My stay at the Bay Village Hotel in Boston was amazing. To be honest, it was my first experience staying in a self-serving hotel like this. However, everything was good. No one disturbed me, and every time, the hotel was quiet like I was alone in the entire building, and it was convenient.

I have never booked somewhere and regretted it the second I checked in as much as I did with this property. I knew it would be shared bathroom before booking it and for the price, I expected low. However when I turned up and checked in, I realised that the top floor where my room was had a tiny toilet in a cupboard with no light and no sink. The main bathroom (which looked nothing like the photos) was on the floor below and shared with what I could see was eight rooms. Unsurprisingly, this bathroom was always engaged - so you could go to the toilet but had to wait to wash your hands. Bedroom was very basic. I reluctantly spent the first night here but after waking up in early hours with bites on my arms and legs from god only knows what, I found alternative accommodation. It is described as a hotel but it’s a multiple occupancy property and forms part of the social housing in the area so hardly a hotel.

Small, loud and not very clean. At my arrival I first had to fix thr AC and found a totally wet bathroom. I would‘t sty there again

Wow, the stairs. I was on the top floor, trying to get luggage up the stairs is very difficult as not only are the stairs very steep but narrow and the building is at a distinct tilt to the side. Room was very basic, nothing like the photos. Everything looked as if it was about to break. The main shared bathroom was not a problem, was very clean, but the little toilet on my floor had no sink in it, so on the top floor there was nowhere to wash your hands. Area wasn’t the greatest either. There is no staff on site for most of the time and front door and room are push button codes. However, it was really close to the centre.

Check in and check out were really easy. The room and bathroom were very clean. The location was right near a train station and close to good restaurants and bars. However, the property was right next to a highway so there was traffic noise 24/7. The room had a loud air condition unit that was right next to the bed which made sleeping difficult. Had to have the air on cause you couldn't open the windows cause of the traffic noise.

Cheap place- and you get what u pay for. I stayed at the top floor - 4 rooms which shared the tiniest bathroom - so small toilet tank had to be elevated and no sink…. Stairs crooked and v v v creaky.
They must have multiple buildings - as the address I booked was 1 mile away from where I stayed….

The room was spacious and there was an air conditioner/heater, which was nice. There is a shared bathroom down the hall, which was fine until there was water leaking from the ceiling from the shower on the 4th floor. It looked like it was raining in the bathroom. I emailed the management company in charge of the hotel and they responded right away and said they would send someone over to take care of it. Well, the only thing done was that they locked the bathroom on our level, so now there were 7 rooms using the bathroom on the 4th floor. There were many times that we had to walk down the street to a coffee shop to use the bathroom.

Horrible experience, i will never stay in this place again
One star is too much for you

Was overall okay but there was a mouse in the bathroom underneath the sink.
I was not warned about any possible mouse infestation otherwise I would not have stayed here at all!

Could stand for a deep cleaning - former guests hair all over in both room & shared bathroom. Convenient location. Air unit worked well. Communication was good.

The pictures are very misleading. The room was humid, old and the hallway steps are crooked. The shared bathroom is in poor condition and is one toilet and one shower for 7 rooms to share.

It was literally like staying with family. Never heard a noise from anyone or anything. Showers and bathrooms were never occupied either.
Walking distance to trains, busses, or anything else you'll need.

Electricity was out while I was in the shower, never came back on for 2 days.

Very appreciative that my room was available before the scheduled check-in time, and they contacted me and let me check in early

Property itself was good, the reason for the 3 stars is that the maintenance guy randomly showed up to change the carpet knocking on the door and basically barged in helping himself inside the room, while i was indecent inside just coming out of the shower, after specifically told to wait, this happened after i been told that the room is ready for me to check in by the management. A little internal communication between the management and the maintenance guy would've been fantastic.

They clearly don’t maintain the rooms to high standards or clean well. It wasn’t like dirty dirty but little things here or there that felt like they just chose not to do. The lock situation was convenient and so was the location. It’s pretty cheap for the location though. I would stay there again if I absolutely had to but I wouldn’t recommend it for those reasons.

