 8-10, which didn’t fit our schedule. The office closes at 6, leading to complications if you arrive late. Late checkout is available, but for a fee. The pool is 5’5” deep in places, but is only labeled 3’9” on the perimeter, which seems misleading and dangerous. The rooms were large and clean. The property has a lot of potential, but investment and attention to customer experience is disappointingly lacking.

Not quite the picture i saw when i booked it but it was a nice stay. Rustic. Friendly and helpful staff. The property is going through a remodel over the winter so I am looking forward to the updates.

We paid extra for an ocean front room. Our view was very different from the pictures- it was mostly blocked by trees so our balcony was not worth using. Views from other parts of the property were much better. We were given a handicap accessible room so our bathroom was huge and room was much smaller. Overall just not a great experience. Office smelled like cigarettes.

Comfy bed with comfy pillows. 😴 the view was nice and the amenities were great! We loved breakfast and only wished there was a restaurant or bar as well.

what a find. we stayed in waterfront room with a balcony overlooking the bay. watched the lobster boats going in and out, very soothing. The resort even had kayaks and canoes available for use! Well kept and comfortable. only a few minute drive to boothbay harbor. Great place to start our Maine vacation

The resort is quiet and cozy. Definitely bring some food as they only serve breakfast. I like how they have a microwave anyone can use on their pavilion. They also have grills you can use which I really liked. I do wish that they had another grill closer to the pavilion though. If they put one right next to the pavilion it would of been alot more convenient then grilling then walking to the pavilion to eat. Otherwise very happy with the place and I would definitely come back their again

The location is great. The staff is wonderful, but the buildings and grounds could use some updating. The breakfast area was in need of updating, and the breakfast itself was on the low side (Limited food and not the best presentation) I thought it would be much different given they name of the resort, and the overall feel of the place

Rooms were not especially clean and a bit run down. No maid service whatsoever. Hot tub was “broken for the season”. Huh? You have an entire season and don’t bother to fix it? Price was reasonable though

We really enjoyed the pool and the free continental breakfast was delicious. The grounds were beautifully maintained. Lots of activities and everything you need is right there on the property. It was so nice to be able to borrow the bikes, kayaks, canoe. Great spot to take your family!

The property is secluded in the woods on the ocean. Water views from the room are fantastic. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. Pool is beautiful. Kayaking and other sports included. Absolutely loved this resort.

We book an ocean view room but the ocean view was completely obstructed by bushes and trees.

We recently stayed at the ocean gate resort. Despite it needing a little TLC, our room was right on the water. Quietly nestled away from the hustle and bussle it was great. Plenty of activities for a family or a couple great breakfast friendly staff, clean room and grounds. Looking forward to a longer stay next year. Heated pool, kayaks, mini golf. Even saw some seals playing the ocean right from our balcony. Great place to stay.

The room and building I was in had a very nice view, with a porch overlooking the water, and was quite clean. The room I was in was a bit on the shabby side, however, and the bathroom was a bit small. The staff was great, and the options for activities were great also. As a note, all of the various buildings are in the woods or by the water - there were lots of mosquitoes outside, and some inside as well. Bring bug spray.

I really liked the ocean front decks in the morning. You could open up the screen door and hear the birds and smell the tide coming in. I like the ability to use kayaks right from the resort. But unfortunately, on our second morning, someone was smoking on the deck next to us, and we had to shut our door because it was too overwhelming. We were unable to enjoy our last morning on the deck. Also, there is not enough parking when you arrive in the evening after leaving the resort for dinner. We had to park away from our building both nights.

Our 1 night stay was too short but soooo relaxing. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. Each staff member was polite and always smiling. Thank you

Private location, not overrun with people. Facilities are okay, but could use some upgrades. Would return if the chance came up.

Great staff, but the place needs some serious up keep. The hot tub was broken, the gate to the pool was broken, the Air conditioning was leaking into my room soaking the rug.

If you are looking for a rustic setting, this property would be fine. Our particular room was "tired". We enjoyed our stay, although it was not what we expected.

Was concerned at first as you enter on a dirt road, but upon arriving we were very pleased. We had a suite so we had a very large full kitchen, living room with a real fireplace, balcony, king bed and a queen bed and I think a sleeper sofa, two bathrooms. Pool, putt putt golf, tennis, basketball, canoes and kayaks, corn hole toss and a firepit. Wish we could have stayed longer.

We had a great stay. Use of paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes was great. Breakfast was fresh and varied. A relaxing, fun time.

We absolutely loved this location! Beautiful view of the water and sunsets. The travel to nearby Boothbay Harbor and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens was excellent! It was very cool staying on an island too. Our king bed was very comfortable and although a little hard, our teen didnt mind the pullout sofa bed. We enjoyed the outdoor pavillion where we played UNO (bought a travel card set in Boothbay). Our teen enjoyed the pool, we played the mini golf and cornhole for some added fun. Everyone we spoke with were very nice and friendly! It was so much better than a regular hotel. We will definitely go there again! The only downside was the smell from the tide, but nothing you can do about that... part of the living on the ocean experience! The continental breakfast had a great variety and spread out nicely. We loved that you could eat in or outside!
