This is a lovely place with a gorgeous view. The screened lanai was particularly wonderful. It definitely isn't a place for people looking for tourist Maui, as it's out of the way (which, for us, was good). I rated "accuracy of online listing" with three stars because the listing seems to overclaim a bit about what's available (hot tub?). I'd also suggest making a few cooking basics available (salt, for example). Overall, we were very pleased.

Quaint cottage, nice quiet place for a couple to go and relax at. The fresh bananas were a wonderful surprise. John took care of anything we needed. We stayed a extra night and John put us up in the Bamboo House. Great place for a party of 6. We would stay here again if we ever get to return. Best housing prices around too. Thanks John

We had a very relaxing stay at this lovely Haiku property. Peaceful and relaxing. Enjoyed being away from the resorts but quick drive to Paia and Makwao and the beach. We liked staying in a neighborhood, petting the cats who came by to say "hi." Our kids loved staying in the screened in porch. We left our computers in the unit after check out and it was still where we left it a couple of days after we realized it was gone! Owner was very nice about our retrieving them. Only small drawback is that you must cook outside which is challenging at night and the apartment could use more lights. Small drawbacks and would stay there again!

We loved our time at John’s cottage! A quaint and quiet space beckoning the adventurous spirit. It’s a true local gem outfitted with everything you need for a great stay. John was very welcoming and provided us with helpful tips to explore the area and generous with offering beach chairs, boogie boards, etc. The screened in porch was a highlight. Lovely backyard and view. Close to Paia but far away from the crowds. We will be back!

Our stay at John’s holiday home was unparalleled. Originally renting a different property, John graciously offered us an upgrade, at the same location, which we couldn’t resist, though our initial choice was equally appealing. The location is perfect, bridging Kahului and Hana, with pristine beaches and hiking trails nearby. Local amenities are close, and John's vast recommendations cover every need. His dedicated staff ensures a flawless stay when he's not available. The property "Mountain to Ocean Views Pole House" (or search for 4499814ha ) is a Hawaiian gem. The elegant wooden structure, accented with marine touches reflecting our sailing affinity, merges seamlessly into the landscape. The glass walls, far from compromising privacy, amplify natural light and bestow endless ocean views. By night, the sky is a spectacle. Every amenity, from the indoor-outdoor furniture to the well-outfitted kitchen, exudes comfort. The house's design embraces the sea breeze, negating the need for artificial cooling. While perfect for couples, our trio felt right at home, thanks to a thoughtful additional mattress. In essence, this isn’t just a property, but an enriching experience. We unreservedly recommend it. John's dedication, the inviting community, and the home's offerings eclipse even the most luxurious hotels.

This little hut is located in a jungle-like cozy part of the island, with views of the ocean as well! It's close enough to shops, restaurants and the beach but far enough to maintain privacy and seclusion after a long day of adventure. Would highly recommend!

Bill was great to work with and very accommodating. He even brought us a vase with flowers for the table. Gets pretty warm during the day but cools off nicely at night with the aid of a fan. We left behind a portable charger when we left and Bill called to let us know and offered to mail it. Luckily my sister was still on the island and stopped to get it. It was in a perfect location and accommodation for what we need to attend a wedding.

We loved our stay at Maui Adventure Villa. This was perfect for us -- a quiet, jungle setting with ocean view, while still being drivable to nearby beaches and cute towns such as Haiku and Pa'ia. It is also nearby Twin Falls, which is at the start of the Road to Hana and has swimming holes. This would be perfect for someone who enjoys quiet nature away from the crowds and resorts and wants to experience the land of Hawaii. Loved it!

We enjoyed our stay at John’s property. It is located in a quiet neighborhood away from the resort areas, yet centrally located on Maui for easy access to Haleakala NP, the Road to Hana and the beaches of west Maui. John was welcoming and kept in touch with us during our stay to offer tips and advice about the island. The unit was well stocked with everything we needed, including all sorts of beach and snorkeling paraphernalia. Additionally there was a washer and dryer at our disposal which we really appreciated. We highly recommend staying in Evergreen Cottage.

The property was exactly as described online. Nice neighborhood to be in, about halfway between airport and start of Road to Hana. Felt like a nice central location, easy to head south and hit beaches that direction as well. It had everything we needed for our stay.

This was one of the most laid back, relaxing properties we’ve ever stayed in. While this was our first Vrbo rental, we’ve used another popular site quite a bit traveling Europe for 3 years. This studio style unit had everything we needed. The ambiance was perfect. Laying on the oversized cough on the lania, listening to the rain, reading a book was the most relaxing thing we’ve done in a few years. Perfect starting point for the road to Hana or being just outside the touristy area, this amazing place has you covered. John has a ton of local insight and so much guidance to the area if you’d like it. We will definitely be back!

