Met Ray & Ann in the garden, and from that moment on they could not do enough for us. Ray took our bags to the room and got us settled. The cottage is set in lovely grounds with walks around the grounds.
Breakfast, OMG if you go hungry it's your own fault, Ray was keen to cook things to your taste, and make sure you had everything you wanted. Ray was knowledgeable about the local area and was very helpful guiding us around.
All in all, great place, great host, great location. A very enjoyable break, will definitely stay again if heading back down the west country.
Thanks Ray & Ann

Everything about this B&B is first class. A joy to stay there.
There wasn’t a thing there I didn’t like. Accommodation, food, garden and host were perfect.

The idyllic home is nestled in the quiet village of Black Torrington, Devon. We were greeted on arrival by our hosts Ray and Anne who helped us with our luggage. The accommodation was very comfortable and immaculately clean. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds in the morning and especially enjoyed the excellent full scale English breakfast cooked for us each morning! We cannot recommend Kingsley Cottage enough.
Nothing.

Beautiful setting, the grounds of the property were like a nature reserve and the hosts couldn’t do enough for us. There were two good pubs within walking distance.

Peace and quiet, lovely location and great hosts
very narrow roads but that couldn't be helped

Wonderful and beautiful place! The hosts couldn't be more friendly and they really make you feel welcome. The little details like the fresh flowers in the room, the welcome present, the chocolates, biscuits, tea and coffee in the room (even fresh milk!!) really make a difference and makes this place extra special. The breakfast is very good and plentiful with a lot of different things to choose from. The surroundings are beautiful and we loved the fact that there was birdfood outside of our window so we were able to enjoy watching the birds eat. Ray and Anne really went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible, which we are very grateful for. We 100% recommend this place!
We loved absolutely EVERYTHING!!!

Excellent breakfast and very warm welcome from our hosts. Had a lovely tour of the property and gardens followed by a cup of tea and some cake on arrival.
Very remote had to travel to find somewhere to eat could not walk to the pub. Very minor issue

Comfortable, well appointed rooms. Warm and welcoming hosts Ray & Anne. The peace and quiet in this tranquil, rural position.
Turning onto a narrow, windy lane with poor sight lines. But if you reverse onto the parking area and open your car window to listen out for oncoming cars it’s easier.

'Old world' cottage with modern extensions and interior. Efficient 'Check-in'. Luggage quickly moved to our room by owner. Welcomed with tea and cake. Adequate storage space, wardrobe, drawers, etc. Comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. Wide variety of cereals, yoghurts, cooked breakfast items; and offers of further options.
Breakfast table was 'cluttered', though in a good way; a bit like a chess game in accomodating all required items on the table. Paths uneven. Difficult vehicle access onto road.

I struggle to find anything negative to say about this place, it was a wonderful find and we will definitely stay there again when we head to Devon. Ray & Anne were amazing hosts, very welcoming and friendly. Ray cooks the breakfast and I must say that it was one of the most substantial and tasty breakfasts we've had in a B & B - the food just kept coming and when we couldn't manage the croissants, Ray provided foil so that we could take them with us to snack on later!
Nothing was too much trouble, we had a tea & cake welcome on the first day, cases were taken up to our room and taken back to the car on departure, the room (Riverview) was beautiful, comfortable, very clean and had a Juliet balcony overlooking the river. There was a mini fridge in the room, which had a fresh pint of milk in it which was an unexpected extra.
The bird feeders outside of the balcony were constantly populated by various birds and the occasional woodpecker, which was fascinating, and there was a handy guide in the room to identify which birds had visited.
Highly recommended for a short break in the Devon countryside.
Parking could be a little tricky if other guests were parked in front, but Ray was quick to ask the other car to move.
Our bed was a little low & soft for my Husband, so he struggled a bit - it was perfectly fine for me though!

The hosts Anne and Ray where extremely kind and hospitable. Nothing was too much trouble such as asking for a fan in the morning and it waiting outside my door when I got back from a nearby trip to Bude. The breakfast that Ray made every morning was perfect, done to order and set me up for the day. The decor was very tasteful and all those little things (door hooks for coats, plenty of space for clothes, shelves for makeup etc) where provided like home from home. The place is idyllic. I slept right through every night( good for me) The place is near to beaches and nearby villages are good for local pub food and a banter with the locals. Highly recommended. I would love to stay again in the future.

