There's no place like San Pedro California!
i'm writing this review from the front room of the denison bungalow with the ocean breeze blowing in. this delightful beach house is a perfect get away from wherever you are now! the location is ideal with cabrillo beach and the extraordinary los angeles harbor a short walk away. for those of you that enjoy hiking this is the place! each day i hike to point fermin and along the spectacular pacific coast. many many activities are within walking distance -- shakespeare by the sea in the summer (free) as well as local diners (famous walker's cafe) and attractions like the local marine center, maritime museum and the battleship iowa (both worth the walk). having a car is a good idea if you want to see more of LA and different beaches. Torrance is a few short miles away and is an ideal swimming beach and the drive there is magical with many local areas for hiking right along the coast. if you are a biker this is your place! many many bikers (bicycle and motorcycle) take advantage of the curvy and hilly coastline ride to torrance and hermosa beach (and the delightful coastal stretch called "the strand"). San Pedro is a convenient location to many LA attractions. mine however is the beach!
finally a bit about margie and her wonderful home. the house is a perfect beach getaway...well appointed with all needs taken care of. it is very clean, beautifully update, and yet has the charm of a beach bungalow. margie is an exceptional host--she has provided all of the things you will need for a worry-free vacation. denison street is charming with other well maintained beach homes along this quiet, welcoming, and charming block. She is nearby but in no way intrusive on your privacy.
I look forward to my next vacaton here at Margie's homeaway!

Relaxed, enjoyable stay
Margie was a lovely host during my 2.5 week stay at her beach bungalow. I grew up in the area, and this location was both quiet, safe and affordable, which isn't the case for many neighboring communities. My favorite things about this property: 1) The vibe - When I entered the house, I instantly felt relaxed and at ease. It is an adorable 1920s bungalow that has been restored with love. 2) The location - Safe area of San Pedro within walking distance to some small shops and, of course, the ocean. It is only a short drive to the freeway as well. 3) The host - Margie was kind, informative, and available if I needed anything, but I did not feel as if she was in my space while I was on vacation. In summary, highly recommended!

Comfortable Cottages, Perfect Location
I am also interning in California for the summer and found MY California Beach Cottages to be the perfect place to stay. It is convenient to Los Angeles if you want to go downtown, but also close to Orange County, where I'm working. I'm living in the Palmtree cottage, and it has plenty of space. The pictures really don't do it justice! The living room has a full size couch and arm chair with the large coffee table shown in the pictures. Across from it is a futon, which folds out into a second bed, my mom slept here while she was out and found it be comfortable. And I still had enough space in the middle of the room to do my yoga videos. Then there is the dining room, with a nice table to enjoy breakfast at, and several storage cabinets, if you're staying for longer, like I am. The kitchen is furnished with all the appliances, pots, pans, silverware, etc. Even Margie's hand towels and oven mitts have the palm tree theme on them! In the dining room is the entrance to a short back hall which has the bathroom on one end, then some drawers, and the bedroom. The bedroom is very comfortable, it's about the size of the average bedroom. There is large dresser and closet with hangers for all the clothes you need to bring with you, I brought a lot, since I'm interning in the fashion industry! I think this cottage would be perfect for singles, couples, and families with one child that would be comfortable sleeping on the futon-Margie has provided extra comforters, blankets, bedding, and pillows so it can be become a very nice bed. Parking is on the street, I've mostly been parking across the street from the cottage, but there always has been space somewhere along this block. Margie’s cottages are the perfect home away from home, with all the comforts and conveniences of your home.

Extremely happy. Will most definitely return.
My California Beach Homes is a wonderful place to rent. I am from ohio, and needed a place to live while I worked at my internship. I came accross MCBH online, and I am so glad I chose to rent here. The landlord, Margie, is phenominal! I did not have a car, and it was my first time in CA. Upon arrival Margie took me out to lunch, took me grocery shopping, and gave me a tour of the town. She is like my second mom here. The house is completely refurnished. It is very clean and the bed is very comfortable. Margie renovated the home by herself and you can tell how much hard work she put in. It is just a couple blocks from a beautiful beach and park. The weather is nice and cool, and there are two ceiling fans in the unit. Margie has gone out of her way to make this home welcoming, comfortable, and clean. I feel at home and will most dedefinitely be renting here again. The area is gorgeous. There is an apple tree right outside my front door! I have been blown away by the efforts Margie has made to make my stay wonderful. She is always available if I have any questions, and she always wants to help. Margie's bubbly personality makes her easy to talk to, and she always has a smile on her face. This home is all around wonderful and I am so glad I chose to rent here.

