We had an excellent 2 night stay with Christine at Burnhopeside Hall. The house is charming, the breakfasts are excellent, and the dogs are very friendly. Beautiful gardens and a very convenient spot for Durham, the Sunderland coast, and beyond. Many thanks for the lovely hospitality

Absolutely wonderful place to stay the best of everything! The breakfast was delicious with home grown meat and eggs. Barney the spaniel was a total delight. Christine so kind in every way, we loved all the rooms.

This was absolute 'find'. I stay in hotels regularly as a business traveller, but very rarely do I feel 'spoilt' by getting to stay in such a lovely, well-appointed and superbly run property. Many thanks to Christine for making what I was expecting to be a ‘routine stop over’ into something so much nicer. Your attention to detail and exemplary hosting really are most appreciated.

What a beautiful place to stay! The buildings & grounds are absolutely stunning. I stayed in the farmhouse where I received a warm welcome and was looked after really well by Philip (I think). My room was lovely, the bathroom palatial & the bed was so comfy.

It is in a beautiful position with views all round and yet very convenient for visiting Durham and other attractions nearby.

I travel for work so I stop all over the country and burnhopeside is by far the best place I have ever stopped. The place is absolutely beautiful, proper country residents, the Lady of the house is amazing and goes all out to make her guests feel welcome. Fully VAT compliant so perfect for people out on business. The perfect get away for a couple looking for quite time and beautiful surroundings. Rooms are massive and have open fireplaces, wonderful bathrooms, beautiful lounge and study with a full size snooker table. The estate is dog friendly and the lady of the house has 2 gorgeous dogs that are extremely friendly. Breakfast is amazing with reared pigs from the farm for fresh meat from F to T (farm to table). It's a short drive to Durham centre and can highly recommend the kings head pub for wonderful food that is very generous on portions and won't break the bank. This hotel won an award for best country retreat in 2015, why it's not won every year is beyond me cause I would own a place just like this if me and my other half won the lottery.

Very welcoming. Absolutely great accommodation. Thoughtfully decorated and furnished. We like dogs but not keen on them wandering around looking for food when you are eating breakfast. Happy to take them for a walk. Lovely grounds and in a very quiet location.

We stayed at Burnhopeside Hall for one night in one of their Double Ensuite Rooms. We received a warm welcome on the gravel driveway from Christine and her 2 lovely springer spaniels Max and Barney. The house is a Grade 2 Country House which stands in its own picturesque grounds, down a long driveway, just off the A691 Durham Road. The house itself is steeped with local history, tastefully decorated and is full of charm. It is surrounded by acres of gardens and woodland and is ideal for a relaxing stay in the countryside. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the beds are enormous - super king-size!! Breakfast was a treat - fresh fruit, cereals and best of all, the cooked breakfast included sausages made from their own drift of pigs. Burnhopeside Hall is one of those true gems that one finds every now and again. Our stay was only short, but the warm welcome and relaxed homely atmosphere will certainly bring us back again in the near future.

I travelled to Burnhopeside on a snowy evening and was held up on the way there because of accidents on the A1. I arrived after 11pm and the hosts were there to clear the way down the drive. The breakfast was superb and set me up for the return journey.
