What a hidden gem in Coimbra! My family were totally surprised and enthralled by the room, which had a hot tub and a Turkish bath! The staff were amazing and delivered champagne and cake upon our arrival and a lovely continental breakfast the next morning. The toilet room is very small and mind your head on the ceiling if you are over 6 feet tall. However, the ambiance made up for this little flaw.

Solar antigo is a unique space. Historic and adventurous. Our welcome was extremely friendly and Danielle went out of her way to make us comfortable. We were lucky to find street parking right across the building. Breakfast basket got delivered each morning with lots of goodies. For us the space was a little cramped for a family of 5. Good to note also is that the bathroom door is glass (see through) and the toilet door may not entirely close if you are tall. Personally I think Solar would be ideal for a couple. The spa in the middle of the room which was very luxurious! The hotel is in the heart of the city, close to sightseeing. The university plaza is a must! We had a great time and definitely recommend a visit!

Place is amazing. Worthy to stay. Right on the middle of the Coimbra university and main attractions. Room was beautiful and staff very helpful. 5 star.

Great location and breakfast basket and service but a little cramped due to historic structure. Hot tub, bordello like finishes and furnishings made it tacky.

Was there for our honeymoon and paid extra for a nice room. The room is cool looking (as pictured), but stops there and was not very functional. Was very disappointed as the hot tub did not work, not enough outlets, switch that makes a gurgling noise when you turn it on (used to be a fountain? Not sure), bed very uncomfortable, sauna in the shower burns your feet when trying to step into the room (there should definitely be a warning sign for this-it is a hazard), soap dispenser in the shower also did not work, and to use the toilet it is almost impossible to close the door. Ruined our night that was supposed to be a romantic night, very disappointing, especially for the cost of the room.

This “luxury” priced accommodation is an experience you won’t find elsewhere, however there were so many ways it was less than a luxury stay. It’s true that the setting is within the very old stone walls and there is indeed a hot tub right in the middle of the room. There is also a great shower that is also a sauna. However, the place is already dank from being practically a stone cellar. Adding a water feature means the place smells strongly of mildew. The air system helps but not enough. There are about 30 tiny little candle lights surrounding the tub and NONE of them worked. The afternoon tea cake and juice as well as the breakfast food were just plain bad. The ‘cake’ made on the premises missed any flavor at all. The juice was more water than anything else. The large, impressive bed seemed to hold the strongest mildew smell making it hard to sleep. The staff are quite friendly and helpful, however the desk isn’t always staffed and there were a few times we had to ring a bell and wait for a long time until someone showed up. All in all I was quite disappointed. This place is definitely overpriced.

Room was amazing, just like being in a castle! All stone and had a wonderful hot tub and sauna and the view was great as well.

This room certainly has a wow factor. My kids loved it immediately (10 & 12), and so did I. We loved the hot tub in the room and the sauna. The loo by the bed was a little tricky to navigate especially after the Vinho Verde from the nearby restaurants, which were excellent value.

An amazing historic property. Catia the GM was friendly and professional, always ensuring that our stay was great. With the hot tub, I would suggest to change the towels every day, as the room is a little damp at times. Certainly a very unique property which we would revisit.