I stayed here for a month while on a work trip. There was some miscommunication at check-in, where I had to request the door code myself, and was informed that I needed to submit some information that I had not previously been asked to submit regarding "proof of travel." After that point, however, communication was excellent. They were available by text and responded right away.
If you rent one of the third or fourth floor rooms, you have to share a bathroom with other guests. I knew this going in, but a related an unexpected issue that cropped up revolved around the soap/shampoo dispensers due to other guests breaking them. They were not replaced for several days.
The room was clean, albeit showing signs of wear. Both the walls and floor show some minor signs of damage. There were occasionally insects in the room (ants, mostly), but if I took out the trash every day, I seldom saw them. My main complaint would be that, even with such a long stay, I would've had to pay $50 to receive housekeeping. I think that the hotel should have the obligation to clean the rooms once a week, as there are certain forms of cleaning that the guests themselves cannot do. I understand not offering room cleaning for shorter stays, but to go a month without a room clean is a bit much. The hotel was very responsive to requests for additional towels and sheets, however.
There is no mirror in the rooms. I think that's an easy fix that would cut down on bathroom congestion.

The bed was clean and comfortable. The property was old and needs updating.

The photos from the website to the live site were totally different. It was really not pleasant. Their communication was excellent. It was such a bad experience that I moved forward with my return trip and I wrote to them to get my money back and they told me no.

For that price, I reckon it should not be a 4 Stars, but the pictures were a bit different from reality, plus the public bathrooms usually lacked the proper ammenities. And very noisy rooms due to be facing the highway and train railroad. If they solved all of it, I would give it a higher score.

Building right by mas turnpike..stairwell canted and steep with rail only on one side.
Hard to carry bags up and down..no elevator.

・The price is high for the size of the room.
・The actual room is older than the photos on the website.
・It's best to book with the understanding that you're looking for a room that's just basic enough for sleeping.

Was a great location to subway and business and downtown areas.

The property is in two adjacent brownstones facing the Mass Pike. Although the room and bathroom is spotless, the stairway in my half was leaning several inchesnto one side as the building is settling. Although only 2 or 3 blocks from a trendy area, the block itself is a bit creepy at night. Sharing the bathroom was never a problem. The bathtub could use a non skid surface and grab bars. There was not enough space to unroll a yoga mat in my room. Overall, for this fit 67 year old man, a good value when the other hotels available that weekend were all $500 per night.

For the price, this little gem of a room was perfect for my daughter and I wanting to just spend a few days exploring Boston on foot.

I don’t usually give negative reviews but I must comment on the noise. My room directly faces a busy train track running 24 hours a day. The window, inches away from my pillow, is locked open with a giant gap (due to an aftermarket portable ac unit) it was impossible for me to sleep during my 3 day stay. There was no communication from the property and I was not able to request a different room. The housekeeper was amazing and did an excellent job maintaining the room, nice and clean. Property was also a great value and close to everything. Just the noise. Please take a minute to answer your guests requests.

When I picked this place I knew that I would be sharing a bathroom with others - but the condition of the bathroom is way worse than I expected. It was clean over all speaking, but it was SO small and there's nowhere for you to put your clothes and towel. The ceiling of the bathroom is the worst - it's deteriorating and they property management didn't fix it.
I stayed on for two nights on Saturday and Sunday, and on the first night it was very noisy. It's expected that people would stay out late on Saturday, but the noise resistance is really bad. I woke up multiple times at night because of the noise.

The people at the property were very easy to communicate with and I appreciated that but the room looks nothing like it does in the pictures. Based on the photos, I was expecting something charming but what I got was anything but charming. It had more of a college dorm room feel and that isn't really what I was looking for. With electronic locks and no deadbolt, I slid my well worn (complete with water rings and warped paint) nightstand in front of my door when I slept. There wasn't a single mirror in my room so I used my reflection in the toaster to do my hair and apply my makeup. The artworks or painting in my room was unfinished, which was just strange. I stay in Boston a couple nights a week, every week and was really hoping this could work as an affordable option. It's definitely affordable but you get what you pay for and it isn't what you see in the pictures.

These properties are exactly what you’d expect and paid for accordingly. The value is appropriate, especially if you’re prepared in advance. Very old, and somewhat rundown. Stairs can be treacherous with poor stairway lighting. Good WiFi signal. Shared bathroom. Typically fine for one night. I’ve stayed here multiple times. My room this time was much smaller than previous stay, but functional. Air conditioner drowns out traffic noise nicely. This last time was first time I was accosted (not violently) by neighbor a few doors down.
Easy convenient walk to Back Bay station (~10 minutes) and plenty of restaurants ~10 minute walk. If you’re aware of what you’re going to get, this is fine for a short stay. Their communication is good. Check in isn’t until 4 and they try to charge you if you want to drop off bags (which I think is cheesey). No onsite staff
