A lovely village house which manages to combine stylishness with the homely feel of a family home.

El Tejar was a perfect place for our New Year's week break - 8 people. The house is a rustic Spanish-Moroccan style which we loved and the views are breathtaking. The excellent weather meant that even in winter we were able to have breakfast outside every day. We enjoyed beautiful walks in the surrounding mountains, trips to Seville and Ronda and family time at home with cosy log fires and dinners. I cannot recommend El Tejar enough. Guy is a wonderful owner who was on hand to answer and questions as well as greeting us with wine and stories.

The villa is wonderfully situated with exceptional views over the hills. The villa is charmingly rustic and peaceful with lots of different places to sit and enjoy the scenery and get away from each other if you want to! All 4 bedrooms have en suites which was great. Beds comfy and villa clean thanks to the lovely Paqui who comes in daily. She also made us a lovely paella one evening. The pool was clean and welcome in the exceptionally hot weather we enjoyed. Plenty to do and see roundabout. Walking, visiting Ronda, the cave drawings, the olive factory, the wineries. A happy and memorable stay.

We stayed here for 3 weeks in July/Aug and loved every minute It was also exceptionally good value for us as a family as different family members joined us for short periods over this time. Montecorto is simply the most beautiful, small town with the sound of the water flowing through it adding to its charm. The people were most welcoming and friendly. The house is perched high up at the top of the town with magnificent views across the valley. El Tejar is a very old property full of period charm and quirkiness - if you are looking for clean lines and perfection - this house is not for you - but if you are a lover of character, warmth and history you will love it. The house is equipped with everything you need for a perfect stay. Guy responds immediately to any inquiries or requests and Pacqui, the local lady who pops in daily to ensure everything is ok and to tidy a little, means that you are never far from support if needed. There are 4 ensuite doubles, (2 twins and 2 double beds) each with their own charm. There is ample storage in each room and the showers were excellent. There is a TV and DVD player (I suggest you bring a few discs- especially if you have younger children). The WiFi is excellent close to source in the kitchen dining area but less so as you move out of range. There are 100s if books to read. The pool, gardens and outdoor space around the house are exceptionally beautiful providing lots of places to sit and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. We often cooked our own meals or alternatively walked into town (5 min) or sometimes drove the 20 minutes to Ronda for more choice of restaurant. Pacqui also cooked us some lovely dishes during our stay. There are lots of levels and steps both inside the house and in town so it is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The air conditioning was provided by fans in each bedroom. These were more than adequate for the majority of our stay but we did experience some extreme heat for a few days when it was very difficult to get cool. I absolutely loved my time at El Tejar and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for peace, a beautiful, welcoming and comfortable home to enjoy. There are many walks surrounding the house that my husband enjoyed while I lay by the pool! It takes around 1 hour 40 minutes to get to from Malaga - and it is worth the drive. Thanks Helen

We went in mid July - and it was hot in Spain the week we were there - but the villa is a relief from the outside heat. There's no AC - but it's not needed. Plenty of shade and plenty of breeze. A small pool helped keep us cool as well. Small pool - but enough room for the 8 of us - and enough room around the pool to comfortably seat us all. The 8 of us stayed in 4 double rooms - each room unique - and each room really charming. All had their own loos and baths which incorporated welcome showers. Plenty of comfortable room to sit around on - inside and (more importantly) outside Kitchen was well equipped - we needed nothing - although we didn't cook in at all - only breakfast etc. There's plenty of places to eat / drink in the town Guy also sends in some help each day to do a little cleaning, and to keep the place looking tip-top. Very difficult to know where to begin in describing the virtues of this house. The architecture itself is a terrific example of the vernacular and takes wonderful advantage of the site, climbing up the mountain in levels that give every room wonderful views and allows for multiple terraces and stairs. The pool with its fountain is clean and cool, even on a very hot day. The bedrooms are ample with private bathrooms that are simple and handsome, with exposed timber and pitched roofs and arches everywhere. Paqui's cooking is excellent. What a treat to have a meal prepared for you and your friends, so that after a day out, you can relax on the terrace (after taking a swim and sharing a bottle of wine). In fact you can simply reach up into the arbor above you and snip off a clump of tasty grapes if it's August. Around the corner from the house are two fig trees for dessert! Montecorto is a sweet village, close to Ronda but in tourist season you're glad not to be too close. My merry band of friends and I had a wonderful time.

