Extended trip at end of Sri Lanka tour. Hotel staff friendly and professional. Excellent buffet breakfast, high tea and dinner. Pool area is a bit public. Renovations happening at time of visit. Outside hotel Lots of Tuk Tuk drivers and men impersonating themselves to be locals giving advise dressed smartly, one man told us he was an engineer which we doubt very much trying to get us on a Gems Tuk Tuk tour. Need to walk near beach if don't want to be annoyed put us off spending more time walking around the city. Not the hotels fault they keep people off the premises. The hotel is located in the tourist area so off course you are targeted.Never felt in danger the touts and drivers were not aggressive.

The initial room we were given was terrible, you could hear the people next door breathing through the adjoining room, not great when you arrive at 5am and want to sleep. I asked to change room and was told none were available, so i contacted hotels.com customer service through the chat, and 10 mins later a room was available and the room was great. I think the hotel needs to be clearer in their type if rooms and could have sorted it out earlier. But from the everything was great.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It was full of old world charm and we could feel the history all around us. Our room was quiet, spacious and very comfortable. The food both breakfast and dinner was delicious and included lots of choice. Staff were very attentive, friendly and keen to make sure our stay was as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Thank you

A really beautiful hotel in a authentic old building. We had a triple room woth sea view , beautiful room but not big enough but ok for 3 persons but i think for a 4,5* hotel the extra bed they put is very bad ,it had the shape of....v. Lobby nice and big, staff very polite smiley and trying to make our atay better . Delicious breakfast. Need some renovations the outside parts and the pool deck but i can understand is difficult. Recommended if you want to feel the old atmosphere of the city

Its a stunning sea view, excellent food and very good staff. Our room upgrade made all the difference. I wish there were more plug points to charge devices (there was just one in a junior suite) and a couple of other small things were missing, but overall it is a great place. I would go again.

Tip 1: ask for no-sea view if there's a wedding function on the sea terrace, if loud music might bother you.
Tip2 : for 1 or 2 travellers going to the airport ask Reception to book you a 7,500 rupee 'kangaroo cab' *private.
The hotel airport transport is good, but better & bigger for a group.

I’m very fond of this historic hotel and lived here for 2 months many many years ago when I was a young child. Stayed here last about 10 years ago when they were doing major renovations. They need to do more. Some things are run down and neglected. The swimming pool decking was broken in multiple places and has not been repaired. The fridge in my room really did not work and the control button was broken. Lots of small maintenance issues that need to be addressed. It smacks of complacency at the top. Staff are good, breakfast was great and it’s a glorious setting. But it’s a very famous hotel resting on its laurels.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Galle Face Hotel! The staff was so kind, and helpful. Truth is that one could not find a better hotel in terms of its location. It is located directly on the Indian Ocean, with spectacular views. The hotels restaurants are awesome with multiple culinary options available. Love this hotel!!!

Great old hotel and nice to stay at but it is very run down in the public areas. The chefs at the breakfast are rude and the food disappointing. Also terrible service around run down pool bar area. Have to run after staff to get them to take an order. Would like to see this place fixed as it’s a beautiful property

The Galle Face Hotel is a heritage 5-star hotel in Colombo. I had booked myself the Heritage Suite and got a beautiful view of the Indian Ocean from two windows. The staff especially the older and more experienced ones take excellent care of the guests. There are many memorable, historic and also cute things about this property. It's an iconic landmark in the city with great dining options. Will stay here again.

I came for a short course at Cotta Road and had a great time at the Galle Face Hotel. The location is unparalleled in all of Colombo perhaps, and the sea seems at your bedside. My room was almost perfect, the service was excellent and the food at breakfast was fresh and had a lot of variety. I request to kindly have some more vegetarian options for breakfast. The Cuban Restaurant King of the Mambo has some exquisite food and drink options. I particularly loved the Wine Cellar at the 1864 restaurant. I wish to come for a longer time for another great experience. Thank you.

Our stay at Galle Face Hotel has indeed been a memorable one. The stunning private balcony attached to our suite overlooking the ocean on one side and the hotel lawns on the other side was just incredible. Breakfast was nice. Fittings were a little old fashioned but then, that's what you can get in a heritage property. Staff was helpful but I wish they had a broader smile on their faces.

The location is perfect. We absolutely loved chilling by the pool and cafes with sea views and breeze. The room was a little dated and service was hit and miss.

Historical hotel in a great location. I loved the antique feel. Compared with the other hotels on the same street this one is the only one with direct ocean access. I liked the large pool and listening to the ocean. It has great restaurants. Awesome buffet and a ocean side restaurant where you can watch the sunset. Negative was that we could hear music until past midnight. Not sure if it was from the restaurant or a noisy neighbor.
