My experience at "The Hotel" in Ahangama, Sri Lanka was extremely disappointing and far from the hype I had seen on TikTok. Despite its visually appealing appearance, the actual experience fell flat in every aspect. The hotel was not welcoming at all, with zero hospitality skills displayed by the staff. Upon arrival around 11:00 AM, we were met with minimal hospitality and zero welcoming gestures. The receptionist, who seemed uninterested, barely spoke more than a few words and took a leisurely 30 minutes to complete the check-in process, despite us arriving during the designated check-in time. Our luggage remained at the reception for an extended period before we were offered a coconut as a welcome drink, which took them around 10 minutes to serve. The lack of professionalism was evident throughout our stay. The hotel's check-in process was archaic, with handwritten notes on a notepad instead of using modern systems. Moreover, the absence of a proper reception area, with the receptionist casually sitting at a dining table near the entrance, added to the unprofessional ambiance.

The room, while aesthetically pleasing as showcased on social media, had its flaws. The bathroom door's height, lower than 2 meters without any warning signs, led to my tall partner hitting his head twice. This oversight on safety is unacceptable for a supposedly upscale establishment. The pricing of the hotel does not align with the level of service provided. The staff's unprofessionalism extended to the dining experience, where we encountered slow service, missing drink orders, and overcharging on the bill for drinks that were never served. The food quality was subpar, and the prices were exorbitant, more akin to European standards rather than reflecting the local economy. During dinner, the ambiance deteriorated further as staff members were engrossed in their phones, creating a loud and unwelcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the lack of attention to detail, such as turning off outdoor music during rain, added to the overall negative experience. The owners' behavior was also unprofessional, as they were seen going behind the bar to make their own food and cocktails, further detracting from the supposed upscale ambiance. Furthermore, upon check-out, we were informed that we needed to check out at 11:00 AM, contrary to the 12:00 PM check-out time indicated on our reservation. This inconsistency in communication added to the frustration of an already disappointing stay. In summary, The Hotel in Ahangama is nothing more than an Instagram-worthy facade with a severe lack of hospitality, professionalism, and value for money. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a memorable and enjoyable stay in Sri Lanka.

Otroligt fina lokaler och hotellrum med en fantastisk utsikt. Allt kändes fräscht och välplanerat. Här ska man äta maten för den var otrolig.

Personalen måste bli bättre på service. Receptionen var otrevlig och tyvärr inte jättebra på engelska. I restaurangen så var det tyvärr inte någon jättebra service. Personalen var väldigt många men verkade mer intresserade av att prata med varandra istället för att servera dryck.

Красивый вид из номера, светлый декор в отеле, завтраки вкусные. Приятно просыпаться под шум океана. Всё оказалось не так плохо,как читали в отзывах,но вещи на всякий случай держали при себе 😄

Однозначно,что это не отель 5 звезд,как заявлено. В номере нет фена, один грустный стакан для воды,которой не было, нет чайника, шумно. Местоположение прям на дороге,поэтому такси было сложно остановиться и естественно от дороги был шум. В силах отеля поменять двери хотя бы,чтобы не было так слышно весь транспорт с улицы. Внизу также есть ресторан, где в один день шумели и слушали музыку,а нам нужно было на серф к 6 утра. Закончили свою вечеринку они ближе к часу ночи, я считаю,что должны быть ограничения для музыки до 12 часов, так как есть гости кому рано вставать утром. Ресторан внизу дорогой , недалеко есть варианты лучше и дешевле.

Beautifully designed hotel with a picturesque view. Breakfast was superb and a great location for a sunset drink.

The penthouse sunset suite is gorgeous but the climb was too much for my knees.

- 6 hours before our arrival, they wrote they sadly had to shorten our stay by one day due to another guest had requested to extent his stay. Got angry and then they fixed it at our arrival, but still not ok anyways. gave us 6-8 hours without knowing if we had our room or not for the days we had confirmed. - One day, they did a party from 12-17 at the hotel, meaning if you wanted to relax at the beach front (without listening to loud club dance music), it was not possible (seemed primarily like the owners of the hotel wanted a party for them self). Didn’t care about the guests at all - You can only pay cash for your stay and in the bar (doesn’t make sense for a five star hotel) - The stuff and owners had fairly loud discussion in front of the guest twice, which seemed a bit inconvenient - At arrival we asked if they could help with surf training manicure. They excused that they were newly opened hotel, but would find out (they have been open for several month). It took a way to long time to find both things for us, should be a fairly simple hotel service at a beach hotel
