We recently visited Matale, and discovered a little gem in the heart of the town to stay. Irene's Home is a beautiful "walauwwa"/ colonial type house with antique furniture, surrounded by a well kept lawn and beautiful greenery. The place was impeccably clean. It was like staying at one's very own grandma's place. They provided a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast; there were options to choose from. The place was serene and quiet. The staff were respectful, considerate and were more than happy to accommodate polite requests. It was a pleasant stay, and we intend to visit again. A very 'Sri Lankan' experience. Wow, ein wunderschönes, kolonialens Haus in ruhiger Lage, umgeben von einem Garten. Die vielen Räume und Sitzgelegenheiten der Flure und Veranda haben uns sehr gut gefallen. Wir hatten mehrere Zimmer zur Auswahl, entschieden uns für ein 3er und 4er Zimmer. Beide mit sehr schönen, neuen Badezimmern mit Warmwasser. Arjuna, unser Whatsapp Kontakt ist sehr gut auf unsere Wünsche eingegangen. Wir hatten ein reichhaltiges Abendessen und Frühstück. Vielen Dank dem Personal. Danke auch für die flexible Check-out Zeit. Wie hätten länger bleiben dürfen, mussten dann aber überstürzt wegen eines Todesfall in der Familie abreisen.

Das Personal (super nett und freundlich) sprach leider nur wenig Englisch, sonst nur Singhalesisch. Da waren mir Arjuna und meine Familie eine große Hilfe. Meine Familie spricht Singhalesisch, verstand sich sehr gut mit dem Personal. Es ging auf alle unsere Wünsche ein.

A peaceful retreat close to the city center. Immaculately tidy, thanks to the wonderful couple who not only managed the place but also showered us with kindness and helpfulness.
