Lovely, well-presented property in a secluded, peaceful location by the beach. Great for dog walking! Good advice from the host to bring supplies, as no shops closeby.

While the rest of the country was moaning about bad weather and high winds, we were tucked up in front of a blazing fire with Videos, a backgammon board and a good book. Who could complain.
Our accommodation was everything we wanted and more. The large garage makes for a good place for two large dogs to share.
In between the weather breaks we walked from our Whare to and up Aotea Beach to the mussel beds. Aotea offers a safe place to walk with dogs.
Highly recommend Ruru Whare, it has all the comforts of home and an unequalled view of the harbour.
The owner of the property goes out of her way to accommodate her guests

Was a great get away to the unwind and turn off and escape from the city. Would defiantly come back.

Another wonderful stay at Ruru Whare. This was our third visit. The weather was dreadful but we still managed a few wild and windswept beach walks and just enjoyed hunkering down by the fire. This is the perfect spot to get away and switch off. The property is still as clean, tidy and well-equipped as it was when we first visited nine years ago!

This property is very much cared for and everything you could wish for is supplied. Plus the location is absolutely stunning with great sea views from the bach and a short toddle to actually be walking or exercising the dog on the black sand beach.
We loved our time here and would gladly come again if we ever got the chance.

Lovely accommodation, warm, and well equipped with everything you could possibly wish for. Fantastic views and within walking distance to the beach. We took our two large dogs with us and they had a marvelous time. Section well fenced for our 4 legged friends. Fishing was marvelous and so many places to fish from. Our hostess was brilliant, and made us feel so at ease. We hope to return again.

The house is clean and tidy. All basic needs are provided for. Great bathroom and kitchen. Everything is great.
The property is a perfect place for when you need to get away and switch off from the noises of the city. The big fenced grassed ground is perfect for our dog to run around, she loves it.
Did I mention that the host, Annette, was amazing.

Ruru whare is a relaxing place to stay. It was great to sit out on the balcony enjoying a morning coffee while taking in the sights of the surrounding areas.

This is our second stay here and this visit was as enjoyable as the first - the property is perfectly designed for a couple and is located in a quite spectacular beach front location.
Annette is a wonderful hostess who cannot do enough for you and is very relaxed and friendly.
This is our favourite break location in New Zealand and we will be back for sure!

We had a very peaceful and relaxing time at Whare Ruru. Fabulous views over the inlet to sand dunes and hills from the wonderful verandah. I strolled barefoot down the grassy hill to swim at least twice a day. The house had everything we needed and was uncluttered and clean.

Has everything you need, and more. I can not fault Ruru Whare at all. Amazing location, everything provided (all you need is food and clothes). Pet friendly...... to be able to take our dog on holiday for the first time ever was so amazing. An awesome view of Aotea Harbour from the bach, private, quiet, perfect location (2
minute walk to the beach). Couldn't ask for anything more. See you again really soon :)

Our stay was perfect! Annette was amazing, and the house was beautiful. Big windows to let in light and see the view, comfortable bed, and so peaceful. The bird songs in the morning are a treat as well.

the 10 days in this wonderful cottage on an very special place we have enjoyed very much. there was no noice except from the birds.
the right place to come down and on top the cottage was very clean and with all the things you need for to make your stay phantastic.

What an absolutely superb studio and host! All you hear is birdsong and the waves lapping against the shoreline. Absolute tranquility in a remote and peaceful area. Do bring along all you want to eat and drink though - there is very little in the area in the form of a take-aways or stores and only one take-away on the way into Kawhia was open in the evening during our stay. Nothing in the nearby village was open for food during the 2 evenings we stayed.
Annette is absolutely lovely and the studio is just stunning. Way more spacious than the photo's would lead you to believe. Lovely tranquil and peaceful surrounds.
