Having stayed in high-end lodgings before, this one did not compare. It seems it gets off on its name and location now and does not put the extra touches that are expected of an inn like this. Breakfast was poorly done; staff was 50-50 on professionalism; amenities were lacking for the price of the hotel; lovely spot -- but should be priced 1/3 less than it is. The experience does not get close to meeting the value you pay.

Building, garden, waterfront - everything is beautiful. The staff very helpful and professional.

Breakfast was very good; a bit pricey. Patricia our server was Outstanding. Location is very good to walk to town.

Lack of attention by the staff; no follow-up provided to questions. Signed up for a tour but it was never passed on. Asked about going out on the sail boat; again never heard and didn't get a chance to go. No map provided at check-in. A lot of pay-as-you-go that isn't clear until you arrive. As we left got a chance to speak to the boat captain and learned a lot about using the boats. Too bad it was at check-out.

The housekeeper was pleasant.

I’ve stayed a far better places than this at this price point. They have much to learn and improve upon. The checking clerk must have been having a bad day; she did nothing more than record our credit card and ID, and hand us a key – no explanation of the property, no offer to secure our luggage, etc. I presumed that this was a one-off; not so. The checkout clerk was no better, and up to the task to make you feel displaced. The food was average – and I strongly suggest that if you prefer a good dinner, there is a very good Italian in St. Michaels, with far better fare, and friendly service. You can walk, but its long; might be better to drive. Overall, I didn’t really think this property delivered anywhere near its self-generated hype.
