This hotel was a strange mix. It may be mid refurbishment but a long way from complete. All of the light fittings looked to be new along with the chandeliers. Carpets in main areas very bright and again seemed new. But, the rooms we had (Executive) although large were very dated. The TV was angled so it didn’t face the bed. Very few sockets and not next to the bed. Very thoughtfully a n extension had been left near the mirror - handy for the hairdryer. The rooms were very hot although radiators were off. We had Dinner and breakfast. Dinner was plentiful if you like chips, but the chicken not quite so well portioned. Breakfast very poor. Definitely budget ingredients and a bizarre toaster. All of the staff were polite and well trained. A credit to the hotel.

Lovely big rooms and a great breakfast

I loved my stay here, it was only for a night and was a business trip but I'd stay there again without hesitation. My room was huge, clean and no it's not modern, which is what i loved. The bedroom had all the amenities i needed and the bed, oh my, it was so comfortable. Food in the restaurant was delicious. I can only say good things about the whole place. If you want modern it's not for you. If you like character and grand, it's for you. I'll definitely be returning.

Peaceful, comfortable and clean with old world charm!

The staff were great and very helpful. The hotel itself is, unfortunately looking very tired. It needs a lot of TLC. Used the spa, but disappointed. The Jacuzzi was tepid. The steam room wasn’t working and the sauna was not hot.

Bathroom light and fan would not switch off and bathroom door wouldn’t close tight so was kept awake most of night

Staff were really great. Building currently under updating. The £13 curry literally tasted like a £13 curry if you catch my drift. Very enjoyable stay! :)

Thoroughly enjoyed staying for 1 night. Lucky to have a Suite which was spacious, well equipped and comfortable. Made use of the pools and spa facilities - great view of the woodland from the pool. Friendly and very helpful staff. Will definitely visit and stay again.

We booked an “executive double” which is actually a “standard double “, room was very small and cramped with furniture but no wardrobe or desk or chair. Only hook was on bathroom door, so nowhere to hang clothes. Bed linen was good quality cotton and comfy pillows but mattress very hard. Staff friendly and attentive. Breakfast buffet style and plentiful.

Good for an overnight for work. Hotel is tired and requires modernisation it’s run by teenagers who could do with some guidance. Room was clean. Food was bland and the main area could do with a thorough vacuum. Overall it’s fine for a business stay.

our room was clean and had everything we needed. However chaos in the restaurant spoiled the evening completely. Extremely slow service, and who runs out of steak on Grill Night? The young staff tried hard, but they were understaffed and overworked. So many customers were sitting waiting over an hour for food, including us .

Lovely grounds, super pool, friendly staff. Spoilt by the room being so hot with no air conditioning and windows that only opened three inches as on the hrpund floor.

Very relaxed atmosphere , staff very accommodating and friendly. Excellent amenities in an ideal location. Breakfast was spot on . Will definitely be visiting again.

This is a nice enough hotel and the staff do their best to make you feel welcome. However, it is an old building and although reasonably well maintained, the floor boards creak and the plumbing is extremely noisy. The food in the restaurant is just about acceptable.

Staff courteous, helpful above beyond call of duty, professional and service high quality. Chef was exceptionally with my special dietary requirements. The young female tall receptionist also spa / pool 1 evening, too, went above her skill set to assist & settle me in with my osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, she took my luggage up and down to room 21. She ordered taxis daily and ensured everything was just perfect. I found her excellent

Great stay very comfortable room stunning

I thought this hotel was great. Lots of character, decent food and friendly staff. Yes, its a little worn in places but for me that added to the character and it does date back to the 17th century! If anything it would be good if the hotel provided more information on the buildings history - like an history guide or even just old pictures about... bound to be a potential ghost story too... Would definitely stay again if in area and far better than characterless chains.

The staff were good, very young, but a tired old hotel, but clean and friendly. This is obviously being decorated and I guess suffered after Covid. Breakfast today was short of staff, cups and saucers, and young people doing their best. Old fashioned bathroom and bath-in-shower.

Beautiful vintage hotel about 6 miles from the cruise port and what a thrill to be away from the hustle and bustle. Cozy little bar and delicious food topped it off. Super friendly staff. Highly recommended.

The lift was not working and it was a long walk to reception. The toilet was broken in our room and maintainance came twice. No phone in room so very difficult to communicate with the desk. Had a light dinner and the burger was slightly burnt and fries were cold. Reception was very kind and did what she could do fix the issues in our room.

The photo on the website is not the same when you turn up. It's a very old rundown hotel. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the food was good . The place is old and our room did have clean sheets on the bed and clean but the room was really showing its age. The bathroom had cracked ceiling, the bath had some chunky bits of putty or plaster on and the shower was too hot and burning, there was no making it cooler even when we turned it to cold. The plug hole was filled with something so the bath filled with shower water and didn't go down for ages. Such a shame the spa was shut that wasn't advertised on the website we booked . A beautiful building just needs renovating.

The hotel is beautiful, and impressive as you turn down the drive towards it, however it is tired and in need of some love. Reception staff were slow and not overly friendly. Fine for what I needed, I didn't use any facilities as was a passing visit so did the job but wouldn't stay again.

First room nowhere to put toiletries or hang clothes. No bin. Moved to another room, paint on carpet, cracked tiles in bathroom. No bin in room. For the price charged needs refurbish.