Excellent breakfast and very helpful host. Offered tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival and kindly tumble dried our clothes! Tree house looks amazing.
Birds at bird feeder woke us early in the morning - got back to sleep though.

fabulous breakfast, warm and friendly hosts.
Lovely quiet location.
Would return if in the area.
Challenging wi fi signal but that's out of their control and we were notified of this prior to staying.
perhaps add a sign on the gate as it's easy to miss

Lovely riverside location, wooded grounds with an amazing tree house. We woke up to a view of a hillside covered in buttercups and birds on the feeder outside our window. A great breakfast with all we could eat.

Bright , clean , warm and comfortable.
Lovely attention to detail -eg bird feeders just outside bedroom window-encouraging a host of wild birds including woodpeckers. River running through garden -had a rare glimpse of an otter ! Ray showed us his garden and amazing treehouse he is building to become a holiday let ! Cooked a delicious breakfast which we ate by the wood burner each morning. Very helpful re surrounding area re walks and places to eat nearby .

This is a lovely place to stay, it's off the beaten track in a beautiful rural setting. When we arrived we were greeted by Chris who brought us tea and cake to a seat by the stream which runs through the garden. Beautiful room and I loved watching the birds come to the window feeder. Breakfast was enormous with loads of choice. We were visiting friends who live nearby, and will definitely be returning to Kingsley Cottage on our next trip down.
Nothing not to like.

The location of the B&B was stunning with great gardens and walks right from the door. Ray and Anne were extremely friendly and had great local knowledge suggesting a multitude of things to do. The room was very clean and tidy. The location was very peaceful and the village pub was great as well. It was such a nice place to recharge and relax for a week. Breakfast was tasty with a really good selection of cereals and fresh, warm pastries. I would recommend the B&B to anyone who wants to have a relaxing break with easy access to places like Bude and Oakhempton.

Black Torrington is an out-of-the-way spot, but with easy access to the cost (30 min drive). Kingsley Cottage is an excellent option for a quiet break, and Ray & Anne are excellent hosts. Ray rustles up an excellent breakfast and went out of his way to make our stay memorable.

The calmest, most lovely place we've been to in a while. Kind people, a beautiful house, wildlife and trees all around. Everything you'd imagine a perfect bed & breakfast to be. The Platonic ideal of a B&B, basically, the sort of place you might think only exists in the imagination. Works great as a base to explore Devon, but also just as a place to relax and be creative.
4.8
The beautiful location and friendly staff.
The breakfast was too big. I suggest a choice of excatlelly what we would like. It would save you money. 😊

Fabulous location beside the river. Lovely spacious room with great ensuite. Ray was very thorough and attentive. Greeted us with a cup of tea and cake in the garden. Explained all the details we needed for the room and getting around. Made sure we had everything that we needed. Assisted with our need for directions etc. Cooked two v different breakfasts with every attention to covid safety. Loved the bird feeders on the window and the eclectic mix of cats and the incredible treehouse project.
Can't think of anything that wasn't just lovely. Didn't want to leave!!

Everything was fantastic from Ray's breakfasts which are exceptional you could not ask for more, it was 1st class. The accomadation is everything you would wish for and the bonus of being in the country with nature right outside your bedroom window was gorgeous!.

An idyllic rural retreat, Ray and Anne were wonderful hosts, made us feel welcome from the start. Our main aim was for a relaxed break which the Kingsley Cottage B&B certainly provided. Lovely room, and a great breakfast each morning.
Nothing to dislike.
4.8
Beautiful rural location and Ray the host was very friendly and welcoming.
Breakfast was plentiful and very tasty.
The Internet reception in our room was non existent and we either had to go onto the landing or use the conservatory to make any connection
Really disappointing.
Also Television reception poor and we could not get Netflix even though it was promised.
These are minor gripes but should be addressed.

An excellent b&b, one of the best we've ever stayed at. Beautiful location, first class breakfast and very friendly hosts. We will definitely go back.