Great weather and comfortable homes!
I had the opportunity to stay 3 months in the California beach cottages. The homes are well kept and have everything you need for an extended stay. Margie has fully furnished homes, with tempurpedic mattresses, large flat screen TVs, and cookware to make your favorite dishes while away from home. The neighborhood borders Palos Verdes which is great for its hidden beaches, hiking and biking. San Pedro also has some very good restaurants that I enjoyed. The town is far enough to keep you from the downtown LA hustle, but close enough so you can enjoy all of LA with short car ride. Margie is also very attentive and caring with her homes. She took time out of her day to help me pack my belongings and made sure I had everything to enjoy my stay. If you're looking to enjoy South Bay, Long Beach, Los Angleses and Orange County I recommend these homes for you! Thanks again Margie!

Perfect Vacation Home
Margie,
Our vacation would of not been the incredible time it was if we chose other living arrangements. All the hardwork you have done to make these homes comfortable and peaceful shows. Thank you for all your kindness and stories!
If you are on the fence about renting this property. Just commit. You won't regret it! These cozy little cottages offer so much more than this ad can ever represent. From the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in to fresh home grown veggies and fruit that Margie generously shares! If you're lucky you'll even get to meet Fonzy the neighbors sweet cocker spaniel! Happy vacationing!

Grapevine Cottage
Margie was such a great hostess! When we arrived, she showed us around and gave us directions to local sites and beaches. There's a great little beach a few blocks away, along with a small aquarium. Redondo beach is not too far away. The cottage is super cute, clean and comfortable. We slept great and hope to visit again. Maybe next time in a 2 bedroom. Thanks again Margie!

Felt right at home
My husband and I are from Colorado and were adopting a baby in the Los Angeles area. We needed a place to stay awaiting our daughter's birth and for about a week afterward until paperwork had cleared and we were allowed to take our new baby home to Colorado. There could not have been a more perfect place for us to spend our first couple of days with our newborn! MJ was so fexible since we were unsure of our travel dates, and was so welcoming and helpful! When we showed up, she even had a stroller for us. Our daughter will grow up hearing stories about her first days in California and her new friend MJ. We will definitely be back! PS- be sure to take a walk to the Pacific Diner for an amazing crabmeat omlette and a chat with Vicki and the gang!

Wonderful Experience!
I was moving to California from Florida, and needed a place for a few months. I was really worried after looking at most other places that had long minimum stays, no cable, no laundry, no internet, etc. that I would be locked into a something I didn’t want, or would be spending all my time setting up utilities that I’d only need for a few months. Then I saw this place, and everything changed. The motto was “just bring your clothes and your laptop,” and that was exactly what I needed! I was a little nervous booking from Florida, but after talking to MJ for a while on the phone I felt very comfortable. MJ sent me a bunch of emails about the area, attractions, and even the best way to get to my office in El Segundo for work. And the place is gorgeous! It has great decorations, beautiful floors, and modern appliances. MJ and this place have really helped me out with this move – I would highly recommend these properties. You will not be disappointed!

Wonderful 4th of July in San Pedro
My husband and I stayed at the cottage for four days over the 4th of July weekend. We arrived from the East Coast to attend a wedding. The cottage was wonderful - spacious anough to entertain a few friends during the evening and cook for the wedding reception during the day. Margie was a very gracious host during our stay and never said a word about out takeover of the cottage and yard with in & out food/shopping, cooking, friends, etc. It was a real pleasure to be at the peaceful cottage and in San Pedro, great location. The front yard smelled of beautiful flowers and the neighborhood was great to walk to see the flowers and foilage as well. Only downside I can think of is that finding parking in front of cottage can be rough sometimes (especially on the 4th!) but we managed within a block most of the time.
The wedding was super great, we returned home safely, and the deposit check was returned timely. Doesn't get much better than that.

Felt like home
We stayed at the Palm Tree cottage in mid-June for one week and wished we could have stayed longer. We have family and friends in the area but wanted a place to call home, albeit for a very short time, and we definitely felt at home there. Its location is ideal - on quiet residential street with easy access to several freeways, within walking distance to the water, and with markets and other conveniences within a short drive. The cottage is furnished with taste (a mix of the old and modern) and has a beautiful and original from the '20s wood floor. Having a washer/dryer and fully equipped kitchen saved us some money too. With the windows open, there was a nice, fresh breeze throughout the house. Margie, the owner, was always available when needed but was never intrusive. Thank you for having us!

