John and Anne are excellent hosts. The cottage is extremely clean and everything needed is provided (and more). The garden setting is divine and very hard to match. This is our second stay and we look forward to a future stay in 18 months. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Shady Brook cottage was perfect for our stay. John was very welcoming on arrival. I took our two children up to Hotham each day while my wife stayed in Harrietville and it was a beautiful cottage with incredible gardens. There were plenty of birds feeding outside the cottage and a perfect base for day trips to Hotham. Thanks John and Anne.

A much needed break. 18mths of ongoing medical issues had worn us down! In better weather, the garden would be magic. We struggled with the wood heater, as all the wood was wet & the weather was COLD.

It was an incredible time.

We really enjoyed our four nights at Shady Brook cottages. The gardens were magnificent! The cottage was clean and everything was provided to ensure our stay was enjoyable.

If we could stay longer we would. The property is perfectly set out with all the creature comforts of home. John and Ann are lovely hosts who couldn't do enough to make us comfortable during out time at their incredible property. Many thanks.

We had a lovely time at shady brook. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The garden is absolutely gorgeous, and we enjoyed watching the different types of birds that visited the garden. Definitely recommend, especially during autumn :)

Shady Brook cottage is a delightful holiday base. The cottage is clean, well appointed and has excellent comfortable bedding. Every room has delightful views of the garden. The quietness is so refreshing. Having the log fire so easily usable topped off the friendly yet unobtrusive hosts service. We loved our stay.

We found the two bedroom Shady Brook Cottage utterly enchanting and SO enjoyed our holiday there. Harrietville is beautiful, but this little piece of the village was the best bit of all: the gardens, the tranquility, the privacy and the comfort were second to none.

We had a great time over our 4 night stay, the 2 bedroom cottage with spa was very cosy and well equipped. It was lovely in the morning to wake up nestled in among the trees and sit out on the deck to watch the birds come to feed. As the night became a little chilly it was great to have the wood fire lit.The gardens are just beautiful, we loved exploring them as well as all the hidden walking tracks and the Ovens River that runs along the property. We would come back to stay again, as it is a hard place to leave. The Alpine region is an all year round destination, winter to spring and there is lots to see and do.

This is a delightful cottage set in a really beautiful garden. We thoroughly enjoyed the chance to rest and relax in such a peaceful location. Everything possible has been provided for comfort.

We stayed here for 3 nights to go up to Mt Hotham with a group of 5 adults. We thought we had booked the one bedroom cottage, but there was a miscommunication and it turned out we booked the apartment above the main house. The accommodation was nice and clean, the balcony was great and the breakfast provided each day was nice, however the apartment wasn't big enough for 5 adults (2 adults and 3 kids might be ok) and we felt like we had to be careful with noise as the people that owned the property were downstairs and you could hear them moving around. Once I realised we'd booked the apartment I checked with the owner and was assured that 5 adults would be fine, but it was a bit uncomfortable. She said she didn't mind about the noise but again we were still cautious. I post this review as I would have liked to have known this before we stayed, I would have likely tried to book somewhere else given the number of people. Everything else was excellent.

Suprised our friend for her birthday here and she absolutely loved the place! The welcome hamper was delish and the rooms were clean. There was nothing to complain about and the drive to the house was equally beautiful. Will definitely recommend and come back here in the near future.

Amazing garden we enjoyed the sounds of nature and view of the mountain right from the balcony. Very cozy cottage overall great experience.

Our second stay here was as good as the first - welcoming and friendly hosts, a clean and warm cottage with spa, wood fire (lots of wood provided) and a verandah overlooking the gorgeous garden. Such peaceful surroundings with heaps of birdlike to watch and close to the running river. A great place for relaxing or walking through bush.
