Eleuthera is the perfect island to stay if you like laid back life, the most beautiful pink sand deserted beaches and the nicest friendliest people in the world.(we have visited over 40 countries). Groceries and restaurants very expensive though. Orchid cottage is in a good location for exploring. Exceptional well equipped..you'll find Everything you'll need. The ONLY negative we fou s was that the path to the beautiful beach was too difficult to manage with beach chairs. But we are old and there are so many others to visit. Denis and sandy Vancouver, BC

Because there was a group of us we used the Orchid Cottage mainly for sleeping and spent time at the Shangri-La. The cottage was light, airy, tastely decorated and self sufficient, The four of us could have stayed there quite comfortably. The property was beautiful and we liked that we could walk to the ocean. The location was ideal, a short drive to Governor's Harbour where we bought groceries, had lunches and dinners and visited the Haynes Library (est. 1897). We drove to both the southern and northern parts of the island exploring the beaches and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Because there was a group of us we used the Orchid Cottage mainly for sleeping and spent time at the Shangri-La. The cottage was light, airy, tastely decorated and self sufficient, The four of us could have stayed there quite comfortably. The property was beautiful and we liked that we could walk to the ocean. The location was ideal, a short drive to Governor's Harbour where we bought groceries, had lunches and dinners and visited the Haynes Library (est. 1897). We drove to both the southern and northern parts of the island exploring the beaches and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Wow...just wow...words can't describe our fantastic time in the Orchid Cottage on Eleuthera Island. This is truly a paradise. We are a family with 2 young children from The Netherlands and we wanted a place 'away from it all' in a natural environment. This is THE place! The cottage has everything you need. The kitchen has every kitchen utility you can think of, they provide you with bed linens, (beach) towels and they even have beach accessoiries for you to use to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Our local hosts, Barry and Lachadra (they also have a very reliable car rental business) were there to help us in case there were issues. We had a small issue with hot water, but they immediately came to the cottage to fix it. We also met the owner, Shawna. She is so welcoming and kind. She and her family do everything they can to make your stay pleasant. The location of the cottage is ideal: not directly AT the beach (so fortunately no direct wind and salt), but just a few steps from it, surrounded by a beautiful garden with a lot of palm trees. You can hear the waves from the deck. The cottage is located very central on the island, ideal for exploring the whole island. On walking distance (via Bank's Road or just walk the beach in southern direction) you'll find Pascal's / Sky Beach bar; a very friendly place where you can use the swimming pool, the hot tub and order great food against fair prices. They even have a pool-bar, which means you can drink at the bar while being in the swimming pool. Some favorite beaches close by are Coco di Mama, Ten Bay, South Palmetto Point and of course Banana beach; that is the beach that is just steps away from the cottage. Whenever the Atlantic side is rough, you can just go to the other side of the island (3 miles) where you'll find very shallow waters. Our sons (1 and 4 years old) had the time of their lives. This island is a place for all those people who wants to enjoy nature, beaches, quietness and those who accepts the "island life": groceries are quite expensive, not everything you want is available and the roads are sometimes pretty bad because of all the weather/sea impact. But who cares: the people are so friendly, the weather is great and you are in a very safe and beautiful natural place. What else do you need?
