Burg Stargard is a small town about 10 kilometres from the regional centre of Neubrandenburg and Lake Tollensesee with good bathing opportunities. The townscape is characterised by historic buildings and wooded surroundings, and the most famous landmark is the hilltop castle of Stargard. It is the most northerly hilltop castle in Germany. In addition to a unique view over the entire region from the keep, the medieval castle grounds with museum, castle park and herb garden offer places to linger. Guided tours are also available. The castle also hosts the famous Stargard Castle Festival and other events every year, and the Marie Hager House in the town offers changing exhibitions. Not far from the market square, where the town church is also located, is the famous Pinguin ice cream parlour, whose ice cream has been popular with locals and visitors for more than 60 years.