A wonderful home, with everything you need for a fantastic holiday. This is a lovely large four bedroomed house, right on the edge of Montecorto village, with all its charm. El Tejar is a fantastic place to stay and relax, we enjoyed the cool interior, and the pool for lazy afternoons.

We had a wonderful holiday in Montecorto. The entire area is stunning this time of year, and the house has a beautiful garden. The kitchen could use an update: it was always crawling with ants because the counters/cupboards are not properly sealed. Great information from the owner about the area.

Beautiful scenery, tastefully decorated and set in a quintessential Andulucian village, this was perfect to come home to after exploring the sights of Ronda, Seville and Granada. The famous white villages and the village itself were worth exploring. Pity that we were only there for a week...

We spent our first week in Montecorto in el Tejar, since Dar Hajra – the other house we wanted to stay at was already booked. This very cosy and homely place would perfectly fit a bigger family, providing comfort and privacy for everybody. The property is neat and tidy with stylish interior design. All the necessary facilities are included and extensive collection of guidebooks and maps makes it easy to plan your trips. The location is very special thanks to great mountain views and a calming sound of the nearby spring. It is a truly unique place to spend quiet, relaxing holidays in stunning natural surroundings and with numerous tourist attractions within a stone's throw. We'll definitely recommend it to our friends!

What a great place! We loved the house which was comfortable, spacious and perfectly decorated in character with this region of Spain. Everyone in our party had a great time and, in addition to appreciating El Tajar, loved the village of Montecorto and its friendly people. Pacqui, the housekeeper, couldn't have been more helpful. We all hope to return next year. Highly recommended so long as you don't try to book at the same time that we want the house! K & M, Hertfordshire.

This really was a fantastic place to stay as a group. Very clean and comfortable and beautiful to look at. We were able to get an early start to our walks as it was really convenient to the surrounding national parks. There is not a lot happening in the village but it does have a couple of bars and places to eat and a shop for supplies. We also used the option to have our evening meals cooked for us and there is a really great dining room for proper meals!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at El Tejar. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we ended up booking a second week at the sister property, Dar Hajra. If you are hoping for a quiet getaway in a quaint mountain town in the South of Spain, look no further. El Tejar is a comfortable and spacious property that includes all of the comforts of your own home. We loved having all of the comforts that we´re use to at home. The kitchen is equipped with all necessary cooking utensils, there´s a laundry room with washer and dryer, large dining area and separate sitting room with wood burning fire places in each room. There are countless books, DVD´s and a great wifi connection. After traveling for two weeks prior to arriving at El Tejar, we were so grateful for the warm welcome, tapas and wine that was waiting for us. During our stay, we enjoyed day trips to Ronda, Zahara, Grazalema, Sevilla (check out the music venue La Carboneria for an authentic Flamenco experience), Granada (we highly recommend taking the train- it´s a beautiful journey), and we even took a ferry over to Tangier Morocco. Our days were filled with adventure, but we sure enjoyed coming home to a tidy space and on some occasions a home cooked meal. Paqui, keeps the home clean and is also available to prepare delicious local cuisine. Her tortilla espanola muy rico! We love hiking, and we followed the owner Guy´s recommendations for local trails, and found his route notes very easy to follow. Don´t miss the walk of the Hidden Valley. We had a wonderful family vacation and we hope to return.

We loved El Tejar from the moment we arrived, both from the oustside and inside. We had previously stayed at the owner's other house but this time needed more space for all the family, and friends of our kids. The house is beautifully decorated and the views from the terrace just gorgeous and we loved the really private feel of the pool area. We found that having a daily visit from Francisca - she comes in to tidy for a couple of hours around midday - made the stay that much more relaxing, and our computer-obsessed son was glad to discover that the house had fast wifi and a desktop Mac computer. We too advantage of FRancica's cooking which you can order in the morning and have delivered for your evening meal - particularly recommend her homememade meatballs and the bizcocho (is that how it is spelled?) cake, which we had made for my husband's birthday. We have stayed twice now and have alreday booked for next year.