This place and house was ...
This place and house was simply amazing! I was nervous renting from a website as I am in Nebraska and was worried about choosing a home to stay for a month on the internet. But, from just the drive down the hill to the house I felt like I was on vacation. Like being at some wonderful seaside resort area. Once at the house the owner, Margie was a treat to meet being so friendly and showing me around the house that is wonderfully decorated that made me believe I had entered a spa retreat. The decor choices to the house work made me feel like nothing had not been given full attention by Margie. She truly has pride in this home and should. It was also pleasant to have Margie there to ask questions about the area like attractions to see, entertainment and food options. And if had any needs at the house I found her to be the greatest home owner and took pride in making sure I was comfortable in this home and with my surroundings.
The house itself was truly like being away from the world and made my stay even greater. From the decor, to the quiet all around I enjoyed my month here. And truly enjoyed my days just staying at the house lounging and relaxing! It is somewhere I would stay again over and over!

What a wonderful surprise...
What a wonderful surprise! It was much more than imagined...Margie, the owner has renovated the units with her own touch and they feel like home immediately! It feels European with the front sliding gate and the garden- like path enlaid with artistic stones. The view of San Pedro's hills and houses provide a sense of this southern Californian community...palm trees...old beach cottages...gorgeous homes on the hillsides. The unit itself was filled with all the essentials, so we were able to store food and drinks...and even though we didn't cook on the stove, we did use the microwave. Lastly, the bed was amazing...it was the most comfortable bed. It was difficult getting up in the mornings. Even though we drove most everywhere, we did take a few walks and the area feels completely safe. There are so many things close by, like the Marine Museum (worth going to)...also great parks...and on 6th ST..SOME of the greatest vintage clothing and thrift shops. This was a great place and we are definitely staying here again on our next visit.

I have stayed in the Cottage twice & once in the upper unit in back. What a hidden Jewel this property is! I lived in Redondo Beach & a few years in palos Verdes Estates & discovered this great property a couple of years ago. This is the only place I stay in when I visit L.A. The owner is a joy to meet & chat with & amazingly has remodeled this 1930s property with no expense spared. Each unit has so much attention to detail & the craftmanship can only be appreciated in person! The location if you know L.A. is quite ideal getting to & from the Beach, Airport, Downtown, Disneyland, Long Beach etc....This property sits right below Palos Verdes Estates & there are many remodel projects going on in this area. The units are warm & cozy, I have the best nights sleep in the Bed in the Cottage. The whole room just makes want to snuggle up in Bed in front of the T.V. I love having my morning coffee on the porch or in the private courtyard listening to & watching the Birds. Well, I can't wait to stay in the top left unit, I heard this one is almost finished. If you want a great private place to stay in L.A. try this property & you will love it & the Host is so nice & takes pride in this amazing property! Better than any B&B I have visited & more private than a Hotel for a better price$$$
Thank You,
David Rios

My wife and I grew up in ...
My wife and I grew up in San Pedro but have not lived there since 1953. We decided to take a two month Winter holiday to escape the rain and the chill of our home in Portland, Oregon.
San Pedro has changed over the years but the house is located in the Point Fermin area of San Pedro which has not changed much.. The area which includes Cabrillo Beach and the beautiful Point Fermin Park is on the edge of a peninsula, hence very little through traffic. The house has everything you could possibly need on a vacation. The living room is large and very well furnished.
Perhaps the best thing about our vacation was the owner! Margie was friendly, helpful, and very nice. The very nicest landlady we have encountered.
Overall, we were very happy with our choice of vacation.

This is one of the most amazing houses ever! Although it is not big, there's plenty of room for everyone! The location is beautiful! The view from every room of the house has something new to offer. The front yard is very cute and has a bench for you to sit under a plam tree and flowers hanging from the rooftop. And everything in the house is decorated with such love and care! The theme of the house is palm trees and you will find a palm tree in everything from rugs to ceiling lights!
And if you're into feng shui you're in for a treat! The house is designed according to Feng Shui principles and the energy in it is very warm and welcoming, and positive!
There's no air conditioner, but none is needed! We've stayed during the summer, and were concerned at first that there's no AC but how suprised were we that it was NEVER hot in the house. So don't freak out, it's a great thing, because you'll actually get to breathe fresh ocean air daily.
Everything is thought out by Margie (the owner of the house, who is very sweet, easy going and positive) and everything that you need is there. All the appliances that work really well! They're actually brand new. There's dishes and pots and pans, microwave, dishwasher and even laundry room right in your house!
And the best thing is it's located right next to a beautiful beach. And if you're staying there, don't forget to visit the Korean Friendship Bell located about a 10 minute walk away from the house. The view from there is unbelievable!
Overall I'll give it a A+++++++++++++++++++ Would absolutely stay there again, and again!!!!

We stayed in this beach house for a week in July 2008. I have a lot of trouble sleeping and I was very pleased to say that this property was very quiet even though the houses are close together. I am also very particular about cleanliness and this property was spotless. The owner was always at hand to answer questions and make sure that we had what we needed. She takes pride in making things nice for her renters. It was a pleasure to stay here and we would stay here again and recommend it to anyone coming to the LA area.
