We spent a very relaxing week at The Retreat cottage in August with our teenage daughters. The cottage is beautifully and comfortably decorated and very well equipped with everything you could need for a family holiday. The location is a perfect for base for exploring the Lakes and only 5 mins walk down to Bowness shops and restaurants.
The garden gives a lovely view down onto Windermere and we even had our own little Peter rabbit!

This Brantfell cottage is absolutely perfect for a family stay in the Lake District. The cottage was clean and well appointed. If you are looking to ramble you couldn't find a better location. The trail to Brantfell is right out the back door. It's a quick climb that provides gorgeous views up and down the lake. If you are without a car, be prepared for a steep walk to the cottage after a day in Bowness, a good way to burn of your fish and chips from Vinegar Jones!

Overall we had an absolutely fantastic time, the weather couldn’t have been better. The garden is great for seeing the views of Lake Windermere.
The beds are very comfy and after a long day of walking old man of Coniston and kayaking we were ready for an early night.
We will be booking again in the future!

The cottage is a gorgeous, tiny old stone building, which has been ingeniously redesigned inside to create a cozy yet spacious-feeling home away from home, with all the mod cons. The view up the hill from the living room, and across to the lake from the deck, were just what we hoped for. Easy walking access into town (if you don't mind the slopes) for groceries, pubs and down to the lake, or up the hill right outside your door to one of the most spectacular views I have ever enjoyed. The owner Louise was very responsive to questions, the cottage was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed to enjoy a very comfortable stay.
We will definitely visit again.

The cottage was absolutely beautiful. The views were breathtaking. The only thing to call out is that if you are a tall person you will need to duck quite a bit due to beams and a very cute front door. The cottage was fitted out really well and the kitchen had everything which for us was great as we like to cook. If you want a very relaxing break with beautiful views then this is the place to stay. The owners were also very quick to help us turning the heating up. A fantastic break. Thank you for a wonderful break.

Perfectly situated if you can manage a five minute walk uphill from Bowness . Dont be put off about reversing the car in its only a few yards .
Nice welcome pack and very clean. Good internet and really beautiful walks which start outside the gate .
The bedding was clean and fresh
Good view of the Lake from the garden .
We didnt need to speak to the owner during the stay .
The ldirections etc were not sent out until Sunday and it wasnt possible to speak to the owners by phone pre arrival only through the app.

The cottage is in the best spot to visit the Lake District - walking distance into Bowness but you feel like you are in the countryside as there are walks just behind the house. The house was lovely and warm even in the recent cold snap. The house was beautifully decorated - I would love to have the light shade in the master bedroom at my house!
Communication with the owners was excellent. We really did have a wonderful time.

The cottage is beautifully decorated, very cosy and has everything needed for a lovely holiday stay. The location is very good and easy to walk down to the town of Bowness with lots of bars, shops and restaurants - the walk back up bank is not so easy but does burn off the calories!!! We didn't have great weather so couldn't make as much use of the garden and decking area but it was still nice to stand out with a coffee in the morning looking at the lake. We had read the reviews on the parking being tight and we have a family sized saloon car and it was doable with some good reversing skills... We would definatly stay agin if we want a break in this area.

Wonderful experience. Clean and modern, with everything that we needed. Location is brilliant - got a good workout walking and cycling up and down Brantfell Road. Being walkable to lake shore and shops was ideal. Lovely garden with decking and views down to Bowness and Lake Windermere. Would stay here again.

Only down sides which werent very clear on booking were Cottage front door is incredibly low, about 5ft, the drive is long and very narrow- requires either reversing up or down which is tricky. The dehumidifier downstairs goes on and off all night, which bothered no one else in our group but me as am a light sleeper.
Location was perfect. On the day we had a powercut being able to walk to the chip shop which was out of the outage area was very useful! Great time swimming and paddleboarding around Windermere and lots to do in the area. Lovely sunsets from the deck.

We had a lovely long weekend stay at the cottage. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather to sit out and enjoy the views of the lake. The house was beautifully decorated and cosy. The kitchen was well equipped and everything was very clean.
The cottage is in a great central location for shops and restaurants but far enough away to also be peaceful.
Thank you for making our first stay in the Lakes so comfortable and memorable!

Property was as advertised. Beautiful cottage with everything you need for a self catering break. 5 minute downhill walk into Bo'ness. Steep hill on way back - not suitable for those with mobility issues unless driving. As others have said, tight driveway to cottage. Loved this cottage and the views from the outdoor seating area. Perfect for us and would stay again.

This was our 4th stay. The cottage is in the perfect location being both accessible and private with the amazing views over Windemere an added bonus. Beautifully appointed and equipped, we always have the best time staying there.

What a wonderful place
The house is absolutely stunning and views from the garden are perfect!
Beautifully clean and modern with some gorgeous features inside and out.
The parking was big enough for my focus but I found it easier to reverse up the drive as it’s quite a tight turn.
The walk up the hill is definitely a steep one but only took 5/10 minutes and the view from the house made it worth it.
Anne was fantastic when we had an issue and it was resolved immediately.
I can’t wait to stay again in the future!

Perfect in everyday
Location, location, location....comfortable, luxurious accommodation. Far enough away from the crowds to relax and enjoy the stunning views in peace and quiet, whilst close enough to access all of the activities you want. Definitely recommended.

A Real Retreat
As usual with Vrbo it was easy to book, pay and “joining instructions” guided us right to the front door.
The property was unique and we were fortunate to have good weather, sitting on the decking with a cool hop infused brew!
I got half way through a Kindle book as it was peaceful and interruption free.
We’ll certainly be back.

Fabulous stay With the most spectacular view
We have just had a perfect week in this beautiful cottage, it had everything we needed and more, just a short walk from it all but quiet and peaceful, I can’t fault a thing we would definitely stay again, and Anne was very helpful and on hand straight away - we loved it - thank you !

Such a lovely property with very high spec furniture/fittings/Bedding etc.everything you could wish for with a lovely back drop. Would not hesitate in revisiting.

Go through the gate at the top of the road a small walk to the top of a hill you will see spectacular views of Lake Windermere well worth a look. Fantastic Mini break in Bowness-on-Windermere
The property was lovely and very centrally located in Bowness.
It was really tastefully decorated and furnished with a good outdoor area to enjoy the views of the lake.
We were 4 adults and found it a very spacious cottage where we could relax which was great as the weather was not the best while we were there.
It is only a 5 minute walk down to the lake where restaurants and bars are plentiful (maybe 10 minutes back up the hill!!)
We would definitely stay again when in the area.