We've stayed at El Tejar on three occasions now and will be returning again later this year. The views from the house, which is tucked away in a pine forest at the top of the village, are sensational and there are several different terraces for drinking it all in. Sangria or a G&T as the sun sets over the Grazalema Natural Park are a must. We were glad to find a bottle of wine awaiting as we'd forgotten to shop in Ronda before arrival (you should because the village shops aren't open on Saturday afternoon). The best supermarket inh Ronda is called Mercadona, on the west side of the town, easy to find if you follow the owners instructions in the guest information booklet. The house is always spotless on arrival and having Francisca to help clean every morning is great. We had fun practising our Spanish with her and one night she prepared us a meal which included delicious homemade gazpacho. The equipment at the house was all in good condition and our two boys appreciated having internet access. We particulary liked sitting out on the terrace above the pool - which was where we ate all of our meals. The decor has a strong Moroccan influence and our favourite room is the suite Casablanca though it must be said the stairs up to it are very steep. It has a gorgeous view and we lay in bed one morning and watched an eagle circling above the village. Being tall we were glad to have such good mattresses - they're not only long but really comfortable, too. We reckon the village is the friendliest we've come across in Spain and although nobody seemed to speak any English we were always able to make ourselves understood. An added benefit from using the house is the opportunity to use Guy, the owner, for his extensive local knowledge of local walks and other activities. He has lived in the area for more than 20 years and has written a number of walking and guide books and there's no-one better to make your holiday enjoyable and active! And this house is excellent value: we stayed at a place in Italy that cost almost double the amount and it wasn't nearly as nice as El Tejar. Last time we stayed a nightingale was singing every night. It made us feel like we were on a second honeymoon!

We have recently returned from a break at El Tejar in the delightful village of Montecorto, outside Ronda. If you want to catch a glimpse of real Spanish village life, this is the place for you!The way of life has changed little here, slow and friendly with just a few small, local shops where people take the time to say hello. We loved to stroll down to shop for ingredients for our meals. El Tejar is a real gem - tranquil and relaxing, tucked away high above the village with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The rooms are charming - simply but stylishly furnished, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Paqui was such a help to us and prepared wonderful food - her tortillas are not to be missed! A lovely place to relax!

A fantastic location with breathtaking views accross to the mountains the first thing that greets you on opening your shutters of a morning. My favourite place to enjoy the view was from the balcony of the small living area adjacent to the first floor bedroom, preferably with a freshly brewed coffee and some fresh bread from the village - heaven. The house is perfect, terracotta tiled floors and open beamed ceilings with comfy furnishings. Nothing is pretentious or staged everything feels genuinely part of what one imagines was once a much loved home - a real home from home. The external spaces are the real star of this property. Surrounded by mature plants, shrubs and fruit trees, they are wonderfully secluded. There are enough of them to ensure your own little corner in which to chill if the mood takes you. The pool area is lovely and I must admit to having done nothing but move between the pool and a very comfortable lounger for an entire day, except for the odd foray into the house to partake of Paqui's amazing Tortilla! The terraced areas are fantastic to sit out at night, nibbling on tapas and enjoying good wine with friends whilst the smell of honeysuckle fills the air. Gorgeous. The village is authentic Spain, luckily, not held hostage to tourism, with trading hours to suit. It's possible to find all that you need food wise and the trip down to the bakers each morning is a great experience with the local housewives! The bar on the main square was hugely welcoming, be warned though, the local take on a measure of whiskey is rather large!! We would recommend Alora to eat in Zahara - delicious food and very welcoming. We also visited a couple of the local ventas, which were great value and served regional dishes - the fried Rosada (fish) was delicious. The other very special thing about El Tejar is the walking, nearby is some of the most remote, dramatic and beautiful scenery, a walk is a must. Our favourite was the Walk of the Hidden Valley - as amazing as it sounds! Paqui (the housekeeper) was very welcoming and helpful, her cooking is fantastic! The house was spotless and cleaned daily. The owner, Guy, was enthusuiastic and friendly we got the impression he really wanted us to experience the real Spain. A brilliant holiday. I cannot recommend this place enough I fell in love with it and will definitely be going back.

I've stayed at El Tejar a few times now and each time it gets better. Clean but interesting rooms, great facilities including a really good kitchen, pool and a real no-nonsense braodband connection but above all the terraces where one can sit for hours with a glass of fino watching the view as the mountains across the valley change colour and almost, it seems, shape. The village, a walk down the hill away from this eyrie, is pretty good too, small shops stocking the essentials a couple of low key and friendly bars and some lovely people, especially the old folk who can give you a real picture of what the countryside is all about. A great place to stay for walking, relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere.