We stayed in Evergreen Cottage for 3 weeks. We were looking for a comfortable base from which we could explore as much of Maui as possible & it worked amazingly well. The property is on a small banana plantation on the outskirts of the town of Ha’iku, on the Hana Highway, 25 min. from Kahului Airport. Feb. is the rainy season, but it was easy to drive into better weather and we were much happier with the quiet, beautiful setting. Nearby towns provide access to groceries and restaurants. The cottage is essentially one large room, well lit by windows, with a kitchen (containing a good-sized fridge) and a comfortable bed. Attached to this are a full private bathroom and a spacious lanai. We tended to prepare 2 simple meals there each day, while typically eating lunch out. I can’t say we spent a lot of time there because we were having fun running all over the island, but when we did we were comfortable and found the surrounding property restful and peaceful. When I say comfortable, that’s what I mean. The cottage is well appointed, clean and very charming, but you’ll have a great time if you don’t expect luxury. (Try the other units on John’s property for that.) Also, there’s direct access to a new washer and dryer. John was a fantastic host. He addressed our needs and answered our questions in advance, including allowing us to rent a new hybrid SUV from him at a competitive rate. In person, John was friendly, helpful, and solicitous without being intrusive.

John was a wonderful host - and his assistant Jeremy was there to greet us upon arrival. We made our way into the quaint cottage and it was perfect for what we needed. I do agree that the photos are outdated and some property amenities are no longer available. The fence outside with tub is no longer there, we did not see a microwave - but there was a toaster oven that worked great for what we needed. There were a few missing curtains (bathroom and kitchen) that would have been nice since more people and sometimes kids stay on the property in the other rentals as well. There were fresh towels (both for the beach and shower) and some toiletries if we needed them. I would say just make sure you are prepared for where you are staying in this rural location. With farms and fruit trees comes critters. We had ant issues in the bathroom and kitchen that John took care of right away. Some spiders and webs outside protecting the bananas, so just be cognizant of where you walk. We recommend not leaving food on the counter for sure! My spouse and I are originally from the east coast so we knew what to expect staying there. We utilized the washer and dryer to do our laundry before checking out. Everything was great and we appreciated the location, the hospitality and communication from John, and really enjoyed Paia! Would definitely stay here again.

Wow wow wow! My family and I LOVED our stay at John's property in upcountry. My husband, 4yo and I arrived on Maui a few days before our extended family so we decided to try a different part of the island before traveling to Lahaina for the remainder of the week. John's property did not disappoint! It was so quiet, quaint, and beautiful. We did just as John suggested and stopped at Costco before traveling to the house. With supplies in hand we made the quick 30 min or so drive from the airport to the property. The views along the way are spectacular! The north shore waves are unlike other parts of the island and there are cute stops along the road as you are basically starting the Road to Hana as you are en route to the property. Upon arrival we were greeted by the property manager, Jeremy. Jeremy was also wonderful and very accommodating. We had fresh flowers and bananas waiting for us as well as bird songs, geckos, and glimpses of the ocean from the amazing screened-in porch. In fact, we let our 4yo stay in the bed and my husband and I took over the porch area. There were amazing thunderstorms rolling over the ocean and beautiful clear days during our stay. I won't give away all the amazing stops that await your arrival, but do not miss out on traveling around the island. In fact, we loved upcountry so much that we went back just a couple of days later to show our family our favorite spots and explore even more. Honestly, this experience and stay made our the entire trip. You can stay at resorts anywhere in the world, but this place is truly a hidden gem. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience and memories that my family and I will cherish forever.

This is a beautiful little get away on a gorgeous property. It's surrounded by rolling grassy hills and has a far off ocean view. It's only about a 15 minute drive to my favorite town in Maui, Paia. There is a natural grocery store in Paia that has everything you need, and also wonderful restaurants and cute shops. We had our 15 month old daughter with us and she loved the screened in porch, and they even provided us with a travel crib for her and had milk waiting upon our arrival, which made our trip very convenient. This place is everything you need and nothing you don't. It's simple, clean, comfortable and peaceful. We will definitely stay here again and again any chance we get!

We had some people sleeping in the screened in porch (as well as the main bed) and it was wonderful. John helped us put an extra bed out there and was very helpful if we needed anything. The ambiance of the whole place is very peaceful.

We rented one of John’s Cottages in Haiku and it was so peaceful. Lots of green plants, flowers, and silence except for nature sounds. John even invited us down for coffee and fresh bananas off the tree. His place is amazing. Thank you John for sharing your place with us!!

We had a wonderful time on Maui and staying in the Evergreen Cottage @Maui Adventure Villa was a big part of that. It is so peaceful and “off the beaten path” but not so far to be an inconvenience. We were still able to shop easily when needed and were centrally located to Haleakala National Park, Hana area, and the area beaches. The birds songs each morning were beautiful. Coffee on the lanai was our morning ritual. John is a great host! He responsive and has attention to detail. The apple bananas from the trees on the property were an added bonus. We highly recommend the Evergreen Cottage.

We really enjoyed the place, especially the large, screened in porch. Peaceful and quiet and loved the fresh bananas and avocados offered by John, our host. A little rustic compared to the west side resorts but so nice to stay in a real neighborhood. Conveniently located to both the ocean and upcountry adventures. Some great restaurants in the nearby towns. Would stay again.

We loved this villa. The large lanai was so comfortable and breezy. Although it is rustic, it is very well appointed and had everything we needed. The location is great for driving the Road to Hana and gave us more time to explore. John was the most awesome host and even brought us a bunch of fresh avocados that we used for avocado toast. He was very accommodating and friendly. I would 100% recommend his place. We really enjoyed it!
